Pushing agenda, are we? Rask is MIA. The rest are reasonably exempt.

Finnish players go there for fun. The most important hockey of the year in Finland. Hopefully we can win all 3 IIHF golds this year. Would be great.
Uhhh...you're the one pushing an agenda. You went from giving bad reasons to giving no reasons. Plenty of RFAs will play, you know who else is an RFA? Teemu Pulkkinen, so nice going there. You failed to address my point about the RFA situational reality. You ignore the reality behind TT, and you dismiss Korpikoski by just saying that he's not very good. And now you keep insisting you're right with not evidence, not even bad evidence. Sorry, you gotta have the upper hand to call someone for an agenda, you can't be dropping arguments left and right and resort to trying to identify someone's motives.

I didn't realize that Connor is on this team. Pretty ridiculous that he was cut from the WJC team. Is there any chance that someone in USA Hockey will get some form of trouble for ridiculously cutting Connor from the WJC team, and the team then proceeding to perform poorly?

Wasn't it Ron Wilson's decision? Not sure there's much USAH can do with the retired coach.

Beauracracy, Beauracracy, Beauracracy. The USA Hockey board trusts ego maniacs like Brian Burke and Ray Shero. The best thing that could happen is have those two clowns gone with Lombardi and Tallon taking control.

And no there will be no consequences for roster mistakes like Connor not being at the 2016 U20. USA Hockey can't get out of there own way at times.

Pretty terrible game, just totally out matched, would love to see the possession #'s.

HAHA love this meme.

I mean look guys, we knew, with this roster that the key success would be:

great maybe perfect goaltending
stay out of penalty trouble
solid defense

We did none of those things right. But what I saw and I was at the game, was at least a team of guys that are there to play so the effort is there. Canada is just much much better than us in this tournament, so when you screw up multiple times, you are going to lose to a team like that 5-1.

Anyway while losing sucks, we all know the goal of this team is basically avoid relegation and hopefully get a quarter final game.

Play demko and pray he goes hasek this tourny

I actually thought the US looked fine. Aside from the points, game one doesn't mean a lot for these teams, especially the North American teams. Kinkaid didnt make a great adjustment to the big ice, you could tell he was a little lost in his net at times, but that's a small adjustment. The first 12-14 minutes of the 2nd period was all US, and they created some good chances.

Frankly I don't think the sky is falling after this game. Lots of room to grow without making a roster change.

Tut tut...Larkin, Matthews et al...The goal of this team is to medal, a la last year!

And they can do it Sans Doubt...BUT they gotta get better goaltending than we saw today...

The US was pretty competitive for significant portions of the game against a Canada team with more talent. Larkin and Matthews were really good. Some mistakes in defensive coverage and Kinkaid letting in some really soft goals made it look worse than it was. Canada was the better team but the US generating a lot of good chances, they just don't have the natural goal scorers that Canada has and that makes a big difference. With Washington and NYI about to get eliminated, Nelson and Leddy or Niskanen would be nice additions and make the team better. I'd expect this team will keep improving. So many young players going through a learning experience. Some of the defensive mistakes will improve. If they can have Demko in net, they'll make the quarterfinals and that's the goal with this group. Not overly concerned right now.

Why is the US roster so bad? Did every player decline to go? There are some players that wouldn't play for the Marlies so I have no idea how they are on team USA.

Pretty sure this question has been addressed a couple dozen times on this thread. Just scroll through for thorough answers and debates haha

That would be exceeding expectations. The main goal is getting out of the group stage.

I won't call tonight's game a must win, but seeing as Belarus is our main competition for that final spot, it's pretty important.

Geez Luise, that's like saying our main goal is NOT to embarrass ourselves! That , to me, is totally unacceptable

...I understand that u Yanks don't get a lot of participation from top line NHL vets at this event. Canada has the same problem. Still if u were to ask ANY TC coach, player , Hockey Canada official, yadda yadda...what their goal is? Their goal, from the get go, is to WIN every damn tourney they enter.

Aside from Russia by tourney's end maybe...No top Team has anywhere close to their best roster. So there's NO REASON why USAHockey et al shouldn't set as their ' main goal' the medal round, at a bare minimum...

Being satisfied just avoiding the relegation round is NOT a worthy goal for one of Hockey's Big Six ...That's what teams like Latvia, Germany, France, Kazakhs, Belarus, Danes, Swiss ( well u get the idea ) are hoping to accomplish.

If I were questioning potential candidates for Team red white and blue, and I heard a guy talk like u do...I'd say thanks, but NO THANKS

Last year, but for many spectacular saves by Bobrovsky, over the first forty minutes, that young Yankee squad woulda buried the Russians and been playing for gold. These guys, given comparable goal tending, are quite capable of comparable feats. And I'm sure they know that...

Sure. Our main goal is to win every game 5-0 and hold Putin down after the gold medal game and make him say "USA best hockey country ever!"

Most of these young gunz are former NTDP guys, with lots of IIHF hardware at home. Again to say they just want to avoid the relegation round is So-oooo Damn DEFEATIST...

BRING BACK A MEDAL BOYZ...

Just like last year...Just like 2 outa the last 3 years

Anything less, is UNDERACHIEVING/ Not doing a proud hockey tradition proud!

Avoiding relegation is the base goal. Like getting a C in your course. Quarterfinal is a B. Anything more an A

I think "relegation watch" is over. BLR is one the bottom 3 teams and winning one of these with 4 goals pretty much guarantees staying the main league.

So base goal reached, me thinks.

Team USA should never ever be playing in the relegation round. Making the QF's should be a given. Making the Medal round ( with a young but talented squad, in a Euro-centric tourney ) is a B.
