With it starting to become clear who is going to stick and who could be loaned or sent back here is my first prediction.

Crouse-Strome-Dubois
Jost-Barzal-Speers
Beauvillier-Patrick-Vilardi
Senyshyn-Stephens-Gauthier
McLeod

Chabot-Fabbro
Bean-Juulsen
Lauzon-Myers
Girard (PP specialist/extra D)

Could be off. I don't think Marner, Konecny, and Chychun will be made available. I do think there is a strong chance Barzal, Chabot and Beauvillier are sent down, while Crouse and Strome I'm not quite as sure, but I think there is at least a decent chance. Cal Foote may be put on in one of the D spots if he can get a waiver. Anyone know what's up with Merkley and Johansen in Kelowna? Their numbers don't look great for 2 19-year-olds with a lot expected of them.

Vilardi may be a bit of a surprise pick, but I think he can play himself on to the team. He's such a high-iq player who is very adaptable up and down the line-up. This also isn't like the 2015 team that was so stacked they had no need to take top performing 17 year olds like Marner and Strome.

If all those players are eligible, then Canada will be in very good shape. There is no reason to think that Foote will be eligible to play for Canada. As for Merkley, he tore his ACL last year. It's not surprising that he has seemingly started off slowly. I am very interested to see what Girard looks like in the super series and hopefully at selection camp.

Strome and Chabot are already starting the year as healthy scratch. Isles are the Isles, so predicting what they are going to do if impossible, but they seem to be rotating Beauvillier and Barzal, so may be that gets them each 9 games, WJC camp, WJC then sent back to their respective teams. Out of the people in my lineup, I might actually be most sceptical about Crouse.

Honestly, I think we will be missing at least 5 players for sure - Chychrun on D, and forwards Marner, Konecny, Crouse, and Strome. There is almost no way I can see any of them being available. I don't know about B+B on the Islanders, but I don't believe they would send both back. One hopefully (selfishly, for us) yes.

Dubois - Barzal - Marner
McCleod - Strome - Konecy
Jost - Stephens - Roy
Crouse - Beaullivier - Gauthier
Kyrou

Chychrun - Chabot
Fabbro - Bean
Roy - Juulsen
Lauzon

Ingram
Cormier

I could see Strome being loaned. Coyotes seem to like Dvorak over him, and he was healthy scratched to start the year and Crouse only got 6 minutes last night. Konecny and Marner are getting solid minutes, they are the only 2 I'm convinced are gone.

yeah, it's true that Konecny and Marner are above them. But still, I think the Coyotes won't be sending any of those three down. Well, we will see, right.

Anyway, I think people somehow perhaps underrate the factor of having Nolan Patrick in this team. I think he could already be ready for playing the NHL right now. He's a future star and in my opinion, Nolan Patrick will be the most important forward on this team even if we somehow got Strome. He's that good. I'm 110% certain that he will step right into the league after his draft next year and will immediately be a factor, similarly to Eichel for example.

He's good, but you are in the minority on the Eichel comparison. Most would put him below Eichel and Matthews. He'll be in the NHL next year, but he isn't massively ahead of Dubois.

Yeah I know. :) But to me, he has something from Getzlaf, something from Tavares, and something from Toews. He's big, can be physical, can score, can pass, can play in front of the net...and is very good two-way player. The more important the game is the better he plays.

"Patrick is as complete an NHL package as you are going to find," said Dan Marr, NHL director of Central Scouting. "From his pedigree, his skills, and assets, to his performance impact to date, he has everything any NHL team is looking for in a top prospect."

Would be definitely sweet to see if the scouts got it a bit wrong and he truly was like Eichel or Matthews. I think he has the potential.

I definitely think he will be very important factor in Toronto/Montreal, hopefully he will open some eyes there.

I saw him a the memorial cup, this isn't a 100% true. He's a good prospect, and will make whatever team that gets him happy. But, I think he projects more as a Sean Monahan type player, which is below what Eichel, Matthews and Mackinnon were projected as. I obviously think he'll get a top 9 spot on Team Canada, and will have an important role to play.

I guess the pre-draft projections were Mackinnon, Eichel>Monahan, but I don't think they are that ahead of Monahan. Monahan matches up and even beats them statistically. We'll see what happens this year but Monahan impacts the game in more ways than MacKinnon and Eichel. Monahan is a top face-off centre in the league, he plays a strong, two-way responsible game, and he can put up points.

Eichel at comparable stages is much better than Monahan was, all we really have is their 19-year old years to compare. Both were also chosen for Team NA over Monahan. Mackinnon hasn't lived up to expectations, but I think Roy really hindered him. I think Monahan is a good center, but I don't think he'll ever be elite. Just a quality #1, which is what a lot of people see Patrick as.

Back to the WJC team, Chabot and Strome are playing tonight, and it seems Beauvillier stays in. Barzal and Chychrun are scratched. Will be interesting to see how these guys perform.

Monahan actually made Team NA but had to pull out due to injury.

just thought it was worth mentioning since the tournament is partly being played in Toronto where Canada plays the group stage

Team Canada has never EVER in the history of hockey lost a game in Toronto. Never.

First, I heard that in some media when the World Cup was around. And from what I have found, it must be true.

Team Canada has won every Canada/World Cup game there. Back in 1986, at the World Junior Championships, the team played in Hamilton, Kitchener, and one game in Toronto that Canada won. Even back in 1972 Summit Series, from the first four games that were played in Canada, TC beat the Soviets only in one of them. Guess in what city the game was played. That's right. And EVEN, the 1974 Summit Series, again Canada played 4 games on home soil, and again the team beat the Soviets only in one of those four games. The other three games were played in Quebec, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. The only game which TC won was played in Toronto.

Now, back to the present - 2015 World juniors, Canada ends the 5-year drought in Toronto by beating Russians in the finals 5-4. The 2016 World Cup. Canada is down 0-1 to Team Europe with three minutes to go. Bergeron ties it, Marchand scores the winner, and the story continues. Team Canada has never, ever lost a game in Toronto. Ever.

Pretty interesting. Because we know that the team is going to play Russia and United States in the group stage of the World Juniors this year in this city. I find the story pretty interesting and incredible, and adds quite a bit of an extra meaning to those games in my opinion.

Here is a list of all Team Canada games in Toronto:
1972 Summit Series - Canada - Soviet Union 4-1
1974 Summit Series - Canada - Soviet Union 4-1
1976 Canada Cup - Canada - Sweden 4-0
1976 Canada Cup - Canada - Soviet Union 3-1
1976 Canada Cup - Canada - Czechoslovakia - 6-0 (final best of three) (interestingly enough, 40 years later, the same result in the same city)
1986 World Juniors - Canada - Finland 6-5
1991 Canada Cup - Canada - Finland 2-2
1991 Canada Cup - Canada - Sweden 4-1
1991 Canada Cup - Canada - Sweden (SF) 4-0
2004 World Cup - Canada - Russia 3-1
2004 World Cup - Canada - Slovakia (QF) 5-0
2004 World Cup - Canada - Czech republic (SF) 4-3 OT
2004 World Cup - Canada - Finalnd (F) 3-2
2015 World Juniors - Canada - Denmark (QF) 8-0
2015 World Juniors - Canada - Slovakia (SF) 5-1
2015 World Juniors - Canada - Russia (F) 5-4
2016 World Cup - Canada - Czech republic 6-0
2016 World Cup - Canada - USA 4-2
2016 World Cup - Canada - Europe 4-1
2016 World Cup - Canada - Russia (SF) 5-3
2016 World Cup - Canada - Europe (F) 3-1
2016 World Cup - Canada - Europe (F) 2-1
2017 World Juniors - Canada - Russia
2017 World Juniors - Canada - Slovakia
2017 World Juniors - Canada - Latvia
2017 World Juniors - Canada - United States

22 games, 21 wins, 1 tie. Score 90-30.

If you mind, the olympics, world championships, or world U18 championships were never played in TO. 1981, 1984, and 1987 CC and 1996 World Cup were not played in Toronto.

That streak most likely ends on Boxing Day this year. Eventually all streaks must end.

Was listening to Hockey Central yesterday with 1 ear, but did I hear correctly, that Nolan Patrick is out with mono and probably won't be available for the tournament?
