I would also support a trade for petry. I think he would stablize the right side of our defense. I would offer Folin and 3rd maybe add mersch or auger if interested

Are you sure. Look at his contract. I wouldn't want anything to do with his contract as our $$ needs to be saved for #8. Plus our front office has tried to get Folin for a few years, we get him and he plays well here doubt he gets moved out.

Why? I swear some posters on this board couldn't find a good pie even if it hit them in the face.

I get that Pacioretty would have too high a price or wouldn't fit a need on this team. I would probably target Plekanec on the Habs instead, but if the Kings have a chance to get a top player like Pacioretty, you have to think about it.

He is not worth what the cost would be to get him. Also he has disappeared in the big games (like playoffs)

Montreal could always retain a bit of that money and i would be fine. He is a upgrade on folin and i think he would be good for a cup run or two. Not the perfect player i agree but better then what we have imo

I've seen him compared to Chris Kreider more than once.

Yea that's the general comparable. I think Wagner will struggle at some things, but like Kempe, I think his game is more suited towards the NHL than the AHL. It's difficult to get a read on blazing fast players because they usually end up way out in front as their line mates cant always play with that pace. Kempe used to always be way out in front when he was with Cammy, lots of 1 on 1 stuff. Now with Lewis and Gaborik, they are coming up as a unit as those two can keep up. I think we will see the same with Wagner.

He doesn't have Kempe's shot, but he's an even faster skater. His top gear and acceleration are world class. I haven't seen enough of him to get a read on his hockey IQ, maybe someone who has seen him regularly can chime in. That will be a key component of whether he succeeds or not.

Austin Wagner is 6'3 190? Kreider is 225 damn. Pretty light for his height.

Is there any videos someone can link of his? I'm gonna search myself, curious to see why the hype. And if anyone can give some explanation of his game I'd think me amongst others would appreciate it :).

RECAP: Pats Start 2017 with 7-2 Win over Raiders – Regina Pats

You can see a little of his speed in this clip, around 2:20. He also scores right at the beginning.

On his breakaway, he almost looks like he’s loafing and still pulls away easily from everyone. Granted the defender was flat footed, but his skating is ridiculous.

Actually, Brown did drop some weight this off-season.

Yea a 200 lbs head coach. I'm sure he has but his biggest gain was a new system that does not grind the players into the ground and let's them be more creative. With the old coaches if you took a chance and it didn't work the moved you to the 4th line. Plus much of our youth has played well so far. Keep it up boys GO KINGS GO.

A fourth-round pick of the Kings in 2015, Wagner currently has one defining quality, but it is a special one. Wagner's speed is fantastic; in fact, Jon Rosen passes along management's belief that he's the fastest skater in the entire organization.

2016 Top 25 Under 25, Part 3: Size or Skating?

It's a year old, but keep in mind they didn't say fastest skating prospect. The organization includes Carter, Kempe, Lewis, etc.

Edit: Here's a more recent article that talks about his speed. I've been one of the people who said he could top out as a Kreider type.

Yeah Kreider is a brick shithouse. That guy's training stuff is intense. But he was drafted at 200lbs.

Dang, I hope this guy really pans out, we can use a player like that. We don't have one, he'd be a perfect fit to our team. Awesome.

Thanks KP, I really wanted something like this, thanks for the read. They seem to have a lot of hope in this kid.

I for some reason thought he'd said he came into camp heavier. That he was strange in that he put on weight in the year.
Not like it matters either way. He just needs to keep playing like he is.

Oh yeah, you're right.

Resurgent Dustin Brown has rediscovered his home on the Kings' first line
“I’m playing with Kopi consistently,” Brown said. “It’s not a question. I started with Kopi last year and I played one game with him and that was it. So it’s just knowing that [helps].”

Brown also is playing heavier, at 215 pounds, 10 pounds more than his normal weight to start the season. He’s thrown that around the goal-mouth and been the bothersome presence there that he was known for back when he was once a 33-goal scorer.

I tried to watch some of the Reign game last night (away game vs Tucson) on AHL live, but their camera coverage (trying to be trendy), spent half the game at ground level looking through the glass making it near impossible to see what was going on. Not sure what brain surgeon thought that it's a good idea to watch hockey on TV that way, someone needs to be fired. Anyway, I missed most of the game due to the Kings game and other obligations. Noticed Wagner a few times in the first period with bursts of speed, but they seemed to be really limiting his minutes (first competition in over six months), so it was hard to get a read on him. I can just tell you what Futa said to me. Wagner was the fastest skater in the entire CHL last season. His hands are a work in progress, a lot of improvement last year. I'll leave it at that.

Does he have that kind of upside, BK (legit 3rd liner)?

Those that have followed him more look to have already chimed in, but my feeling is that he will put on more weight once he is in a professional program and continues to mature.

If he retains his insane speed, he should be an NHL'er based on size/speed combo alone unless he has rocks for brains. I would hope he becomes more than a 3rd liner, but I'm trying to be realistic. The hands aren't totally there from what I've seen and read, but they've been getting better.

He's fast though. Very fast. Gives him an inside track to being an NHL player when coupled with his size.

Weight gain or loss can be meaningless in todays age of training. You can do cross fit, eat right, take supplements and gain weight because muscle weighs more than fat. Brown looks more powerful, he looks hungrier and he does look a little quicker but it's hard to gauge how much of that is tied into his dislike of Sutter. I'm sure we've all worked for bosses we didn't like before, production usually drops.

He was the nutrition king a couple of seasons back when that video of him working out in the park was posted on YT. He "looked" better, but the production wasn't there.

A large part is definitely Sutter being gone and knowing that he is going to play with Kopitar.

Yeah, playing time and line mates for Brown is making the difference - aside from the system. Also not accruing hard mileage during the prior 3 years as he could have may be helping now, too.

And vice versa . Sutter was never a fan of him, and jerked him around so much over the last two seasons it just killed his confidence. You can't do that to your captain and expect him to succeed. Pretty sure one of the conditions of Sutter resigning was to remove Brown as captain.

This to me is huge. While Brownie and DS obviously hated each other, inadvertently DS saved/extended Brown's paying career. Of Kopitar, Brown, Gaborik and Carter, Brown seems like the most likely to regressed suddenly within the next few years because of his physicality.
Kopitar and Carter will age gracefully ala Joe Thornton
Gaborik, even at 70% is faster than the league average and his instincts are skill intact
Brown has 3 maybe 4 good years left before he hits the wall but hopefully the cap will be at $85-$90 million by then
