Dfc and Ronnie gets what I'm talking about on this board! It's frustrating that yzerman can't finish off this process at this point. Looking back I think he rushed the drouin trade for no reason at all.
And how many times have the Blackhawks done this and won! We seem to be the Canucks, rangers and sharks and are somehow ok with that!
Calls on Johnson this team right now has to Add a top 6 forward not lose one lol
What?! I actually couldn't think of a more perfect example of why you can't "go for it" than the Blackhawks. They have to constantly dismantle key pieces of their team so that they can afford the core. The first time they won the cup they had to dump Byugflien and Ladd. The second time they had to drop Sadd, Oduya, Verstegg, and sacrifice Teravainen to dump the Bickell contract. This off season they've had to deal Panarin and Hjalmarsson at a discount, and somewhere in there they lost Sharp too.
These are guys they've drafted and developed, not free agent pickups. They were also extremely fortunate that the NHL let them get away with the Keith and Hossa cap circumvention contracts that allowed them room to do as they pleased over the years.
Now....who have they added via free agency? Anyone? They've got to pick off guys like Panik from the scrap heap and hope he has a breakthrough because they can't afford anyone else. They are not the role model "going for it" franchise.

Oh, almost forgot about Leddy. That right there is a vicious cycle of making the cap work. They got Leddy from Minny for Barker originally due to cap constraints, and then dealt him to the Isles for a collection of low end prospects highlighted by Ville Pokka because they were over the cap going into the 2014 season.
They made it work by dumping contracts like how Yzerman is doing.
Stan bowman 3 Stanley cups as a gm vs steve yzerman 0 Stanley cups as a gm. Yzerman is a good gm but you can't even compare him to bowman yet. The Blackhawks will get another cup before the lightning do! Just watch bowman work as he has. Don't know if Scotty bowman taught Stan well but he is a darn good gm.
It's frustrating to say the least I don't like our philosophy it's like let's keep rebuilding so we don't have to rebuild massively one day ? Instead of let's finish our rebuild into a cup contender. I don't feel like we even try to make our selves a serious cup contender sometimes? Our goal right now should be to surround our core guys with the best possible players to complete for the cup for the next 3 years! Because like it or not hedman and stamkos are not super young anymore. I think yzerman over values some of his prospects a lot. When do we get to step 2 ? I'm not totally trashing yzerman since 2010 yzerman has been awesome rebuilding this team! But it seems like we are ready for the final step now and for what ever reason he just won't go there ?
"Rushed" the Drouin trade? They could have traded him when he requested the trade but they waited until he increased his trade value. Looking back on this I'm surprised they didn't trade him back at the deadline.
They rushed to to protect killorn and vladdy I think . Drouins value was not going to decrease at all it may have increased by this weekend! This is a very weak fa class! Someone may have went very hard for drouin.

Can anyone make the argument that trading Drouin made us better for the upcoming season? Anyone?
Yzerman did well with the Drouin trade. He did not want to be here and was not going to take a bridge deal and be a team player. Yzerman will hopefully make good with the cap space. Got a promising D prospect as well as the cap space.

Jesus christ is our roster finalized? Until we have an opening night roster can you guys just quit ****ing whining about it?
All of this over a power play specialist.

All this depressive **** is killing the vibe from a pretty good draft. Maybe it's time to take a forum break till July 1st.
It absolutely was a solid draft agree there! But this club is worse then the 94 point club a year ago.
No I liked that trade the oilers did larsson was a established top 4 NHL d man not a prospectLast year everyone was losing their minds when the Oilers traded Hall for Larsson. After that trade the Oilers signed Lucic on July 1st. Did the trade look that bad after that signing? Yeah, just wait calmly before saying our roster will be worse than the Vegas next season.
