J.T. Compher will play for the US at the WC

I like that Compher will be playing. He is a playmaker!

I understand why some won't go,and I agree if you are injured or are in the last year of your contract there is a risk, I get that. What I am referring to is players like Kessel who don't go saying they are "tired" which is funny because I bet they wouldn't be tired for the playoffs! I'm just tired of watching team USA finish 5th, 6th and 7th etc. Looking at player availability this year they should have been able to ice a very strong team.

Kessel has played well for the US in the past. Frankly I wouldn't want Phil at this tournament, he doesn't keep himself in great shape, doesn't back check and i'd rather have a younger kid that wants to be playing in the WC.

The US have a couple of Bronze medals since 2013 without a bunch of NHL stars. This years team will be competitive again becuase the USNDT is getting better and better at developing. This, of course, will not stop european and Russian hockey fans jumping all over the roster that the US sends, they do it every year.

I was looking forward to see some of these names play real hockey once again, instead of the overcoached and overhyped snoozefest that the NHL has become. Too bad, the U.S. could have had a really good team.

Jake McCabe has been invited and will more than likely accept. Jake Gardiner hasn't been invited and Hudson Fasching sounds like he would like to play for US

lol at 19 year old and still developing hockey players believing they need to unwind after a whirlwind season. Jack needs to be playing games in May for championships until there are no more games left to be played.

but oh well, it is what it is.

This is his first year of playing professional hockey and it's grueling number of games. He probably is tired right now and doesn't want to play in a tournament that means very little to many North Americans.

I think the team will be good. I haven't read anything about players so far though. Galchenyuk seems to be going, Matthews is already on the roster.

Here's something from K. Palmieri:

"It's a possibility. I played in it before, but you're going back four years," he said. "I'll wait until the season is over and talk about it."

worth noting that Palmieri is a RFA, and the coach of the NJD, J.Hynes, who's also the head coach of Team USA for the world championships, knows it can be a factor when making a decision:

"It would be nice to have him," Hynes admitted. "As the coach of the U.S. team it would be fantastic to have him for sure. But he doesn't have his contract for next year, so a lot of those things are difficult for players like that to make a decision. But as the coach of the team, all aside, I'd love for Kyle to play on it."

edit: according to Dhiren Mahiban, J. Van Riemsdyk is not ready to play, and Gardiner wasn't invited.

Then he should rest and sit out the idiotic team North America thing too.

This roster....oof. Connor and Vesey are basically locks to go with the rest of the roster. This roster more than likely will be like what people expected last year's roster to play like. Nearly every NHLer they've asked on plan A has turned them down except for Nick Foligno. Mike Condon was likely a ways down the list. If they don't get Hellebuyck to return, they're gonna really struggle if they don't get some serious names after the first round. Last year's team had some pretty good defensemen and the forwards featured a lot of good possession players who could drive play, which made up for a lack of good goal scorers, so far the names this year are not the same, though Matthews will obviously be awesome, but would like to see some good players playing with him. Hopefully they can get some players to accept invites after the first round but not looking great

This team is going to need college players again by the looks of it.

Quite amazing how few American players give a crap about the WHC. Easily the worst turn-out of all countries.

Americans being hesitant to go to Russia doesn't help the situation.

Expect more to say yes next year.

With it being in a different country next year and possibly group games in Paris, it will help a little but the big names will still turn it down, but the good role players will accept. Canada doesn't care much about this event but they do have superstars who will accept. Sidney Crosby when healthy goes to these tournaments. He takes great pride in it representing Canada. Guys like Kane, Kessel, Pavelski won't even consider going no matter the city and the US not having the same type of overall depth makes that sting more. Tavares if eliminated in the first round I feel will go. Never happens with the US.

Johnny Gaudreau says with his contract situation and the World Cup coming up he's not sure about going. That is all but a definite no from him. No surprise at all. Did not expect him to accept.

disappointed in all the declines.

but oh well. I'll just dream about Canada U.S. gold medal games at the WJHC or Olympics.

considering how young Canada is going with its team, seeing a GMG is not a guarantee this year.
