Just curious, is Carter available???
If so, what do the Kings need???
Thornton solves 3 problems with the Kings. He makes it possible to move Carter to top line winger fixing one gaping hole on Kopitar's wing. The other wing will have to be filled by Brown or Gaborik by default. Thornton also gives the Kings depth down the middle with Kopitar, Thornton and Carter available to be moved back to center in case of injury to Kopitar or Thornton. And Joe's ability to distribute the puck is better than Carter, which isn't a knock on Carter, the guy brought his A game every night last season and deserves to be on the top line. I can see the Kings giving Joe 2 year, 10 million. This is the salary cap era, you cannot just point to a player and say we want that guy at that amount-you have to make the best of the current situation. The Kings cannot be caught without a chair when the music stops like they were last summer.

If you’re Detroit, Los Angeles, Montreal, San Jose, Tampa Bay or Toronto (although I’m not sure it can actually work there anymore), aren’t you waiting to see where this is going?
I am not advocating signing Thornton, but if it did come to pass, Carter might be more effective on Thornton's wing. Thornton can dish it, and Carter can shoot it.
Is he ever going to come back to NA? He went back to Europe after 2 years in juniors.

Listening to Caps fans talk about Alzner will make you think twice about wanting to sign him. By the sound of it, his next contract will be ending in a buyout.
What about trading Martinez for Tatar/Nyquist plus signing Alzner and Yakupov.
Tatar--Kopitar--Yakupov
Pearson--Carter--Toffoli
Brown--Kempe--Brodz
Clifford--Dowd--Lewis
Muzzin--Doughty
Alzner--LaDue
Forbort--Gravel
Quick

Yak no and you don't throw away Martinez for Tatar..We need a Drouin young type fwd.

It's not throwing away Martinez. LA would be getting back a 26 year old winger to play in the Top6. LA can't afford to trade for a Drouin type fwd. Yakupov would be that style of talent and coming in for free at a low cost controlled price.

I don't think you've seen Yakupov play recently. He is not the player you are describing or believe him to be.
https://www.russianmachineneverbrea...ed-shots-karl-alzner-can-no-longer-open-jars/Caps defenseman Karl Alzner shared some insight into his life that is both humorous and sad. After a 14-year hockey career, the 28-year-old defenseman is unable to open jars.
On blocking shots:
“The ones that get you inside the knee usually don’t feel good because you can’t really do a whole lot,†Alzner said. “They just send that shooting pain down your leg and you start hobbling around a little bit. Those ones suck.â€Â
“Sometimes where you get hit right in the hand, we have gloves on, but they only protect you a little bit,†Alzner continued. “You get them right in the hand, it’s pretty easy to break something. It’s kind of embarrassing, but my wife (Mandy) is the one who opens up all the jars in our house because my hands have been broken so many times from the shots. I’ve got pretty weak hands now.â€Â
Alzner concluded that getting hit inside or outside the knee can cause a “dead leg feeling†which, in his words, “suck.†Meanwhile, a puck striking the hand can cause “long term†damage.
Alzner has blocked a total of 1,100 shots during his 574-game NHL career.
