Is Paigin holding on by a thread to make the team> or is he an ok bet to make it?

There are still a couple of D-men in the Gagarin Cup playoffs. I will also partially depend on whether Znarok will pick both Emelin and Markov or only one of them or none. The Stamkos injury just made it even more complicated. There is a chance now Nesterov could take a spot. No idea how Znarok sees Medvedev. Then there is Marchenko.

You see, it's all in the stars still.

I think KHL has regular doping tests and NHL don't have meldonium, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Markov is doubtful to arrive though, as his wife will give birth to a baby around that time.

Does the KHL ban meldonium? the NHL doesn't. If the KHL does not have it banned it is likely most KHL players use it. that could cause a real problem for Russia's ability to complete in the World Championship.

As it was only banned as of January 1, the NHL wouldn't upgrade it midseason. But it will be on the NHL banned substance list as of next season.

I'd be surprised if North American players use this...but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

KHL is a subject to IIHF rules. Still I hope that they do some addtional testing before the tournament, just because this situation is so unseen and unpredictable, that every risk should be minimized.

FYI, all the tests will be done by the IIHF and analyzed in Finland since WADA doesn't currently trust the Russian anti-doping people (for known reasons).

How many positive tests does it take to nullify a team result at an IIHF event, 3?

This is going to be entertaining.

I mean, Russian hockey federation probably can make somekind of internal testing in an independent laboratory, I suppose that was what they did for U18.

I favor strict drug testing and control, but that fact that this protocol has only been in effect for less than 100 days, and the WC is being held in Russia, would suggest that Russia was being targeted if it resulted in mass disqualification for Meldonium use based on contract testing by WADA.

Once again, WADA doesn't do the testing, they only analyze them. IIHF does the testing in this case.

I recon heads will roll because of this. 17 y/o's shouldn't be mass-fed heart medicine...

Any news on the new players added to the men's WCH team today?

WADA cannot test NHL players (correct me if i'm wrong)

But they don't use, beacause meldonium is not on sell in NA/(west europe)
The NHL teams doctors must use another, an american equivalent to meldonium. Because I don't think hundreds and hundreds players in NHL, with hard trainings, play 3games/week without protecting they heart.

There is already a hint that some NT players will be affected. Considering the fact that it takes longer than originally thought for meldonium to leave the body there may not be enough time for some players before WC starts. I am hearing that there was an order from Putin to Mutko to stop looking for excuses, consiracy theories, but fully comply with WADA and simply remove players who may have used meldonium in the last 6 months with no questions asked.

Nope and that's going to cause problems with pre-tournament exhibition games in Europe. NHL has advised players to refuse tests but in Finland for example, refusing a test means automatic ban. This was covered a few weeks ago in Finnish media.

A.Belov, Chudinov, Yakovlev, Voynov, Zubarev, Gusev, Shipachyov, Dadonov, Shirokov, Buchnevich joined the team today.
