Folks a 39 year old D-man has played what, 40 mins of hockey now since last April and this without a even a full-training camp.

And he's been up against arguably the fastest team ever assembled.

Just chill.

I don't quite think he's cooked, but to be honest I don't feel he's a #1 anymore. If he's our best defenseman, that spells trouble IMO.

You could tell in the first 3 games they would miss the playoffs tied for the last spot and due to a tiebreaker? That's impressive

Ok maybe not that we would miss the play-offs, but certainly not title contenders. Making the play-offs and getting bounced in the 1st round is not a good season IMO.

I was screaming that all last year. We were kidding ourselves thinking we were a play-off team. You watched the first 3 games of the year and knew that. So instead of letting C. Miller and Morrow take their lumps, we played K. Miller and McQ and M. Irwin. So they between those they have half the experience they should have and are expected to make contributions this year.

And don't even get me started on Loui E. Would've been great to have some more young guys either via trade or picks.

This team is not a serious contender this year and isn't going to be until the D gets fixed. I think it's coming and I'm very excited about McAvoy, C. Miller and Carlo on the RH side. But we're a few years away.

I disagree about last season. If they got in last year, the matchups were there for them to have a serious shot at the finals.

The wouldve given tampa a better fight than Detroit. Tampa was without their best D man and best forward.

Then the Pens knocked out the Caps for them. The rest of the conference was wide open. They had a legit shot at the finals.

It would have been either Tampa or Washington for 1st round and that last years team wouldn't have won either of them.
Both of those teams are elite, the Bruins were not, they were the worst team to finish the season.

Ahahah mother (and father... and a bunch of other relatives) of all exaggerations of the year candidate, right there!

As I said above, I should've said Cup contenders. But there was plenty of people I'm sure that were saying it's going to be a long season and we're dead in the water after those first 3 games.

MONTREAL — Life progresses around Dennis Seidenberg.

The defenseman’s family has settled into its rhythms of school and fall life in Boston, his former city of employment. His ex-teammates are under contract and either competing at the World Cup of Hockey (Zdeno Chara is a fellow Team Europe defenseman) or preparing for the start of training camp, just like they do every year.

Seidenberg, however, is stalled. On June 30, the Bruins informed him that they would pay him $4,666,667 over the next four years if he turned in his Black-and-Gold uniform. Seidenberg was originally due $7 million in salary through 2018.

SPN is doing this hockey game on the cheap as Levy and Melrose are in Bristol, CT and not Washington.

Showing once again the Worldwide Leader's deep commitment to hockey

Watching the Finland/US game, that's why I don't want the Boston Bruins wasting recruiting time over there. And their coach reminds me of CJ, doesn't want to play the young players even if he is their best player! If this tournament has taught us anything, it's that the young players can play, and anything else is just toxic hockey culture that values a pecking order over playing the best players.

That is so true. Just look at the Oilers.

Herb Brooks figured that out 37 years ago and we know how that turned out.

The U23 team could make a lot of noise in this tournament but we won't know for sure until the weekend when the games count.

Having the entire tournament in Toronto appears to be backfiring on the NHL/NHLPA as TV numbers indicate the Jays are what people want to watch right now.

Tuukka Rask in unusual position at World Cup of Hockey

WASHINGTON — Tuukka Rask felt good. In his first World Cup of Hockey exhibition appearance against Sweden last Saturday, Rask saw the puck well and moved confidently in his crease.

Results are results, however, and the bottom line was not good for Rask: five goals allowed on 28 shots in Finland’s 6-3 loss to Sweden, which included an empty-netter. Never mind that two of the first three goals flicked off the stick of ex-teammate Loui Eriksson from point-blank range on the power play (including one two-man advantage). Or that the third, a Patric Hornqvist fling from the corner, glanced off Finnish defenseman Sami Vatanen and skittered past Rask.

In international tournaments, coaches require hot goalies. So in Tuesday’s exhibition finale, Team Finland coach Lauri Marjamaki gave Rask a seat on the bench against Team USA in favor of Pekka Rinne (13 saves on 15 shots in the Finns’ 3-2 overtime win over the Swedes on Thursday). The US won, 3-2.

Well Rinne was good last night so I don't think Rask will earn the starter spot. He was classic Tuukka on Saturday - played great to start made some awesome saves, then his D collapsed and let in a few, then he gave up a poorly timed softie in the third.

He's usually a slow starter though so maybe he'll get off to a better start for us?

Not shocked. Rask just isn't that good anymore. Could be a case of getting fat after getting paid, he just hasn't looked the same since 2014.
