More and more I am hoping Owen Tippett is there at 11th.

I think Tippett is the best pure shooter in this draft.

Would be shocked at all if Liljegren or Tippett drop and would be very happy with either one of the two. I agree that Foote is pretty much Forbort and we know how people feel about that pick. Solid player and will make it sooner than Forbort, but he isn't going to be providing or doing much offensively. Don't let the numbers fool you look at the team he played on. Minor league #'s are incredibly deceiving.

I'm still shocked how Liljegren has dropped. Reminds me of Chychrun/Fowler/etc guys who should be top picks and dropped to the teens. Over analysis with the difference Liljegren had to rebound from Mono, which anyone who knows more about takes a long time to fully recover from. With Pettersson almost assuredly gone by #11 my top possible guys are Liljegren, Necas, Tippett, and Suzuki. One of the four is likely to be there.

Something i've noticed over the years, and I don't know if this has been a Kings thing or if it happens league-wide, but Mike Futa and Co. seem to go back to the same Jr organizations repeatedly. For example:

Seattle: Bud Holloway -> Thomas Hickey
Regina: Rowat -> Teubert -> Weal -> Wagner
Owen Sound: Lewis -> Simmonds -> Kolomatis
Barrie Colts: Clifford -> Pearson
Ottawa 67's: Toffoli -> Middleton
Brandon Wheat Kings: Schenn -> Clague

Among others.

Obviously, many of these guys didn't play together, but some did. The point is, I wonder if a guy who was drafted by the Kings in the last 2 or 3 years who happens to be a teammate of a Top 15-20 prospect winds up being the choice. For example, Owen Tippett (Jacob Moverare) or Nick Suzuki (Matt Schmalz).

The Futa/Owen Sound connection makes sense, albeit Futa was hired after Lewis was drafted plus Lewis was playing in the USHL during his draft year.

Some junior organizations are better than others. Teams like London have more resources to run better programs than most (ie, Flint last season). NHL teams might feel more comfortable with certain junior teams developing guys post-draft. Dean Lombardi made those comments disparaging Michigan's track record of developing players.

Doug Wilson played for the Ottawa 67s when he was in juniors. When he first took over as San Jose GM, the guy who coached him in Ottawa was still there 20+ years later. There was a stretch from 2005-08 where they drafted five guys from Ottawa. Maybe a similar thing with Steve Yzerman and his junior team in Peterborough.

And I suppose it's not unusual to be scouting one player and being impressed by a teammate. With the Devils, the story goes that they were watching Brendan Morrison after he had already been drafted. And Lou Lamoriello was impressed by an undrafted teammate named John Madden who they eventually signed.

There is a lot of turnover in junior coaching ranks, not as much with college programs because most college coaches are not looking for pro jobs.

Look at the blue blood hockey programs. Jack Parker was at BU for 40 years, Jerry York is entering his 24th season at BC, Red Berenson spent 33 years at UM, Ron Mason spent 22 years at MSU, Don Lucia entering his 18th season at Minnesota.

Owen Sound for example has had four different coaches since Futa left to join the Kings in 2006.

I might be biased, and it's one of the reasons I am hoping for Tulvanen, not only is he the type of natural finisher the Kings desperately need, he is going to be in great hands playing under Jerry York.

Lou and the Devils scouts were always frequent visitors to Ann Arbor.

And speaking of Madden, Berenson told him he didn't think he would be an NHL player. Red has always said that Madden was his biggest miss on player evaluation.

Dowd, Gravel and Brodzinski all came from the St. Cloud State program as well.

Yes, but don't forget Mikey Eyssimont, drafted last year by the Kings. Was top scorer there last year and probably one of the Kings top 10 prospects right now...flying under the radar. Top skill guy.

It's not out of the realm that the Kings take St Cloud St center, Ryan Poehling at #11.
He will be top 20 selection and 1 or 2 lists, puts him in top 10. 3 goals and 2 assists in 7 games
for Team USA at U18 WJC. Not bad showing for a 17 year old. (turned 18 in January)
AND 4 goals 2 assists in 4 games at the Ivan Hlinka. Pretty impressive.
He may be a 6'4" 210 powerful center in 3 years.

Aside from the obvious Michigan concerns, I do like that this organization looks heavily at college players. Some orgs shy away from it. Didn't realize Tolvanen was looking that way, can definitely do worse than York!

2017 NHL Mock Draft: No deficiencies in Nolan Patrick’s game

Sam Cosentino's mock draft pre Vegas trades.

I have an OHL bias since I see these kids come through town and get an up close look at them so Tippett would be my pick. He is such a smooth skater, good puck smarts too.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/2017-nhl-mock-draft-no-deficiencies-nolan-patricks-game/

would take Liljegren or Middelstadt before Tippett if the draft mirrored his mock draft...

At this point I'm favoring these 3 in this exact order
Timothy Liljegren
Ryan Poehling
Nick Suzuki
