Nope... Russia has 140 million population, while 99,9% of population don't play hockey at all. It's not even among most popular sports in Russia.

Actually, Figure Skating and Ice Hockey both rank very high.

It's obvious that a sport like football would be more popular as it only requires a ball and you can play it anywhere. Then there's bandy but that's really niche.

It's pretty dumb that we won't get more variety. I at least would like to see games vs Czechia or Russia. It makes little sense like this.

Maybe he is more talanted but this is not about who will be best but who is best now.

Enroth had close to 96% then.

If anything we will be at a lack of forwards. This defense line up is the best we've ever come close to and is pretty much the only thing we can count fully on. Heck, even Karlsson was good in his own end in Sochi
 
I've been listening to Tomas Ros' podcasts and they are actually quite good. Very low key Swedish and a lot of silly questions about what are you going to do with all the money. Yeah, like Swedes are going to touch that. But the players are pretty candid and relaxed. I think it was Forsberg's podcast that was done from his parents house.

I just really hope the WC fails, so there is still a chance that NHL will go to the Olympics. Team Europe v NA kiddies ftw.
 
Very impressed by Rakell, strong as a bull, physical and good skills.

I think he will be a dark horse in this tournament.
 
Yeah, Rakell really could develop into a star player in the NHL. I'd say we put him with Bäckström, did Hörnqvist even play today? Also really liked Silfverberg.

Strålman was our best player this first game however, absolutely love his game. Small mistake on the 2nd goal but it was mostly on Enroth.

Didn't think anyone played terrible but the likes of Bäckström and Forsberg must be a lot more noticeable 5 on 5.

I was very pleased with Markström's performance. Enroth won't get another game so who cares if he let in a bad one.

Hörnqvist worked hard, finished some checks. Nothing more can be expected from him. He should play in 4th line.
 
I think that Bäckström's line did not work today. I would like to try replacing Hörnqvist with Landeskog, that line would be brutal.

He recently won the Stanley Cup playing on the first line, putting up 22 goals and 51 points in the regular season. We can expect more from him than working hard and delivering checks. He must get into the dirty zone in front of the goal and the results will follow. Too early to talk about breaking up the line.

Forsberg - Bäckström - Hörnqvist has the highest potential of the Swedish lines. Just be patient. If it's still not working and we lose the opening game, then we can talk about splitting them up.

did you not notice that he plays on the 1st line?l I remember he played with Peter Forsberg in 2010 olympics and was just as useless. Hörnqvist has never been good in team sweden.
