I think "relegation watch" is over. BLR is one the bottom 3 teams and winning one of these with 4 goals pretty much guarantees staying the main league.

So base goal reached, me thinks.

Yes unlike some I was never really worried as all we had to do was win one game or maybe two against Belarus Hungary France or Germany

Decent performance so far by the team. They were much more competitive in the game against Canada than the score indicated, and 2 of 3 goals against today were awful breaks for Condon.

Larkin is a treat to watch skate. Mercy is his stride beautiful. Larkin and Matthews are the horses up front so far.

Connor really picked it up today. He was great, as was Hinostroza. I know Vinnie is playing center, but I'd love to see him join the Matthews line in place of Schroeder.

Compher and Motte were so-so today, Connor was awesome, along with Matthews and Larkin. Hinostroza did some good things and Vatrano made some really great passes to set up goals. His addition has been really nice for this team. I haven't minded Maroon, honestly. His screen on Lalande set up that goal by Wideman and he nearly scored early on and made some nice passes. Would be nice if he stayed out of the blue paint with how it gets called in the IIHF and stopped taking penalties, but he hasn't been bad. He's done what he's needed to.

The defensemen were solid. Not many mistakes and did a good job clearing pucks and got involved offensively. Easily could have been a bigger margin of victory if not for a couple unlucky goals. Solid group.

I was impressed with Hinostroza today.

I didn't know much about him prior to the tournament other than him being a Hawks prospect.

Any chance he makes their team next year?

Well next game is probably going to be ugly but hopefully we get some goaltending and stop taking stupid penalties

It is quite fun watching Hanifin on big ice.

Hinostroza created some good opportunities.

Hanifin bounced back after a tough game against Canada. Looked much better.

That Hinostroza kid has wheels, he was flying out there.

You have to think he has a good shot with how tight against the cap they are going to be. They are going to need some cheap talent and he certainly represents that, though not sure how effective he will be down the lineup, but they could put him on a scoring line I guess.

Staying out of the box will be important. I hope they give Condon the start as well. I don't think they will puck watch as badly as they did against Canada again in this tournament. I am sure they got drilled for that in the video review session. Moved a lot better as a five man unit today.

With the Islanders eliminated what are the odds that one of Nelson or Leddy answers the call?

40% or so. Brock Nelson more likely than Leddy. Getting both would be huge but I won't count it. Hopeful that Nelson comes but if he turns it down, I think Shane Prince would accept an invite

Yes this team is much better than I gave it credit for. I thought the familiarity some of the smaller teams have would pay off but the great wheels of many US players makes a difference. They skated Belarus into the ground.

US made mistakes in the past taking veteran guys from the NHL and Europe in the past who weren't really motivated. With maybe an exception or two this team is all point per game NCAA and AHL players. So they have talent if not the name recognition and they are young and motivated to play hard.

Hopefully Nelson accepts an invite and either Leddy or Niskanen accept assuming Washington loses. Need some more puck moving defensemen and need a goal scorer beside Matthews. Schroeder just isn't very skilled. Connor was missed today, hope he'll be able to go soon. Good thing is they're off until Thursday. So, if they add someone, they'll be able to get a practice in before playing France

I think Larkin feels the same way. I have no idea why those two aren't playing together. I guess they're trying to play the matchup game? Not doing very well at it.

They're doing it cause they won't have a competent 2nd line center if they play together. That's why they need to add an NHL player so both players have legit wingers on their lines

The coach is trying his best not to overload one line. Best bet is maybe some players come over between now and Thursday. Puck possesion in the offensive zone is killing the US right now.

I think the defense has actually been okay. Not saying Leddy or Niskanen aren't obvious upgrades but I don't think Widman or Warsofsky have been awful.
