Not only do hockey players not represent most competitive athletes, but participants in team sports don’t either.

Maybe there is a difference between how athletes competing in individual sports view these things compared to team sports. A silver medal is a mark of achievement. Yes, it’s a mark of the time you lost too. Thats why it’s not a gold medal. It’s still damn good.

cool story thanks.

Competitive team sports means you lost when you get a silver. Not one person I know is happy about that, not one. You want to argue individual sports, yell at a cloud, that's not the argument.

All im saying is nobody brags about the number of 'prince of whales' trophies they win in their career. 2nd place trophies are garbage. Its wrong to parade a participation trophy around like you won something. In hockey, if youre not first, youre last. Good for lias i want that fire on my time. I wish rick nash had his fire.

Hey, our Rangers lost to the Kings a few seasons ago in the Finals.

Maybe we should have held a runner-up parade for their glorious almost-victory.

We should enforce the NHL to come out with micro cup for second place. A cute lil cup, with our players initials on it.

Or second place Rings.

Maybe put that ring in the rafters of msg the way people are talking about the significance of 2nd place.
In all serious. Eff that i want first place and nothing less. Gold or the cup or bust. Good for lias. Not worth his time to parade second place. As a player, silver is worthless to me.

I’m pretty sure there’s already a banner in the rafters for our 2nd place finish.

The only instance where a team and its players should all be proud of a second place finish would be the Cleveland Browns  Other than that, not upset at Lias for throwing the medal into the crowd. If he doesn't want it, who cares? Who cares if someone is proud of their second place finish? Society has become so bad about telling individuals how they should feel and why they are wrong for feeling differently. It is the immovable object vs. the unstoppable force. Preaching individualism while shunning those whose individuality doesn't match what the collective feels individuality should be.

I see this as a kid who is an extreme competitor and doesn't give a shit about second place. With how the Rangers have looked at times this year, I think we can use more players like Lias. Not less. If he is unfortunate enough to get another consolation prize/medal, I hope next time he takes his stick and rockets it into the boards with a slap shot. You know, really rustle some jimmies.

On a somewhat different note.....I get why the Rangers felt the need for Lias to start the season there, not making the team. But, at this point hasn't he earned at least a cup of coffee with the big club? Aren't our Rangers in need of a little something different as we are struggling a bit? The time may be right for plugging some more youth in, while seriously thinking about moving some others. Yeah......we HAVE TO follow through with that "on the fly" changing of the guards. We will still have a chance to get in the PO's while moving a few. I'd like to see Lias and even maybe another playing well. Btw, Lettieri is looking good, he plays a FAST game, very shifty with the puck and battles.

Someone can correct me but wouldn't we burn a year off his ELC? Doesn't seem worth it.

The other point---didn't he play the last two WJC games with a separated shoulder?

Yes and yes.

When Lias didn't make the team out of camp, they sent him back to Sweden so he could recover a bit from the absolutely grueling travel schedule he'd been on. In that context, it makes a lot of sense as to why his scoring suddenly skyrocketed after a break in the SEL season. Also, I believe it was the last 3 games (Slovakia, US, Canada)

Wonder how NYR feel about Sweden playing him and likely making his injury worse.
Probably not totally thrilled, but you send the guy for the experience and it's a potential risk. You also know those coaches will play your kids in big games even if they're banged up. I don't think this injury is a big deal, hopefully it doesn't linger. If I'm NYR I don't even mind that he now gets a three week break essentially as the kid could probably use some time off after all the travel he did in 2017. As long as he heals up it's all good.

Yeah, pretty much my feeling. If it doesn't make him miss a ton of SHL time and it doesn't leave lingering effects, it's not a big deal.

If he were a player of any other team most of you would condemn his stupid behavior. Whether you like it or not it made him look like a whinny bitch and the Rangers stupid for not punishing him for it. Now if another Ranger wants to act like a prima donna they cant say anything.
