Vancouver can add forwards through free agency whenever they want. If these hold relatively true, I'd like us to trade down from 8th to about 12-13th and pick up Valimaki (or Liljegren as a back-up plan - based on consensus and McKenzie's scout poll consensus at least one of the 2 is likely still there at 13).
With the asset taken and some of our other picks I'd try to get back into the early 25 range to pick up another D from the best on our board available left from Foote, Brannstrom, Hague or Vaakanainen (I'd expect a couple of those to still be there based on the consensus and McKenzie's scouts poll consensus).
That's of course if you are able to find willing trade partners.

I just don't see why teams should be so affected by a players stock falling when discussing prospects projected to go in the first half of the first round. It's not like we're talking about players that are going from "sure fire" to "bust"...not any more than any other player's bust factor from any draft. Chychrun would have been a fine selection for any team in the top ten last year, especially Buffalo. I don't want to see the same mistake this draft with Liljegren after Heiskenen and Makar are gone at #8 (or whichever D-man Buffalo thinks is #3 after those guys).

I'm so confused about Brannstrom. ISS didn't even have him in the first round while some people that watch him seem to think he's on Lijegren/Valimaki level. I wouldn't mind getting him somehow - just not at 8OA.
I don't know where this narrative comes from... the guy can skate. I mean, he's more of an "energy" skater, than an artist... but I wouldn't consider his skating a negative/con in his portfolio of skills. His size? Sure... a bit of a perimeter player? Yes... when he has the puck. But he's also a high energy forechecker who plays with a splash of reckless abandon..... skating is not something that will hold him back.
High end playmaker coming out of an uptempo/offensive scheme that highlights his skills perfectly.
I think I have an inflated opinion of many WHLers, as it was the bulk of my extra curriculars this year... but the guy is a 1st round talent, no doubt in my mind.
I'd compare him to Tim Connolly (with Nate Gerbe's personality/fearlessness)... most will take that in a negative way.
For all the talk of trading up/down, I'm actually content with where we are. There are a lot of very good defensemen in the top 10. Take the one you want. Maybe if I had watched Makar more, I would want to trade the world for him, but I haven't.
why not go watch a Brannstrom video, or some of the U18 games he dominated... and tell us what YOU think?
The game is changing... and players like Makar and Brannstrom (if they reach their potential) are going to continue to change it.

I had him near Gildon, Davidsson, Mismash and Phillips but Gildon had impressed me from what I saw at the U18's enough to get up to the top of that cluster. I see a lot of elbows and knees but didn't get the idea that he was actually getting anywhere quickly.
I like him, just decided to go a different way.
