Now we can speculate about rosters.

I guess Bobrovsky, Varlamov, Sorokin is pretty much a given. And right now in my book it's Varlamov as a starter.

We have Tarasenko or Panarin, Anisimov and Datsyuk or Kucherov, Namesnikov, Nesterov guaranteed after the first round of playoffs in the NHL.

I would be surprised if it's Panarin, Anisimov and Kucherov, Namestnikov, Nesterov.

A better guess is Tarasenko and Datsyuk after the first round.

After that I actually expect Tampa to be out in the 2nd. Sorry, Tampa fans, but without Stamkos and Stralman I doubt they can beat a better team than Detroit.

I hear Malkin is expected to be back during the first round, so go whoever-can-beat-the-Pens.

I think we all expect the Caps to go deep.

I don`t know why Znarok recalled Bobrovsky after his bad season with long-term injury

Plotnikov - just facepalm.

Yakupov very angry right know, can help Russia with his energy and shot.

Kalinin got great experience in Devils, can play in dirty areas, especially infront of the net, he deserved invitation.

Waiting for Grigorenko, he had some progress in Colorado, played both center and left wing, had SH-time and good FO% for russian player.

Burmistrov in, M.Grigorenko not?

it's facepalm.
It seems that Znarok invites players to the national team only because of the fact that he had already worked with them, and not because of their level in this year.

Job scout terrible. The most amazing thing is that one of the scouts - Colorado fan.
Grigorenko this season has progressed well, especially in the defensive play. And he's play better than Burmistrov.

Igor Grigorenko and Nikolay Prokhorkin are officially out with injuries.

Znarok (or someone else from NT) already stated that he wants to find two more PK guys fot the World Cup, so I'm not exactly surprised by the call-up of Kalinin, Plotnikov, Burmistrov and Tikhonov.

About Mikhail Grigorenko, it would be good to see him, but do we really have a place at center for him?

The biggest question to me so far is why we need Yakupov? We aren't that short of wingers, unless there is some "minimizing the risks" thing again.

Another set of cuts: Buchnevich, Alyayev, Tkachev, Leshchenko, Ignatovich, Nalimov. Sharychenkov called up.

And yes, Yemelin is officially in.

Last year, it seemed as though Gold was lost on defense and in goal. I can't get excited about Burmistrov and Tikhonov, but it may be more critical if the D doesn't improve. Znarok was so badly outcoached in the GMG last year, and really, throughout the tournament. If he doesn't do a better job this year, I suspect they'll be looking for a new coach again.

Looking at the playoff bracket, it is very likely to get Tarasenko, Kulyomin, Datsyuk, Marchenko and Medvedev after the first round. Less likely, but still possible to get Malkin. Additionally, the second round will end somewhere around 10-th of May, when WC will be just recently started, so additions from there are possible too.

Even without the second round additions, it could look something like that:

Kulyomin-Malkin-Tarasenko
Plotnikov-Datsyuk-Radulov
Yakupov-Shipachyov-Dadonov
Kalinin-Burmistrov-Tikhonov

Yemelin-Marchenko
Medevedev-Zaytsev
+someone, who looks good at the camp

Bobrovskiy
Varlamov
Sorokin

Looks pretty stacked at FW, where I couldn't find place for Mozyakin, Gusev, Syomin and others. At D things are as usual. :)

Medvedev? Are you serious? He lost Brandon Manning battle for 6th defensive position. It means, right now Medvedev worse than Manning, who is no-brainer. Think if Russia will be completed by defencmen who is worse than Manning, Russia can come down in I division.

Datsyuk...His surgeon tell, that so many players who have same injury announcess their retirement. But Pavel didn`t, he played, he will play playoffs and this in 37 years old. I can`t imagine Datsyuk will play on IIHF WC after this season.

But.......It`s Znarok and you never know. He don`t need a Team, He need "Znarok`s band" with well-tried(for him) guys.

No Panarin, Ovechkin, Orlov, Kuznetsov, man. I'm starting to really appreciate Orlov too, a defenseman with major offensive talent. Hm, I'm hoping for a strong performance by the Russian team.

I used to get laughed off the caps boards for saying Orly was going to be a Green replacement. 8g 29 points and + 8 for 1/3 the salary, 60% of Greens ice time and almost no PP time (which is brain dead) vs Green 7g 35 points 6mill salary on the 1st PP unit - 6. And that was Orly's 1st year back from major injury, him and Kulikov will make an excellent top pairing for Russia for future years (both guys only 24). Too lazy to run the detailed stats but after eyeballing, it seemed Orlov might be the highest scoring defenseman/ice time in the NHL.

I agree, Grigo looked really good the 2nd half, he might also wasn't to get better acquainted with Radulov ;) ... just saying

Like the sound of that. Grigorenko really was one of the few bright spots on the Avs this year. If you need a defenseman you should take Zadorov too. Made some nice strides this year.

Don´t forget good ol´Ovi, he´ll be in Moscow faster than you can sak "I love Mother Russia more than a Silly Stanley Cup".

Oh, how charming! An Ovi-hater account with 1 post. Ovechkin is just a special player. He even makes people create accounts to bash him.

Medvedev is better hockey player than Manning. Thats not even debatable. Manning is better suited for the 6th role on the 3rd pairing. Or thats at least how Hakstol sees it. Manning is also more physical and has been developed in NA brand of hockey. Medvedev has struggled in this environment for most of the season but that doesn't make Manning better.

Medvedev would be still solid addition for team Russia. He's great puck mover and PP player with a good shot and shines on big ice.
