As czech_mate mentoined, Nestrasil would be likely the one. He recovered much better than expected and he would be fit for the World Cup. Either way, I really wish Krejci will be fit, he is our best player.

By the way, why couldn't we nominate Nestrasil and eventually replace him if he couldn't go? Was there some rule you can't nominate injured players or...?

I think that they just didn't think he'd be back healthy on time. And even if he was, how good would he be after such a long break? Hudler makes more sense to me, I just finally want to see him given a chance, if anything.

That will be moment of truth. There is no one else left. Its just my feeling but I can not imagine that Hudler will be leader of national team.....

He doesn't have to be a leader, just needs to fit in and play good hockey. It wouldn't surprise me if they pick someone else though, he's obviously not well-liked by people on the top of Czech hockey hierarchy for some reason.

Apparently they're thinking either Vrbata or Hudler. We'll know at the end of this week if Krejci can come.

What were they supposed to do...put NA-u24 in same group as Can/USA? How about one of RUS or Sweden, so that 3 of the top 4 teams were in same group? Would that be any better?

Finland and Sweden are natural rivals who will meet for sure in round robin? Ditto Canada vs USA. Chances are, both those games will be must wins for somebody

I think tourney organizers did fine in picking the groups...But if you think you can do better...let's hear yours?

I think this was a cheating draw. The Czechs has a solid Team with big Problems in defence and Goaltending. Team Europe ist strong but not motivated enough.
It is a vital NHL interest that both NA-Teams reach the SF.
Sweden,Russia and Finland are very dangerous for NA(Look to 2004).

I don't want to pretend I know anything about why they made the groups they way they are, but those groups are pretty reasonable. You have US-Canada and Finland-Sweden together, Team Europe facing both NA national teams, while the NAU24 team facing only european teams. Having both Euro and NA teams together in one group isn't clever. And having the North American team play Canada or the US immediately in the group stage isn't either imo, it's better to give them the chance to play only european teams there.

If the groups were to be made perfectly, what would it be?

Canada, Russia, Czechs, NA
USA, Sweden, Europe, Finland

perhaps? not sure if it gets any better, besides the one fact that you don't have US and Canada together :dunno:

I dont want to be much biting here, but it always depends "clever for who". This group is certainly not that clever for us as lets say NA24, Euro, Finnland and Czechs would be easier :) This group is easier for US and Canada. All remaining teams will have tough job. but thats detail. You exactly draft that groups how they should be eventually. If we and euros are considered as weakest ones we shouldnt be together. Anyway it does not really matter. These are still pretty good teams so I am eager to watch us against US and Canada in group.

that's the thing I think. I don't believe the NHL considers Team Europe the weakest. I think they consider them being better than Finland, the Czechs, and perhaps close with Sweden. They have Josi, Chara, Kopitar, Hossa, Nielsen, Zuccarello, Boedker, Gaborik, Draisaitl, and many others. To me, this team definitely has the chance to make the finals, if they take it seriously. All it really takes is to beat the US, which is certainly possible with that roster. Don't get me wrong, the US is, in my opinion the only team that could beat Canada imo, and I think they will finish 2nd (hopefully :)), but in one game anything can happen and Team Europe has the strenght to possibly beat them. Which I certainly wouldn't say about the Czech team. No offence (or no defense, :D).

And we have a morale to beat them. USA - CZE will be most intriguing match for me. If it looks like in Sochi we done for next four year and I will loose my hopes. But smth inside me telling me that this time it will be different....

I'm sure excited to see your team too. I think you are underrated and could possibly make some noise. You have a couple of very good two-way players and Krejci and Voracek are both really good.

Krejci out, even the smallest chance of some kind of surprise is gone now. He was the best player on the roster. He will probably be replaced by Hudler.

One of the few things I looked forward to (Krejci-Pastrnak duo) won't happen and there is literally nothing to be excited for in the World Cup. :help:

Time for Hudler to show us what he's got.

Ah, come on. With or without Krejci we're not great anyway so who cares. I agree that it's a big loss, but if we're gonna win any game against USA/Canada it's gonna be with insane goaltending imo. Let's see.

I was gonna say that I would like to see one of Vrana, Simon or Zacha replace Krejci, our chances of a surprise are as low as they can be, so why not give a try to some young, promising forward. Then I realized how Hudler was overlooked in 2014 and I guess it should be him, he deserves to go on one more high quality international tournament. Olympics 2018 is the year when the youth should start kicking in (assuming NHL players are allowed to go there)

I totally agree with you. It's just that as a Bruins fan I was excited to see Krejci in the national jersey next to Pastrnak. Shame, I hope it will happen someday in the future.

Cervenka?

You cannot be serious. I mean, really? REALLY?

:help::shakehead:cry:

If this was the backup plan that they were talking about then I'm genuinely concerned...

Looks like Hudler and Jandač don't like each other very much. But it doesn't really matter who is "replacing" Krejčí. I just hope Voráček and Hertl bring their A+ game and Mrázek pulls of Hasek-like performance.

Hudler gets overlooked once again, no youngster either... It's Cervenka!!

Calling it now, a reserve player Cervenka will end up in the top 6, pushing Hertl or Pastrnak to 3rd line. :help:
After this poor coach decision I kinda fear he will make another one with goalies, giving Pavelec the starter position because ''he is the more experienced''.
I have a feeling this tournament will end up very, very badly for us...

Yep, I think you're right. Pastrnak gets kicked to line 3 for "lack of international experience"
Jaskin probably won't play.
