I don't care what Pettersson weighs or how tall Brannstrom is. They are good hockey players. I'll take that over bad hockey players with good measurements.

Yeah i don't care much either, i was just giving out the info :)
Pettersson could have weighed in at 145 and he'd still be my #1 ranked player :D

Very much how I've always seen it but like I said certain guys like Yamamato coming in at under a buck fifty is really small at the NHL level, I cant remember when the last time a guy got drafted around that weight in the first round.

Why Joey, why??

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on him, i don't watch much NCAA at all, he sure didn't impress me at the U-18 WJC though, i don't see the big upside there. To me he doesn't have anything that stands out, feels like the prototypical safe US based two-way C, i could be wrong though, small sample size etc :)

He has very good size and is a good skater at the center ice position. For some people, that elevates him like half a round. But I agree, his skill-set is very average. Not a bad player, but I wouldn't take him in the first round. More like an early 2, I think.

Craig Button had him #4 on his September list, and since that happened, people have expected Poehling to compete for 1OA after coming out of nowhere to be so high on Button's list, but he really hasn't. He's not even competing well for top 15, I'd argue his competition level has been the 25-35 range.

I am not a fan either, but his NCAA numbers shouldn't be used to judge him, because:

A.) He's very young
B.) He plays for a team that doesn't have a lot of offensive talent as a whole

Poehling looks to me to be a poor man's Stepan.

He doesn't work for possession at all. Not sure if it were first year jitters, but every time I saw St. Cloud play he was lacking a lot of grit. Just hung around in the slot for deflections. He's not good at positioning, either, in the defensive and neutral zones, where a player should be gritty to get the puck. Seemed to just be out there and go straight to the net. Could be coaching, could be extreme lack of IQ. He was a middle 6 center for a non-offensive St. Cloud team. Not a fan. Think he'll be similar to Hugh Jessiman, in the sense of a miss, if picked in the 1st round.

Sheesh. Not a great showing.

Like someone mentioned before, Sam Bennett had a big ol' goose egg at the combine, but is still a good player. Mittelstadt is still a good player, despite the lack of preparation. To me, the lack of preparation is something to be concerning, though.

I wouldn't say size and weight is something to calculate as a 1st rounder, 2nd rounder or whatever the case. Talent is talent. If a player is 5'8/156lbs., but has nearly 100 point season (*cough *cough... Yamamoto) and still plays physical, grinding game, that gives more of a motive for a pro game than that of a player who isn't gritty enough to gain possession to turn the play the other way.

Joey, about Tippett's skating, I was reading an article today from a prospect writer who was ranking the best skaters in this draft, and had Tippett #2.

Mind posting the article? I'm suspect on his speed still and don't think its overly worth a top 10 pick.

Norris test results are insane, a physical specimen... Still don't think he's a 1st rounder, don't see the offensive upside to warrant that.
Maybe a team that already has high end skill among their prospects can pick Norris late 1st, teams like Yotes or Leafs could make sense.

He's been a ppg player this entire year though? Idk if this is true, but I feel like a lot of kids that are PPG in the USHL in your draft year end up being good NHLers

He's been centering their top line, playing mostly with Tkachuk, Wahlström etc, there's also a difference being PPG in USNTDP then another team in the USHL.
I think Norris is going to end up a good NHLer, i just don't see the upside for him to be a consistent 50+ point C even if he hits his ceiling.
I could be wrong about him but that's my view, he's a smart two-way player but i just don't see the upside.

I should've clarified that I'm in the camp of trading back in the first round and I wouldn't take him at 21. I liked what I saw in his game and think he can end up like a JT Miller type of player. They had similar stats too going into the draft

His shot is insane, though. Norris is a very good player. Here's some highlights....

That's fair enough, if we trade back to late 1st/early 2nd then i'm fine taking Norris, i still wouldn't be thrilled though since i really think we need to add some high end skill with this pick, go for upside.

Redline does two mock drafts. Pretty certain all who contributed on this thread would be happy with the results.
1st one has us drafting Liljegren
2nd one has us drafting Brannstrom

Is this a mock or a ranking? Big difference to me.

If it's a ranking then it's pretty weird, so much recency bias to have Vesalainen that high. Rasmussen in the top 10 makes any ranking bad to me, he's not in my top 25. Robertson at #9? That crack you were talking about, the guy who made this list must have been smoking some crack.

Pretty much most of this list is a mess imo.

But who knows, maybe i'm the stupid one :)

Top 31 is a ranking. He had 2 mocks that I will post later.

That guy that made the list is a professional who is contracted not by a single team but every club in the NHL to do an independent scouting service.
