Las Vegas Golden Knights expansion draft picks will be announced during NHL award show on June 21.

That might help get a few more viewers.

Could be some awkward camera cuts to the audience.

Doubtful that anybody who gets picked will be there.

I want the league to make them walk up and put on a vegas jersey like the entry draft kids haha.

If a dman like Timothy Liljegren falls to LA, do/should they select him?

The Hockey News' Ryan Kennedy also echoed those sentiments based on his scouting contacts. I suppose it'll be an interesting interview process for Liljegren with teams trying to hear him detail the past season (ie, how badly the mono set him back).

When that system changes to a more offensive scheme you have to wonder how many players on the current roster and even in the minors become totally incompatible with the new style of play. And if you get rid of them, can the replacements be effective and do they fit under the tight budget that the team is trying to squeeze under?

I'm not totally convinced that it's going to be a simple fix with a quick turnaround like some of you guys are making it out to be.

You can call me a pessimist, but this team has been operating one way and under one style since 2012 so there might be a lot of kinks to work through that could make it an ugly transition.

Who's claiming that?

I dont think the system is going to change too much honestly. the team already has a very firm grasp on the defensive fundamentals (which wont change), the problem is what happens in the offensive zone and on the breakout. the dump, chase, lose puck, back-check, re-gain possession, rinse and repeat ad-nauseam Sutter-cycle days are gone. whatever coach comes in already has a strong foundation to build on, kinda like when Sutter took over for TM. Im cautiously optimistic because this team really cant get any worse when it comes to scoring. maybe all they need is a new voice to freshen things up.

The easiest fix in the world is on the powerplay. The kings are not deep on the offensive side of things but the top end has some excellent skills. For example, Carter and Toffoli have elite sniping skills yet who did Sutter set up for 1-timers until he finally gave up on it. If Kopitar can't make cross ice passes and Doughty won't get his shots thru and somewhere near the net than they need to be demoted off the top unit -- just do it.

Every NHL team wants to enter the zone with speed and possession of the puck.

Every NHL team does so whenever they can. This is based in large part on the speed and skill of the attacking forwards, as well as the ability of the defensemen to make good passes to quickly transition and exit their own zone.

Sutter's system doesn't demand dump and chase.

Every coach in the NHL requires their forwards to get the puck in deep if they are unable to build up the speed in the neutral zone necessary to carry the puck over the line. Now if you want to discuss the responsibility of the F3 once the puck is in the offensive zone and how high or low the F3 plays, that's a different story.

The core and foundation of this team is middle of the road. It is aging and quite simply not as good as it was three years ago.

For all I care, we could keep everything from the d-zone up to the opposing blueline the exact same (though the breakout was getting SLOPPY for a while there), just allow the guys to actually take chances in the offensive zone instead of just work the corner on rails and throw the puck back to the point. Throw a centering pass once in a while. Cross the puck across the slot. Anything.

(I'm oversimplifying, of course, I'd LOVE to see Doughty allowed to throw quick strike transition passes once in a while to keep everyone honest, for example.)

I think we have the personnel for anything but pond hockey.

When the Kings have time and space, they can score. Witness their overtime record over the last 2 seasons. I'm hopeful that with a different offensive philosophy, players will find themselves more often in scoring positions.

Anyway, hockey gods please bestow a top 3 pick on us!

Biggest things a new more offensive minded coach will help is the stretch pass/push the pace. How many times have we seen a Kings dman get the puck and instead of push the pace they peel back and wait for everybody to set.

And then also on the PP, it was stationary. Our D never crept in, our forwards never moved. They went to their spots and stayed there while Kopi and Drew passed it back and forth.

And then maybe, just maybe they'll teach our D that you don't always have to slap it, wrist shot sometimes works just as well.

Read that also. Sounds like he was a top 3 choice, but the bout with mono really zapped him. Could be a real steal at 10-11 even though LA could use a quality C/W player.

Seems like Glass is rising fast so might not be there when we pick (unless we get a top-3).

Looks like we will be able to get one of Tippett, Necas, or Petersson. Not to shabby. I think I am leaning more towards Necas at the moment.

If Timothy Liljegren is available you pick him and run! A kid that talented won't slip but if by a miracle he does.... you immediately put Amart on the block!

owen tippett would be nice. jeff marek talked about him on a podcast (i'll try to find and post)but he compared him to toffoli and james neal.

Why would drafting "immediately put Amart on the block"? Kid is 18, Amart is a very good NHL player. 99.9% sure he doesn't make the roster next season in the top 4.

He is beyond good and ready, if not for mono he's easily top 3... he's a plug and play kid, don't be fooled by his stats in a down year. He's probably on equal footing with Nolan, think Doughty/Stamkos debate just slightly less talented

He has to earn that spot, you don't just hand it to an 18 year old.

You don't hand anything to any player that comes up through your system but you can't discredit the talent this kid has especially when for the last 3 years he's been compared to Karlson/Doughty.... if we're lucky enough to land him and he shows his stuff during camp then Amart goes without a doubt...

Can't discredit his talent but let's not pretend you can just autothrow an 18 year old into the NHL. Should absolutely not draft with the mentality that the kid is going to fill a roster spot in the Fall.
