Right, but both Eichel and Gaudreau (and Saad) are playing in the World Cup! Given your posts I think you have excised that event from your memory..... :sarcasm:

right, you mean the NHL pre-season exhibition...but since they would have been playing 6-8 NHL preseason games anyway without that meaningless September cash grab, playing in it doesn't necessarily dramatically increase the work load. so, it's an excuse, sure! but not really a valid one in my book.

I understand that players who'll be participating in the "World Cup" have no choice but this just makes me resent it even more. I was far more excited to see the young players in action at the world championships, playing for the international team they're supposed to be a part of.

I'm looking forward to the World Cup, but it is a shame that it's resulting in our WC team not being as good as it could be. I have a feeling we could have put out our best squad ever this year.

Except I doubt many of these players share your views on the tournament. Sure, the concept of the U-23 NA team and Team Europe is stupid and these players would rather play for their countries, but the teams exist and the players on them will still want to win. You can't compare these games to preseason action as these games will actually matter to these players and the intensity will be incomparable to a preseason game.

I surely hope guys like Eichel, Gaudreau, Jones, Hellebuyck, etc. still want to play here, but this won't be a normal off-season for them given the World Cup, even if the Bettman and co. turned what could have been a great tournament into a clown show.

I have noticed that when it comes to International hockey high end American players have no patriotism. Unless of course it's something like the "prestigious" Olympics, so they can get a medal for themselves. Whereas Canadian and especially European players routinely go over at most opportunities. This year I agree could of had a great US team but once again they don't go. But they'll be lining up for the Olympics.

The US is the worst but comparing Canadian enthusiasm to Europeans isn't remotely close. US and Canada are much closer than Canada and Europe in terms of players enthusiasm

Terrible 1st post! You haven't the slightest idea the reasons NHL players turn down the Worlds. There are many, many legit reasons why some Players cannot participate.

Ah man, this was the team I was most looking forward to seeing.

It was going to be the closest thing we see of the youngsters that'll be on Team USA 2018 all together on the large rink until the Olympics perhaps.

It's confirmed no Eichel and Gaudreau or what?

I hadn't read anywhere about Eichel not going.

If he didn't though it would be because going from NCAA schedules to pro schedules is extremely taxing. He played 40 games last year only on weekends. This year it was doubled, played every other day with a lot more travel. It takes time to adjust to it. It's why all NCAA players hit a wall part way through their first season.

Pacioretty's Russian wife can't even convince him to take part in a tournament in Russia??? Not that surprised, but you would think that if there was a chance for him to play, this would be the tourney...would have been a great opportunity to visit with the in-laws... I doubt we'll ever see Pacioretty accepting an invite to this tournament.

I hope USA wins this tournament this year. It's going to happen sometime, and it will be great when a typically depleted roster pulls it off. Also, disappointing that even young players are using the sham NHL World Cup as an excuse to pull out of this.

I'm sure you'll repeat this during a Canada USA Gold Medal game :P

I understand why some won't go,and I agree if you are injured or are in the last year of your contract there is a risk, I get that. What I am referring to is players like Kessel who don't go saying they are "tired" which is funny because I bet they wouldn't be tired for the playoffs! I'm just tired of watching team USA finish 5th, 6th and 7th etc. Looking at player availability this year they should have been able to ice a very strong team.

except for 2 bronze medal finishes the past 3 years.

so, there's progress.

lol at 19 year old and still developing hockey players believing they need to unwind after a whirlwind season. Jack needs to be playing games in May for championships until there are no more games left to be played.

but oh well, it is what it is.
