Wouldn't be surprised if Greene washed his hands of the orga-ni-zation entirely after Dean **** all over him last offseason.

It was then I knew all Dean's rhetoric was just that, rhetoric. It was completely hollow and the Kings needed to move on from him. He was using the same terrible decision making that got him fired. Lucic faded down the stretch and was a ghost in the playoffs. All this talk of getting younger, getting faster, and getting cheaper, but then he scrambles to sign a nearly 30 year old player that was slow and would cost a fortune (and already cost a lot). Lucic was average at best for the Oilers in the playoffs.

It was a total bush league series of events that showed lack of preparation, lack of clarity, and lack of growth that everyone harped about. He was scrambling and had no plan. In a desperate and pathetic attempt to salvage negotiations with Lucic, the Kings **** all over one of their best leaders and a culture changers. I didn't like it at all and it still pisses me off. Greene, regardless of his last few seasons, played was such an integral part in getting the Kings back to relevancy (and I'm hesitant to say back because the Kings have been mostly irrelevant for their entire history). Then they decide to keep him after Lucic signs with Edmonton. Total amateur hour.

I don't know what Greene would have gotten on the open market because GMs are crazy and he did have a bit of pedigree. I'm sure he could have gotten the same if not more from a bottom dweller.

Despite all the complaining, Matt Greene has been missed in the lineup.

The Kings have failed to replace the Net Clearing/Leadership/Toughness/Good PKer, Matt Greene did provide.

Shoot, I miss Jarret Stoll. Even broken down Jarret Stoll was still a damn good 4 line Center.

How infuriating was it to watch nightly, opposing forwards basically living in front of Kings Goalies. It would have been nice to see them punished at least a couple times by Greene.

Which is why I don't think people should sleep on MacDermid. He had a long look in camp last season and he's out of waiver exemption this season. Don't think he's a lock by any stretch but I wouldn't be shocked to see him get his first NHL game when we play Calgary the first time.

I'm just wondering if Blake isn't talking to McPhee to see if he would be interested in selecting a defenseman in the expansion draft and then flipping one to the Kings afterwards.

Obviously, some clubs will have tough decisions regarding exposing players on the back end. Why not ask McPhee if player A,B,C or D is exposed, select them and flip them to LA in a side deal post expansion draft.

And maybe this would be predicated on LA moving out AMart or Muzzin prior to the lists being submitted. This way if you move out one of your top 4, there is still an opportunity to take some of the sting away by picking up another player that you could potentially slide into the vacated spot.

Depending on how final protect/exposed lists are worked out I wouldn't object to potentially acquiring a defenseman like one of the Islanders guys (Pulock, De Haan, Hickey), or others such as Kevan Miller, Claesson, Brenden Dillon, Pysyk.

Very interesting stuff ahead in the next week. Gives me a reason to tune into the NHL Awards show.

Doughty: Fame makes UFAs avoid Toronto

We would all want to play here," Doughty said of players from the Southern Ontario region, "especially with the team, the way they're getting better and stuff like that, but I think it always comes down to how hard it would be to live in a city being that big of a celebrity. I'm spoiled in L.A. where I walk anywhere I want and not one person's going to recognize me.

"If, say I did for some reason play for the Leafs, I don't know if I could get used to that or not. I think that's the problem, why guys don't sign here."

https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/kings

Cap Friendly now reflects the buyout of Greene, though I don't why it has three years instead of two.

Now shows them with $6.983M in cap space (assuming the cap is flat).

That's before swapping Muzzin for either Kane or Drouin, correct? :naughty:

And it's also before paying Vegas our 2017 2nd and 2018 1st to take Brown off our hands, yes? :naughty::naughty:

LoL, Tavares, here we come!!!! :yo::yo::yo:

We couldn't beat that Drouin deal?

It simply proves Tampa wasn't looking for a 28 year old Defender.

Blake was probably not willing to give up 1st/2nd round picks.

Folks want Blake to trade Muzzin coming off a career worst year(That does effect his value).

It probably would have taken a package of LaDue+1st/2nd round picks to get Drouin.

Your LA Kings:

Limited roster assets to trade if you are concerned with winning now.
Shallow prospect pool.
Can't trade high draft picks or top prospects because of said shallow pool.

This equals success?

It really seems to me that, since they are in win now mode, they won't trade Muzzin or Martinez and they'll back up the truck--as much as they can--for Oshie. They want to be younger and will be by having Kempe/Brodz and maybe others on the opening night roster but it won't be due to trade.

This shouldn't suprise anyone though.

With handing Kopitar 10M Cap hit, other Toxic contracts (Brown/Gabo) Poor Drafting, trading picks(causing poor drafting).

The Time to get young and revamp the roster will be when Doughty leaves for UFA.

This bed was made when they signed Quick. Probably even before that with trading for Richards. We live in a finite reality. You can't do everything.

But management is saying younger and faster, no?

Are we reverting back to the Liewieke days of lawyer speak? I mean, they will be younger and faster by just having Kempe and other young players in the lineup to start the season so they wouldn't be lying, but they also aren't contending.

Because they would be so excited, right?

I'd have no problem with that deal whatsoever. I hope whoever they draft winds up as good as Drouin.

One thing the Kings sorely lack though is Blue chip prospects to even trade. That requires keeping your picks, and actually selecting top flight talent.

You would agree with that, wouldn't you ?

People should have known that is what Lombardi meant. He tied his own hands.

The Roster last season, was the reality.

Wouldn't consider Quick's contract a problem.

Richards buyout debacle was a problem.

Trading for Richards was an excellent move.

Ladue + #11 likely doesn't land you Sergachev yet alone Drouin where a 2nd was further added.

I would agree.

Sergachev is a top flight Blue Chip prospect. Sergachev is 19 years old already has NHL size+ High Hockey IQ. He is going to be a good one.
