any deal with the leafs would have to include lingren coming back

Liljegren?

Yes, he's RHD. A deal would have to have some of their significant cap coming back as well.

Let's talk dev camp. Should make a thread for it, but I don't want to start it, as the
initial post should have info and times and I don't know that stuff.

Interested to hear how the D compare:

How good are Matt Roy and Reddekopp? And of course hope the new draftees are there. Of course, lots of drills and hard to know how they compare in games.

I hope Eyssimont makes it. Not sure being that he's collegiate and they must pay their way, right?

I don't see it that way. The difference is Lombardi was going off of Taylors scouts [ Al Murray, the man who found a way to screw up the 2003 draft.], not his. Blake has been in the org and around these scouts for years and knew what their process was.

There is no difference except that Blake was the GM of the AHL team whereas Dean was a pro scout for Philly. Blake himself said he has sat in on scouting meetings in the last month which is something he didn't really do much of prior to being GM.

The bolded is important as Blake was going off of Lombardi's scouts. Says he deferred to them much like Lombardi said he deferred to Murray and his team.

Jeff Carter + 2nd rounder for Jesse Puljujarvi + Timothy Liljegren ???? cap space shouldn't be an issue for Edm even with McJebus and Leon due an extension... their top 4 Defense is locked up and RNH seems like he's on the way out.... Pretty sure its enough on our side, so what else would have to go to Edm??

Liljegren would have to go to EDM before any of this lol.

I would look to Nashville as the ideal trading partner for any deal involving Carter. Young goalie already backing up in the NHL and some other good young forwards there.

Former Kings prospect Tomas Hyka now a member of the Golden Knights organization. Always wondered why he wasn't higher on the Kings radar after Philly was so after him.

I've never been one to worried about our teams ability to produce both Goaltender and defensemen, I do question the promotion of forwards since DL was so adamant about building from the Goalie out that he made a few mistakes.... Vilardi and JAD are great picks but we would need 2-3 more draft just like this to create the depth we truly need to be competitive, hence I would rather trade Jeff Carter for someone like Puljujarvi + a 1st rounder... especially considering next years draft class will have some of the best Dman depth we've seen since the 2008 draft...

You have to consider what the other team in the trade needs as well. Why does Edmonton need Jeff Carter?

Can anyone afford Doughty if the number is $12 M? What teams would he want to play for? What team might be desperate enough to sell the farm to get him. If the Kings turn things around enough this year he may well want to stay in LA. Pay him the $10 M and trade Kopitar instead.

Is he ever going to come back to NA? He went back to Europe after 2 years in juniors.

JC would provide added experience, leadership and championship pedigree to help take the next step toward cup contention and is on an affordable contract... it also gives them the flexibility to move RNH and his $6 per for more depth...

Lucic - McDavid - Carter
Maroon - Draisaitl - whatever they acquire for RNH
Pouliot - Strome - Kassian

Not saying they need JC, but you can see where having him in the lineup makes them a much better team than with Puljujarvi...

Lebrun and Rosen just tweeted how Kings are likely talking to Thorntons camp. I would think if he doesn't sign with the Sharks, the Kings would have to be high on his list of other options.

If he signs and the kids (Amadio, Vilardi & JAD) all take the expected next step in their development then JC is either moving to the wing or moving for future pieces... Just a feeling, but it would make a move like that easier.....
Kopitar
Carter
Thornton
Lewis

thats really good/great depth at Center... You think Jumbo settles for a 2year/$7-$8 million deal??? oh and of course he'd have to ask ESPN to blur out his image from the body issue :shakehead

Pearson - Kopitar - Toffoli

Brown - Thornton - Carter

Kempe - Dowd - Brodzinski

Andreoff - Lewis - Nolan

I would say thats an improvement from last season.... Really like the 3rd line in this case although i think Amadio bumps off Down before mid season...

hes a great player and phenomenal passer but if this org is trying to transition to a faster paced style of hockey its not a good move, Id rather Blake spend that $ elsewhere. Jumbo is old and slow and is coming off a pretty serious knee injury

Brown - Thornton - Carter... would be a pretty darn good line, has speed, toughness, defensive ability, and scoring punch.

IF Thornton signs in LA, we all know the Kings will win the Cup. That's just how the universe works. After all those years getting nothing done in SJ, he'll hoist it in LA. Take it to the bank!

His preference is to stay in San Jose but I guess that depends on the term, he want 3 yrs. And from what I've read/heard the last few days, there are a lot of teams talking to Thorton's camp (and why wouldn't there be) including the penguins.

also Marleau is getting a lot of interest. If they're going to sign one of the 2, it will be Big Joe I think

also worth noting that both players are turning 38 and

http://www.csnbayarea.com/sharks/thornton-marleau-now-permitted-speak-other-teams

There is an added risk to any team that signs a player over the age of 35, as it would be on the hook for the entire salary cap hit regardless of whether that player is active (unless that player is on long-term injured reserve).

Thornton on a two year, high cap hit contract is perfect for this team. When healthy, he is a game changing center, as we saw in the 2015 playoffs. He instantly makes us competitors, and for a two year contract, it does not jeopardize our future.

Also, with Thornton in the 2C role for two years, it gives our prospects time to develop and crack the NHL roster by the time his contract expires. Further, during those two years, we can continue to draft players with our first and second round picks instead of trading them for rentals.
