I think Larkin/ Tyler Johnson, Gostisbehere, JT Miller, Brock Nelson, Nick Leddy would accept invites. They show up and the top lines would look much better. Gaudreau coming and playing on a line with Matthews would be incredible to watch but I'd be shocked if Johnny came. Even without him, those additions I mentioned would make for a solid team and drop the CCM line and the current NHL guys on the roster into roles more suited for them

Bro, don't tease me.

Maybe we'll luck out and see that in Calgary.

You think there's a chance Matthews makes the World Cup U23 team?

McD has a broken hand not a concussion. That said I highly doubt he goes if NY gets eliminated in the first round.

Thank you for the correction. Must have been a different Ranger that had the concussion issues.

Miller's on the World Cup team already, and he's an RFA. I would imagine he'd say no.

There are a few players I would like to see but have RFA status. Still my only issue is with the US goaltending. After some teams get knocked out we should know more.

Well he can't make the US squad so it's completely irrelevant. But I do wonder if he might have had a shot if this were a normal tournament.

as far as I know, if guys like Matthews, Trocheck, Galchenyuk, Trouba, etc don't make the u-23 team, then they enter the regular pool for Team USA...So some of these names will be in the mix for the US just not sure any can really make the team maybe Galchenyuk.

Where did you hear this?

Honestly haven't paid any attention to World Cup news

I have seen it multiple times on here and in the news, but again I drink a lot and can get confused but I believe the u-23 team gets "first" dibs, if not selected that US/Can player re-enters the pool...someone else might want to chime in if incorrect or not.

either way it is ******** and it pisses me off to see so many US kids not playing for their country. the u-23 team will be exciting, and hell I think finishes in the top 4 just on pure skill and young ignorance of not giving a ****...I don't want to see this again for the 2020 tourney.

Frankly I don't want to see any American Kids on that farce but it is what it is.

None of them are eligible.

Who is eligible to be selected for Team Canada and Team USA?

As North American players 23-and-under will be available for selection exclusively by Team North America (see above), each player for Team Canada and Team USA must be 24 or older by no later than Oct. 1, 2016 (i.e., must have a date of birth of Oct. 1, 1992 or earlier).

that is what I originally thought, but then a bunch of people were talking about the u-23 getting first dibs and then players available after..I see that multiple places.

honestly, this is such a **** fest, if this is accurate and a kid like Matthews or Glachenyuk can't crack the u-23 centers but could make team USA now can't because he is 23 and younger  ...so now a kid good enough to play for team USA and cant make the u-23 team doesn't get to participate, wow what a **** show.

The Gary Bettman Gong Show. You know, I'm a follower of the IIHF WHC, but never in my wildest dreams would I have believed that the IIHF Spring Skoda tournament would leap frog over the World Cup/Canada Cup as a tournament more important. I'm just speechless at how this could be so colossally screwed up.

I think I'll stop referring to it as the World Cup. In no other reality would I value the worlds over the World Cup. But sadly it has come to pass.

Yeah I never would have guessed that Bettman (I feel ill even typing that name) would have destroyed the world cup so comprehensively.

What he has done with the "young guns" is especially vile. Team USA is horribly weakened by that joke of a team (Canada less so), and I can only hope they are absolutely wrecked by Finland, Sweden and Russia so that horrible idea never again rears its ugly head.

You can thank the World Cup for that-in particular Young Gunz.

Eh, not really. The only one they really lost cause of it was Eichel but I'm not so sure Eichel participates if there wasn't a World Cup this year. Everyone else that turned them down either had contract issues or injuries(referring to the younger players and not Ryan, Wheeler or Dubinsky). Just bad timing with so many talented young American players heading into unrestricted or restricted free agency in the same year. Seth Jones and Johnny Gaudreau would be playing if it wasn't for them needing new contracts. A lot of players on the young guns for both Canada and the US want to play in this tornament, but has impacted the American players more cause they haven't gotten deals worked out. Combine that with Galchenyuk's injury. Just some bad timing and unfortunate injuries. Still think some solid players will agree to go after the first round but the team won't be as good as they could have been

I feel like this years team has a lot less pros than normal.
The team will usually feature 7-9 non-NHLers and maybe our depth charts should reflect that lol

This is and has been the nature of team USA at worlds. Also, the college students were chosen even before the professionals who got kicked out of the playoffs, which indicates that the NHL players kicked from the playoffs are the ones who fill the roster, and the college kids are predetermined. Not vise versa.
