Just curious but does anyone really think this team will change must from last season???

5 extra goals scored and we're in the POs ...

I see the 70s line with 2-30 goal scorers JC, TT and TP at 20, Kopi should rebound and hit that 20/65-70 mark, Brownie looks like he'll be a 40pt scorer, while Dowd looks like he should easily hit the 30pt mark..

if the team scored at their career averages, they'd have been in the playoffs. I do think the system should change (which will come with the next coach), and a few players should be traded/let go, but other than that this roster can compete. sprinkle in some youth and they're good to go

I guess that also depends on who we can acquire by dealing on of our defensemen because thats the only way we could afford a TJ Oshie.... Too many variables at the moment to really know anything, what could Muzzin or Martinez realistically attract ???

Or we can buy out Gaborik, lose Lewis's $2MM cap hit via Vegas or trade, or somehow unload Clifford. There are some options available to open up cap space.

I too, however, would be interested to see who we could potentially get in a trade for Muzzin or Martinez. But if we can get a top 6 via UFA, I would prefer to keep both Muzzin and Martinez, or swap one of them in a trade for a right handed defenseman (preferably someone on his ELC).

I know you keep promoting or hoping that we lose Lewis, but that is going to screw this team big time. The Kings seriously lack another speedy guy like Lewis who can step in and play any forward position on just about any line. I'd buy out Gaborik AND trade Clifford before moving Lewis.

I'd love to keep Lewis but Vegas seems like the perfect fit. I don't know why they would take Dowd or McNabb due to their contract situations.

Well theres plenty of nuclear options like buyout Gaborik or Brown but that would hit us over the next few seasons which In my opinion is a no go....

1- Trade Clifford for anything.... and if we can't get a return do an Iginla type compensation deal

2- Roll with Gaborik because his cap hit would be too much when you also add in MR... a bounce back from injury would be nice..

3- If we are losing Lewis(which would hurt)..then why not try and trade Lewis, Clifford and McNabb for say a 2nd rounder and a 6th??? Thats $5.3 million right there...

4- "IF" we do the above we could realistically go after a TJ Oshie or even two vets like JDub and say Ryan Miller?? lots of possibilities with an extra $5+ million....

Brown - Kopitar - Toffoli
Pearson - Carter - Gaborik
Kempe - Brodzinski - Williams
Andreoff - Dowd - Nolan

Forbort - Doughty
Muzzin - LaDue
Gravel - Martinez

Quick
Miller

1- 1st rounder, 2-2nd rounder, 1-3rd rounder, 1-4th rounder, 2-5th rounders, 2-6th rounders, 1-7th rounder

Trade up for the #2 pick and grab hischier

Kings current status...

There are lots of things the Kings can do, but McNabb probably shouldn't be included in any trade right now. Teams are required to expose at least one defense, so if McNabb is gone, that means Forbort. The team would free up $5.3M, but would have to add another D to play with Doughty (Forbort would certainly be taken over Dowd). Someone decent would eat up most of that money, and a #7 would have to be found as well.

FH, the deal I'm proposing is to LV.... a preemptive strike since they're likely to target Lewis so why not sweeten the pot by including both BM and KC while we gain what could be either more organizational depth or trade chips ...

Vegas already has to take 30 players, too many for their opening day roster. Picking up multiple NHL players in a single transaction makes no sense, 7 of their picks already won't be on their opening day roster. If Vegas makes moves, it's going to be to get more picks, not trade them away.

I would choose Shore, over Dowd and McNabb. Dowd is 27 and Shore is 24.
McNabb - I think Vegas will find 6 better defensemen than him. Shore is
a very good defensive center and his offense picked up at the end of the
season. I believe without DS here, Nick could be #3 center and score
upwards of 30 points.

His 20 goals is 38 games in has last AHL season shows he can score goals.
Would have been around 40 for a full season there. Better than Pearson's
and Brodzinski's numbers and almost Toffoli-like there. Not saying he'll
ever be an offensive player in the NHL, just saying we have not seen his best yet.
That said, I hope Vegas takes McNabb.

They will take the best players they can get and put them up for auction if they can't keep them. A lot of teams will be losing a D man so the market should be quite liquid after the draft.

Although Dowd is older, he has the higher upside especially on the offensive end where he tallied 22 points and will likely approach that 35-40 point plateau after getting his whiskers get this season.

I hope so. I like Dowd. He only had 2 goals since December 22 though. I think several
players will be better, without Sutter screwing the lines and benching young players after they make a mistake.

This is the draft thread and I should not have started the expansion dialog. Back to the entry draft. Hope the Kings can get in the top 3!

I really like Dowd, but not sure his offensive game will be enough to overcome his extremely weak defensive game.

As much as Shore is a black hole of excitement, he's a more valuable player at this point.

Could be some awkward camera cuts to the audience.

Mmm, I could see an interview with a high profile vet Vegas has picked being part of the show. It's very likely Vegas will notify some if not all of the players they have picked in the expansion draft prior to the award show.

Shore is also younger, and coming off a very good season for a 4th line player.

Shore also ended the season right at 50% of his draws won.

Shore also had a little production spike at the end of the season. we'll have to see if it was more like ANdreoff's spike last year, or if it's a sign of things to come. It WAS shocking that he didn't get more points by osmosis, just by even banking off things in front. But he has a total muffin of a shot, it's pathetic. But good vision and great defense. He's a good dude. Just so ****ing boring

I am starting to agree on Dowd. He was just drowning 5v5. But best vision on the team was useful on the PP. If Sam Gagner can be a 4th liner, so can Dowd.

When that system changes to a more offensive scheme you have to wonder how many players on the current roster and even in the minors become totally incompatible with the new style of play. And if you get rid of them, can the replacements be effective and do they fit under the tight budget that the team is trying to squeeze under?

I'm not totally convinced that it's going to be a simple fix with a quick turnaround like some of you guys are making it out to be.

You can call me a pessimist, but this team has been operating one way and under one style since 2012 so there might be a lot of kinks to work through that could make it an ugly transition.
