I've been posting this here for years saying the USA hockey needs to grow a pair and not let players who decline to play in the WC play in the Olympics or World Cup. But every year I get shouted down by bleeding hearts. It's good to see that there are a few people with some common sense. These prima donna babies get paid handsomely and get plenty of time in the summer for "family time". Do I need to remind everyone of the summer Kane passed on the WC because he was "injured", yet he spent his time passed out on bar tables? To me, I don't care if he won the Art Ross and wins the Hart, he would NEVER play for the US if I was in charge. The only way this changes is to give USA hockey the enema that it so desperately needs.

Two issues with this statement.

1- When the ""WORLD"" championships are being held at a time of the year when half of the world's best players can't participate because they are working at their main job, are they really world championships? Maybe this BS sells in Europe. It doesn't in North America.

2- If it is okay for a country to penalize a player when he won't play in a grade B tournament why shouldn't a player not be allowed to do the same? Just be thankful that someone like Kyle Connor still wants to represent his country despite USA hockey not giving him an invite to the World Junior's (best of the best), or the pooh bahs running the Hobey Bakers didn't want a freshman to win two years in a row. (even though his points per game were higher than the Eichel's, and this year's winner's were less than his own levels of a year ago).

Hello folks, is Galchenyuk going to play? I heard he is but I also heard he has been playing with a broken finger and will not be playing so it can heal. Anyone have the definitive scoop?

He has confirmed he will miss the WC because of his finger injury

Thanks for the info. Too bad, it seems that many of the players that would have made this USA team a fun and exciting team to watch are dropping out for one reason or another. As a hockey fan it is disappointing.

And Americans are normally people who want to represent their country so maybe it tell something what they think about this tournament...

.

Eh not really. The US couldn't get any big men to play basketball in London to the point where they had to take a college player. A super star college player but still a college player. Now that player is missing Rio because he wants to heal.

They take a B team to the World Cup. Their pitching staff for the world baseball classic is generally pretty awful. Whereas you have Matsusaka ruining his Red Sox career to win the tournament.

I'd Americans are particular awful at representing their country from major team sports. The only ones that really go all out no matter what are soccer players.

Hanifin confirms during his end-of-season interview that he will play in the IIHFWorlds.

No surprise with Faulk. He just got back from a significant injury and was clearly not up to speed to finish the season. He needs time.

Cool to see Hanifin going though.

Nice, at least someone, as always, I am looking forward to watch this young US team.

So who's officially confirmed?

G: Condon

D: Murphy, C. Wideman, Hanifin

F: Matthews, Maroon, Hendricks, Foligno & Compher

Is it correct?

What about Atkinson?

about as certain as it gets that Kyle Connor will be there, Bobby Mac pretty much stating as much...waiting for Steve Moses to be named soon as well

Or else its because USA only wanna show interest, in those things they arrange them self, it could seems like that, see NFL who is a league championship but they call the winner world champs, in hockey USA explain all the decline by players because its not best on best, well it is the all worlds best on best that are invited to the tournament, so that some countries then don't show up, is not IIHF faults

Hockey WC is not that big event in any ways. Most of sports WC have all best athletes but not in hockey. Specially Canada and USA can't use many of their best players because they play in NHL playoffs. Specially in Finland this tournament is always huge and to be honest i don't understand why because its only second tier tournament.

Any chance Frank Vatrano will be invited? 33 goals in 33 games are rather impressive, even if it is in AHL...

Providence play in playoffs so i guess Vatrano play for them.

Nobody on the 2012 Olympic team in London turned down an invite when healthy. At the time, the US didn't have great depth at PF/C and their best center available had back surgery. Nobody turned them down aside from that. The US likes to have a young guy fill out spot #12 on the roster as well to get them experience for tournaments down the road. US basketball players take playing for their country extremely seriously in the Olympics. Their WC team was sort of a B team but the best player in the world still played for them and they really only missed two top 8 ish players at the time. That tournament is picking in prestige and more players are playing in it now. The young guys will play for Team USA any chance they get. WBC is definitely a fair point but next year's team will feature likely the 2 best players in the world, so that's improving.

Yah no chance he leaves the AHL playoffs. Providence is pretty loaded for a run.

I thought I heard Krug said he was going again for the US..not sure if anyone in Boston can confirm, it was an interview after their season ended.

From the exit interview quotes it looks like Krug is leaning towards playing but there is no confirmation. Would obviously love to see Torey go over and play. Didn't sound like he needed any surgeries either like Krejci.

Its really exciting to see that Michigan line together in WC. Condon and Kinkaid are decent goalies but maybe biggest question mark for this team.

Possible reunion of the CCM line for one last go.

Kinkaid and Condon finished 63rd and 64th in sv% among all goalies in the NHL this season, so you could say it is a weak spot

USA Hockey officially confirms roster I have listed above. They have room for 7 more forwards. I think Vesey will take a spot, so that leaves 6 spots open. Hoping for some guys who are trying to make the WCOH roster or on young guns. Hoping JT Miller, Brock Nelson, Larkin fill out 4 of the final 6 spots. Gostisbehere as one of the final defensemen.
