WC: 2016 Team Russia

Back to the news. My sincere congratulations to Magnitka. Their smart moves payed off. I like many had CSKA as a favorite to win it. Great series by MMG.

Now get through those tests and let's see who Znarok wants to have on the roster.

And outch, Chicago! We will enjoy the Panarin - Anisimov combo at WC, but I hope the Hawks still have fight in them. Tarasenko is a true leader though, really turing it up in the playoffs.

Unless there is an injury Znarok is just mad. Cutting Mironov and keeping all those guys is just nuts. I bet we will see some absurd names from the GC finals too. Znarok is totally out of concept with his D.
 
Weren't they cutting some NHL guys after a camp last years?

Or all invited made the team?°

P.S I really hope Radulov still come to NHL, even after a loss in the finals. :/

I was sure he would come if they won..

Why save Mironov in roster? And as everyone knows, in the end Dyblenko, Paygin Lyubushkin go home, and in their place will come Denisov, Zaitsev, Antipin. If Mironov stay, he's will go home after week.

He is no better than those who are now in the national team. At the last world championship Mironov was terrible, he was weaker than all players in Russia team.
 
Of the group Dyblenko, Lyubushkin, Mironov and Paigin, the only one who is a pretty good skater is Paigin (not saying he should be picked). Slow skaters who lack mobility are a real liability because they have to back in, back in, and then its really hard to get the puck out of the zone.

I officially have no idea who will stay and who will go home now. But I have this for you. If you think that Antipin should be on the team and Paygin shouldn't you obviously have no business evaluating players.

That is the point. Dyblenko, Lyubishkin, Yarullin should be gone before Mironov. And I don't see how Antipin, Belov or Yakovlev can help. Antipin is a midget with probably less offensive than Paygin. Belov is a stable mediocrity. Yakovlev stopped progressing and isn't actually really good an anything.

Znarok's idea of a roster is just absurd. Even if he wins the WC because the goalies stand on their collective heads and some star forwards outgun everyone he is destroying the future. Does he really think there is any future in Burmistrov, Tikhonov, Kalinin, Belov? They've had their chance to prove they belong on the NT and failed. I bet Zadorov for example was a much beter option to have a look at and obviously Grigorenko.
 
What future? Wake up! In Russia has always require victory in the World Championship, and especially on the home World Championship, no one cares give experience to youth player in the World Championship, only the result and it was the result of demand from Znarok.

And now for the players.
You want to give the young players more playing, so what's the problem, young players (Dyblenko, Lyubushkin, Yarullin, Paygin) will play an 2-3 extra match before World Championship?
Mironov such experience already enough, and these guys dont'have this experience.
If you watched the playoffs this season in the KHL, it was impossible not to notice that Antipin has improved a lot playing in a power struggle in the game at the gate, it is not just a shooting guard or quaterback, he learned to fight and playing in defencive zone.

And if you watched 2 matches against Slovakia, he would see that Yakovlev and Voynov were simply much stronger than all the other defenders of the team, and Yakovlev not stop to progress, just in SKA unlike Lokomotiv it does not have as much freedom of action and less time on ice (powerplay too). He is secure.

According to Zadorov, I was a fan of the Colorado and i will tell you so - until he understand that the loss puck in defensive zone are inadmissible, he will not playing in adult hockey. He was too much trust of himself and does not want to fix problems in his game. Now he does not need the national team.

would be ideal defense roster for that World Championship
 
I thought Antipin was the best skater and best puck handler among the defensemen at the 2015 WC. I really liked the way he moved the puck and was able to control it to get an effective clear out of the defensive zone. Speed, skating ability and puck handling are extremely important against the high quality of forwards that attack in the WC, and Antipin is as quick as any forward.

His biggest problem, IMO, is his physical size and inability to cope with big forwards who plant themselves in front of the crease. He was ineffective in clearing the big bodies from in front of the goal. But speed and puck control should be important criteria, and he think he has a good chance of being picked for the team.

Varlamov was great playing with no defence in front of him. Hats off to Znarok an his brilliant choices.:sarcasm:
 
I have the max. respect for Plotnikov and Tikhonov, but having them called for the home WC is inadmisible. The guys have scored what, two or three goals combined this season? They are clearly not in the best shape and I think they are stealing spots on more deserving players.
Kalinin played well this season and a good energy center is always a good addition to a team.
