How strong is Helsinki this Year since Munich will play them in 2 hours and i didn´t follow so much the finnish league.

They are okay but not amazing. Better than Kalpa and TPS, worse than JYP and Tappara when it comes to Liiga teams, I would say.

Let's wait and see who is strong. Last year, KalPa was far better than hifk. People inside ring-3 probably still have no idea how good some players were and why they are doing well in KHL start of the season now. It simply never gets reported, at all by media outside Savo. You will never get any kind of professional valuation off KalPa outside Savo, not even from most TV-crew guys.

Lot's of talk now about CHL lead that they want to have and "Must have" KHL participate in CHL in future.

How will the HIFK guy Everi feel, who is the reason Jokerit is not already in CHL. HIFK terminated that single handidly few years back, everi commenting Publicly that "We do not want to play Jokerit because we will lose like women", or was it exactly that way, well, something that basically meant that anyway and blocked Jokerit from participating. Everi also said that it is impossible that Jokerit will play in CHL, now he will eventually be walked over like a door matt.

Jokerit would tear HIFK and show who's king of Helsinki. That is what they're afraid in HIFK.

Such people are a reason why European hockey is so weak & fragmented. They value their personal feelings/aversion more than development of European hockey. Czech guy BÅ™Ã*za is the same, he is doing great job to ruin Sparta Prague. They behave like they were the most strongest guys in European hockey, they try to dictate to the KHL who should represent the league in the CHL. They are not in a position to do it, but they try. And then, they say to media that the KHL does not want to join the CHL. The KHL does not need the CHL for their development, but has offered many times an idea of challenge game between the both leagues, but the CHL has always refused it. You replied why. Will be interesting to follow if Frolunda will join a tournament in Davos during Olympics. There is a plan to have such a tournament, we will see. Everi fears of Jokerit? Why to fear? If there is no demand on KHL Jokerit, then KHL Jokerit will fail sooner than later. But it seems that Jokerit has more success in Finland than the CHL if we look at TV contracts & attendance. And I do not speak about the CHL in Sweden.

CHL "dictates" to every league, who should play there. What is wrong with that?

Can you clarify what exactly does Briza do to ruin Sparta? I am not saying he is doing good but it would be nice to know what kind of sources or opinions you are working with.

Well yeah, HIFK sure has looked awful. At this point I guess KalPa could be considered to be stronger. I really dislike the way HIFK plays as well.

CHL is not in position to dictate anything to KHL.

anyway, I do not care. CHL or KHL still immature.

I dont care about KHL teams in CHL either. I dont know whether CHL representatives behave in arrogant way, but I dont really know from where these rumours are comming from. Sure, if somebody asked for teams only from one conference, it does not have to be accepted. Still I quite understand to this demand. Anyway, be realistic, if somebody is trying to make european tourney, you have to obey its rules when you getting involved. You can call "dictate", I call it normal procedure.

True, there will be no compromise in near future as euro teams are too poor to travel across entire Russia and price money wont cover these expenses.

The season after this one the SHL should become stronger. Every teams budget will increase by around 35%

Did you read what QnebO said on Everi/Jokerit? Therefore I said that such people are bad for European hockey, because of their behaviour.

I wasted a few minutes of my time to dig up Medvedev´s interview on CHL from 2013. He said: We have agreed on everything with the IIHF, on schedulling, stages of the competition. But, only one thing stopped us. We, the KHL, wanted to have a right in the first season to decide what teams will represent the KHL & we wanted Jokerit here. But I received an official letter from them saying "it is not in interests of the CHL to promote the KHL in Europe". That is "normal procedure"? They want the KHL on board (so promoting the KHL in Europe), but not Jokerit? By this logic, KHL Jokerit would cause a promotion of the KHL in Europe, but SKA, CSKA or whatever in the CHL would not be a promotion of the KHL in Europe. Right? And then you want the KHL leadership to take CHL guys seriously?

Nobody has explained why the CHL has refused all offers to play a game or two bettween champions. If there is no chance to have the KHL in the tournament, but a good chance to have a match with them, then the CHL refuses it. Baumann literally said: A challenge game bettween the leagues sound good, but not in our plans in principle. Why not to try it? As I said, it will be interesting to follow if CHL Champ Frolunda will play in Davos (if a tournament happens).

Yeah for sure and cows can fly.
I can assure you the real king of Helsinki ( HIFK) won't afraid red-yellow clown group who escaped to KHL when they didn't want lose more regular season games to HIFK.

This.

Considering how no team makes a profit in the KHL, one would think giving some teams who could do with more revenue a chance to do that would be helpful for the league as well. If Jokerit, Slovan and Riga for example were to take part in CHL, you cant guartantee that their losses would be reduced.

Travel expenses though are the main reason why I think there will never be one big pan-European league. They're one of the main reasons for Jokerit losses in KHL and everyone knows how much travelling there is. Basically the only way to reduce costs would to do geographical groups or conferences that don't play much outside those. Of course that would reduce fan interest if you have to see the same teams every year.

In basketball the Euroleague works fine. Of course it is a bit bigger sport with a bit smaller rosters and all that, but not by so much that something similar couldn't eventually be possible in hockey.

I have a question for my Finnish friends

I was checking Tappara stats and i notice that Jan-Mikael Järvinen hasn't played so far, is he injured?

Thank you in advance for any infos. :yo:

Yep, Jan-Mikael Järvinen is recovering from a surgery

Baskeball is way more popular, less players, less expenses and less games. Not so much with hockey. The demand and finances simply aren't there for something similar.

I don't think he said it publicly. The only info is via Kummola a few years ago: https://www.uusisuomi.fi/urheilu/65...-mestareiden-liigassa-everi-ollut-puhetorvena

Jääkiekon uusi Mestareiden liiga CHL aloittaa toimintansa ensi kaudella.

-Timo Everi edustaa suomalaisia seuroja hallituksessa. En mä tiedä, mistä se on lähtenyt, mutta Everi on ollut puhetorvena, Kummola sanoi.

Agree completely. It is a Russian league and it will remain a Russian league. It is not the future of European hockey. The CHL could be and it's moving in the right direction. The competition is improving every year.

This. I like that the CHL narrowed it down to 32 teams this year yet I still think that there are too many of them. As much as I respect British and French hockey, I don't think they should have a team representing their country, let alone 2. I get that it's a great opportunity for their fans to see some of Europe's best players but let's face it, a Swedish team is gonna win this thing 90% of the time. And these teams from lower leagues don't stand a chance. But I like the path they are taking, already a huge progress from last year. Now fans just need to show up in the arenas, yesterday in Brynas there must have been 35 people in attendance

European leagues or the CHL can invest big money into hockey and develop their product.
No, they can't invest KHL-sized money. [MOD]

The money the European clubs can use to build their products has to be earned the hard way; through sponsorship deals where the sponsors actually get value for their money, through ticket sales, or through television deals where the television companies get value for their money.

I like växjös approach where they let sponsors pay for the tickets so its free for the general public

Växjö-Davos should be pretty filled

I'd also say our chances are pretty good to get far this year. Viktor Fasth doesnt like losing ;)

This is what I am most afraid about. There is a risk it could become boring. You will see pretty much same teams every year and with limited finance the quality will be +-same, ie at best better than regular season games. Here I would understand to KHL project, but it would have to be done in very neutral and clear way which is simply impossible imo.
