I wouldn't be surprised if Blake dropped back to get an extra pick but I can only wish for a first-rounder to get excited about. Though, I'm glad to finally have a first-round pick, period.

>>>Kings GM Rob Blake didn't rule out moving out (up or down) of 11th pick in tomorrow night but added "that scenario hasn't presented itself" <<<<

I think they will have someone that they ranked between 8-10 fall to them and
they will grab them.

watch what happens - the Kings take a Tolvanen, Necas, Rasmussen, Poehling or Lias Andersson and everyone be pissed that they passed on a Suzuki or ?

I can see it happening. And they may actually end up being the right pick, 3 years
later. You just do not know. I trust Yannetti, Futa and staff for the most part. Ultimately, it is up to the draftee to take their game and physical / mental maturity to the next level.

That being said, GO KINGS!!

No reason to get upset unless you see another monumental error like passing on Tarasenko, or leaping for another Hickey.

Despite Giroux going after Bernier and Lewis, those selections I don't find to be as big of misses, simply because those two players were selected right about where they were expected to go.

What's more upsetting was reading Al Murray relay the info that he was prepared to select Milan Lucic in the 2nd round, until Dean Lombardi made him go with a defenseman. That defenseman? Joey Ryan! ****ing Dean and his hard on for defensemen.

Given what Blake has said, I trust that the current staff has a mandate to not pass on high end talent. I can't see them going with a project or someone with limited upside at 11.

True.

Yes. Joey Ryan??? I mean if they really thought he may be something special, he probably would have been available the next round.

I recall Teubert and was hoping for Karlsson. Could have had Doughty, Karlsson and Voynov all that day and set for the next decade on D. (except for Voynov's actions)

That was the draft that switched the way Dmen play and paved the way for the new puck movers. Guys like Doughty ,EK, and the like were the future, while players like Teubert were the past. Nobody could really see him being as big of a bust as he was when drafted.

Looking at a bunch of mock drafts, I see the 10-20 guys going anywhere to everyone. Meaning that no one can agree who is better than who. Would not be upset if the Kings drop a few spots, if no 4-8 guys have been bypassed. If it is a crap shoot for the middle 10, picking up another pick can't hurt

i think picks 10-20 could end up better collectively than 1-10. it's a weird year

In the past, when we have not adhered to our philosophy, and not adhered to our procedures, we’ve had disastrous results. When we’ve tried to chase a defenseman here, or toughness with this pick, or size here, it just doesn’t work out.

Sure sounds like Dean Lombardi if you look at the track record. Funny how Yannetti admits to something I vehemently argued against many posters on here. "Disastrous results." That's a guy who's been with the organization for many years saying it.

Kings probably knew pretty quickly that Teubert was never going to even be an NHL'er. Said it at the time it happened, a 1st round pick ending up in the ECHL is basically a death sentence to that player's career.

Crazy to think what-if, a team with Doughty, Karlsson, Kopitar and Quick could have seriously run off 4-5 Cup's before salary cap restrictions probably would have set in.

As for tomorrow, hoping for Tolvanen or Tippett. Need guys who can finish.

Yet they kept doing it...

Teubert was drafted in 2008!!! They didn't learn? But to be fair, you can't make a terrible pick if you don't have a pick!

This is the point of contention, though.

You argued that they could not identify skill, and focused more on character. That's different than deviating from the philosophy to fill a need.

Must-read interview for me. Yannetti's probably the most interesting interview in the organization.

There is a reason why we’ve had success in the third, fourth and fifth rounds and there is a reason those players look similar. When you’re picking later your picks are going to be more homogenized. If you look at our first round picks, Thomas Hickey is much different than Brayden Schenn, who is different than Derek Forbort who is different than Drew Doughty. When you get to the 29th and 30th pick, you see a lot more similarity between Adrian Kempe and Tanner Pearson. They’re more similar in style and attributions.

Good stuff on Martinez as well.

With that interview and Gann's Blake coverage, it's a good start to Draft Day. Here's to finding a Toffoli and a Benn today.

I want......
Timothy Liljegren
or we trade down and do our best to acquire both Ryan Poehling and Jason Robertson

We could use help in all positions so I'll probably be pretty satisfied with whoever we pick. The players that I want the most in no particular order would be Pettersson, Glass, Tolvanen, Suzuki, Liljegren, Necas. I'll throw Kostin in there as I heard he wants to play in the NHL or AHL in his first year which I like. The only players I really don't want would be Foote or Rasmussen. I just don't see much upside between those two to justify picking them at 11. I'm also not a fan of Tippett. He's an excellent skater with an excellent shot, but sometimes his decision making is lacking. If we pick him at 11 I'll be fine with it, but he's not my preferred choice.
