Nice to see some positive Russian bias. Any Kaprizov/Gusev type of guy this year?

This guy is my favorite player in this draft, and I think the best overager. Not saying he'll be the best player from this draft, but he reminds me some of Gusev, and he grew up playing with Buchnevich, they are from the same town, grew up in the same team, they know each other. Might be the best current player in this draft, also. Terribly underrated, no one watches his KHL team play, always been overlooked for Russian National Teams, despite being good enough. One thing I know for sure, the Rangers have definitely watched him play a lot, probably more than any other team.

A few other overagers I like.

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=313588 -Excellentshot, goal scorer, good skater.
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=312234 -Playmaking center, speed, skill.
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=285681 -Good KHL production, great shot, hockey IQ.
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=248278 -Terrible skater, but incredible playmaking, hockey IQ, playing in the NCAA's right now.

And then an overager who I'm not the biggest fan of, but some are. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=168686 -Gritty center, not big offensive upside, but productive and could be a bottom 6 C.

Among 1st year draft eligible players who aren't 1st, 2nd round picks in a lot of these rankings.

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=312832 -1st round talent coming into season, terrible first half of season, regained form 2nd half, skill, creativity, skating
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=359981 -Listed size is wrong, more like 6'0. Good skater, good skill, very productive, very young for 2017 draft.

What I like about Sweden and Russia is that those countries aren't as actively scouted as North America. In the VHL, MHL, SuperElit and Alsvenskan you see a lot more players "slip through the cracks" so to speak which is great when you draft in the later rounds. After the 4th round, I would go with European players 9 out of 10 times and invest in proper scouting for those areas, more so than teams usually do.

I pretty much like all those overager, LOVE Polunin, he's a machine gun, shoots all the time and has a great release.

Get a few extra late round picks and grab a couple of them to secure their rights.

Well, you just saved me an hour of typing and looking up URLs. Thanks. Aside from 1 or 2, these were the kids I was looking at for the later picks

Going back to the note about the Rangers interviewing Makar at the combine. Anyone know how well connected Greeley and Gorton are to UMass?

UMASS hired Greg Carvel as their coach last year, he has many years under his belt working as an assistant coach in the NHL. Was an assistant coach in Ottawa under former Ranger scout and Wolfpack head coach John Paddock. Paddock reccomended Seregei Zborovsky to the Rangers in 2015.

Carvel is putting together a pro style program at umass, he and assistant coach Ben Barr are two up and coming names in coaching. Barr was Providence asst coach when Wolfpack dman John Gilmour was there. Their other assistant, former RIT goalie Jared Demichiel attended Bostons prospect camp back when Gorton was with the Bruins.

Kind of OT but, Greeley isn't listed on the team front office page anymore.

At first I wondered if Gordie may be on his way out with a promotion for Greeley coming, but I found it intriguing that he may no longer be a part of the organization.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see where he ends up. He could've moved into a consulting role.

Woops, wrong thread.

What do y'all think of Bobby Mac's rankings?

Just for fun, we should start discussing Zuccarello to Dallas for Honka, 3OA and Gurianov and see if it shows up on NYP's website next week.

I think Cyrgalis is still crying in the corner after his expansion draft-blunder

What did Brett say? That guy is awful.

Saying we can protect Raanta because of Fast's surgery. Then he was called out on his BS and tweeted this:

Completely ignoring the fact that Fast was never going to be protected because we can only protect 7 forwards

Man, it was ugly. It was painful. It...Was...Beautiful!

Last update from the draft sites....

Rangers pick Hague at No. 21

https://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2017/

1 (21) D: Nicolas Hague (CAN) (6'6"/214lbs., Shot: Left, Mississauga/OHL)
4 (102) C: Ryan Peckford (CAN) (6'0"/183lbs., Shot: Left, Victoria/WHL)
5 (145) D: Ryan O'Connell (CAN) (6'0"/150lbs., Shot: Left, St. Andrews College/HS-CA) * BU 18/19 commit *
6 (157) RW: Alexei Toropchenko (RUS) (6'3"/187lbs., Shot: Left, Balashikha/MHL)
7 (207) D: Reagan O'Grady (CAN) (6'2"/198lbs., Shot: Right, Sudbury/OHL)

Yeah, not a fan of this group. Hague is a good get. Peckford could be a good gamble later on, but not that early, IMO. Forget about O'Connell. Too big of a project, even though he will be playing for Penticton Vees in the fall. Toropchenko I'm iffy about. O'Grady is fine there.

How many of those scouts Bob poll do we think are EU based? :) I've got a feeling it's not very many.

He leaned heavily on the TSN trend of Canada > everything. He had to make it up for putting a Swiss at No. 1 over a Canadian in Patrick....

Sucks. Bob is normally not one for patriotism in his rankings.... :shakehead :shakehead

To be fair, it's not really Bob, he just polls his scouts. But it feels like it's pretty much only NA based scouts he's polled, right?

Most crazy thing i see in that ranking is Ivan Lodnia at #79 and Robin Salo at #90, that's INSANE to me. Both are in my top 31, Lodnia at #21 and Salo #25 right now.

It's still under progress so can change a bit but both are easily in my top 31, crazy to have them as late 3rd rounders imo.

They do this all the time. Usually all the NA prospects are ranked higher.

Deep breaths, I can feel your rant about overrating/hyping Canadian kids coming on

Don't be too nervous, we have Nik Bobrov pulling a lot of leg work in Russia for us, and we've been drafting more Russian kids recently than in prior years. Really hoping Tkachyov impresses in camp
