Do people really think Maatta was a better D-man this postseason than Hainsey? I'm not saying he's a stud, but we just won a Cup with him playing top pairing minutes. Split his minutes with Cole and I have no problem retaining his services.

Yes easily! Hainsey should not be brought back under any circumstances

The playoffs ended like 2 weeks ago and people have already forgotten how horrendous Hainsey was 95% of the time?

“a lot of what happens at the draft this week in chicago will determine what moves we make going into july 1,” rutherford said. “but would i be willing to make a move to bring in a defenseman? Of course i would. We could use someone there, especially if we don’t bring back certain people.

We will be very active in talks this week. I’ve got my eye on it.”

Not an Eberle fan but I kind of like the fit with him and Tavares. I think Tavares can make good use of him kind of like he did with other not so fleet of foot wingers like Moulson and Vanek. On the other hand the Isles haven't seemed as fast in recent years and this addition doesn't make them any faster.

Well yeah. You're moving Maatta for a high end piece at a position we have no internal solutions for anytime soon unless Sundqvist takes a big step next season.

Hainsey's been pretty much the same limited player for most of his career. He's still suppressing shots at a top 4 level which is all you really need as a safety valve for Schultz. Or rotate Cole in there. I'd be playing Dumo/Letang 20-25 min. with the other two pairings splitting the rest at ES.

I'd rather spend a little extra and find a solution that can pass the puck as well. This spring proved there's a limit to how much forward firepower can do when they can't get the damn puck.

That is the best gif I've seen here since Ogrezilla introduced me to the wonders of the Macho Man

I saw it and instantly loved it.

Yep. He's awful with the puck 95% of the time and will have more miles on him. So, no, I don't want him back.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: RT @CanadiensMTL: Canadiens acquire defenseman David Schlemko from Las Vegas, in return for a 5th round pick in 2019.

Have you forgotten how horrendous Maatta was?

Rewatch some of the Nashville games. Maatta was no better seeing less ice time.

Over the whole playoffs I'd say Maatta was our 2nd best D man.

If this is the price Vegas are selling their dmen at, finding number 6 might be quite easy

Also if the best logic for bringing back Hainsey is he'd be better than Maatta if you don't really rate Maatta... then love of god, don't bring him back.

Very surprised Oilers took Strome and not Harmonic. Which leaves him in the ballpark for the Av's.

Knowing what we have in Guentzal, and an idea on Reese; are either Sheary or Sprong in play if the Pens pursue Duchene or Galchenyuk?

Maybe it's just me but I'm not that crazy about Eberle. Decent player but definitely not a star.

But I agree that they didn't give up much to get him, surprised Chiarelli didn't try a little harder to get a D

Look at their salary structure. McDavid will likely get a $10.5-11mil contract so they will need to clear some room for him.

Drai needs a new contract, Nurse will be up, Talbot has one year left...they have some major contracts to be giving out soon. They needed to get rid of Ebs $6mil.

They pretty much have to be if going after Duchene.

I don't really see the point in moving really good attacking assets for really good attacking assets tbh. Duchene's ability to play centre means I'd consider it.

Whenever I hear Galchenyuk's name I want to hit my head on a wall tbh. How many skillful forwards do we need? What about him makes him better than Sheary, bets on Sheary continuing his form aside?

Exactly. They are basically going to be in the same boat as we were at one time. You can't just say "**** it let's go for broke" when you're going to lose large chunks of cap space soon.

I am not a hater like many here on Hainsey. If he was a #6, I wouldn't be mad. Obviously I'd like to go for other targets first, but if he was brought back uber cheap to be a #6, in no way shape or form would I complain.

He had his ups/downs but he was playing as a #1 dman. Dumo took most of the work, but Hainsey wasn't awful and could benefit from being a 12 minute a night guy. Not saying that's my initial want, but it's not an awful backup plan. You need 8 solid NHL dmen with how we get injured. Ruh, DP, Hainsey being a #6/7 ain't the worst.. We can get better at the deadline, too.

At least Maatta brought some offense to his game. Hainsey?

I'll be fair. Hainsey and Maatta both out up 8 points and Cole put up 9 in the playoffs. Yeah, I don't know how Hainsey did it either. Maatta also somehow had a ridiculously low number of points this season but I think that's ananomoly.
