I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on him, i don't watch much NCAA at all, he sure didn't impress me at the U-18 WJC though, i don't see the big upside there. To me he doesn't have anything that stands out, feels like the prototypical safe US based two-way C, i could be wrong though, small sample size etc :)

I am not a fan either, but his NCAA numbers shouldn't be used to judge him, because:

A.) He's very young
B.) He plays for a team that doesn't have a lot of offensive talent as a whole

Poehling looks to me to be a poor man's Stepan.

Josh Khalfin then rt'd one of these replies:

Back on the Jokiharju hype train?

Someone mentioned it, but trading back to get another asset and then drafting someone like Jokiharju, Yamamoto, etc., would be a good move.

I'm very fine with trading back, obviously depending who's on the board. But if we trade back ~5 spots and pick Jokiharju/Timmins then i'm happy. Use that 2nd rounder on Heponiemi/Ikonen/Boqvist

I honestly hope the Devils pick Nolan Patrick. Dude is a completely injury prone mess and he's not even 19 years old yet. If he can't stay healthy in Juniors than how is he going to stay healthy as he gets older in a MUCH more physical league.

I just can't see him have a long and successful NHL career.

Hague is a good skater for his size, i'd even say very good so that's not the issue.

What's the issue with Hague? Limited upside? No offense? I'm curious because between him and Foote, anytime you can add a top four mobile defenseman with size, it's always a good thing.

Currently, (and I'm talking organization-wise), the only areas of strength are LD and goalie. If a player is so much better value then players who fit a need, you take him. But, when you have no separation between players, then I have no problem drafting for need. You still need to build depth throughout your system.

I think winger as well. Buchnevich, Kreider, Miller, Vesey, Gropp, Gettinger, Kovacs is fine winger depth.

Sheesh. Not a great showing.

Yeah thats bad, but I would think the scouts know he's a few years away from going pro, needs time to mature physically.

As for Hague, he has nice skill and skating for a big man, questionable hockey sense. Gets caught reaching alot, took alot of bad penalties. But still, guys with his size and skating are hard to find.

Joey, about Tippett's skating, I was reading an article today from a prospect writer who was ranking the best skaters in this draft, and had Tippett #2.

Some interesting notes on measurements:

Filip Chytil measured in at 6'3.5, nearly 6'4. He's going first round. With that skill, he's 6'4. Thats a first rounder.

Jokiharju is 6'0.75, which will likely boost his draft stock. I think he's now a definite first rounder.

Heponiemi is 6'0, which'll boost his draft stock. I think he's now a definite first rounder.

Vesalainen listed at 6'5. Some teams will really like this, reminds me too much of a poor-man's Puljujarvi.

Mittelstadt only got 5'11.5. I won't knock him for his lack of strength, but I had thought he was at least an inch taller.

Tippett only got 6'0.5. I was expecting at least an inch more.

Robert Thomas got 5'11.5. I think that makes him a definite top 20 pick, therefore out of the Rangers range.

That's pretty sad. He knew he had this event coming, did he prepare for it at all? I mean really..just 1 rep bench press?

Sam Bennett also had zero in his draft year.

It's not super important to be one of the best guys doing pull-ups, but you should be able to do a few.

Heponiemi is under 150 lbs though so i doubt he'll rise much, which is good since i want us to get him with one of our 2nd rounders we'll get at some point (hopefully) ;P

I agree with Chytil, HJ, but there are only so many 1st rounders, alot of sliding will have to happen for a guy like Heponiemi to make it into the first round, and I'm a huge fan of his.

I thought Mittelstedt was taller too.

Robert Thomas's height was always fine with me, he's good.

Tippett is strong and stocky though, one of the toughest to knock off the puck that I've seen in this draft so far.
