Kings do not need a third line center. The Kings have Lewis,Shore and Kempe and youth in Ontario to fill their need at that position.I don't see Kings wasting a trade on that position. They need a top 4 defenseman and top 6 winger.Top 4 defenseman is the priority.
Imo the kings only need a upgrade on defense when everyone is healthy we look like this

Iafallo Kopitar Brown
Pearson Carter Toffoli
Gaborik Kempe Jokinen/Mitchell/ Brodzinski
Clifford Shore Lewis

Who would you move out seriously ?

As unpopular as it maybe is Gabby. That contract needs to go for long term salary reasons.Sell while his stock is high soon.

You've to answer this, if one of Brown,Toffoli,Pearson or IA goes down, who can fill in for them? You probably say Gabby. But it wrecks the bottom 6 when you do.The Kings depth at top 6 is weak.We need a top 6 fwd and top 4 defenseman if the Kings are a true contender.Right now the depth in the top 6 fwd is weak and so is the top 4 defenseman position in the case of a major injury.

Patches would be a good addition, but I'm not sure the Kings are willing to part with what Habs fans would want.Maybe give us a idea what you would expect prospect and or draft picks wise for Patches. It would be a lil easier to gauge a answer you're asking

Kempe and Vilardi ( as long as he is going to recover and play hockey again, what a back sprain , holy ).

Not a chance in hell Two elc contracts for a 17 months of Patches um no thanks

The usual ask is this trifecta of 1st, NHL ready good young player and top prospect, which I boiled down to two assets. As it is you guys are doing well so when you add Patches and Carter, that 1st is going to be very low.

Okay, Kempe or Vilardi ( Habs choose ), 2018 1st and 2019 2nd. For Patches.

For the Kings, the need to have effective, low salary players significantly outweighs the need for a top forward right now. It's the key to keeping Doughty around without just signing a bunch of minimum salary plugs.

I think Montreal would maximize value by finding a bubble team desperate to make the playoffs (who would probably meet that price).

Per Jon Rosen

Am told that Torrey Mitchell's visa has been approved and that he will catch a flight to St. Louis later today. And thus ends VISA WATCH: 2017. I think.

If we're talking about trading MTL, a good, obtainable piece would be Petry. A historically solid RH defender with high possession stats on possession poor teams is something that we need. He'd go a long way in solidifying our bottom 4 D.

Still hell no Patches would be nice but is not a piece the kings need. Our top lws are full Iafallo is playing well. He has great chemistry on a line with Kopitar and Brown I am more then Happy with Pearson playing with (a fill in center ) Shore and Toffoli till Carter is ready. Even our 3rd line has Gaborik who since back has 4 points in 4 games playing with Kempe and our 4lw will be Clifford when healthy So no need for patches.

Also we would never trade 3 pieces of our future for any player let alone a rental so no thanks at all

I would also support a trade for petry. I think he would stablize the right side of our defense. I would offer Folin and 3rd maybe add mersch or auger if interested

Jeff Petry - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Petry has a NMC and a 5.5M cap hit till 2021. Unless the Habs retain salary I wouldn’t offer more than a low pick and Andreoff. One can see why Bergevin should be fired.

Lewis and Kempe don't win faceoffs, and Shore can't score. None of those guys are true 3rd centers.

He has too many years left on the deal to be sold. Blake would have to add a couple assets. He either retires, or they ride with him until at least the last year of the contract.

He's quite a ways from a guy you can put out there late in a game for important draws, but at least he's getting better. I still expect him to be up and down for a while.
And as a rookie that's newer at the position I'd expect more down than up for that while.

That's the reality of it and Kempe will probably be growing at that 3rd center position. If the face off is a huge concern they'll just have Shore,Jokinen or Mitchell take the draws. Its really a non issue.Kings are not going to spend assets or picks on a third line center men nor do they need to.The Kings holes are the same as the past few years, top 4 defenseman and another top 6 winger.Without moving salary out those needs won't be truly filled.Kings are weak on depth if a injury happens again to Brown,Toffoli,Pearson,Kempe or even Doughty or Muzzin or Martinez as example.Where in Ontario are they going to replace those goals and minutes?
