Time for more roster projections.

Pittsburgh looks as though they'll make a quick exit, so anybody up for some M.A. Fleury adventures in net and overseas, à la WJHC 2004 Helsinki, Finland. Probably doesn't have much of a chance to make the World Cup team, therefore he may not be motivated for this B level tournament...but who knows, perhaps Sid inspired him last year.

T HALL C GIROUX J EBERLE
M HOFFMAN J TAVARES M STONE
M DUCHENE C MCDAVID N MACKINNON

M GIORDANO T.J. BRODIE

M RIELLY T BARRIE
J SPURGEON T MYERS

M.A. FLEURY
C TALBOT

That defence would be the best Canada has ever sent to this tournament, as pathetic as that sounds. Also, if O'Reilly is recovered from his recent injury, he has to make the roster. Since he is unlikely to make the initial 16 roster, he has something to play for.

I had a thought that I'm sure most wouldn't like. If the roster ends up putrid like the 2014 roster, why not pick Drouin? He's an elite talent (I'm a fan from his junior days) and has more to prove than anyone else, plus he could use the games.

I'm hoping too that he's back and will be onboard for a chance at a repeat.

I went with chemistry which sometimes Hockey Canada likes and sometimes doesn't. I put Mackinnon on his off wing because I admit I would like to see what he could do with McDavid who has pre existing chemistry with Eberle. Hamhuis often plays for Canada so I'm banking on that while I don't have confidence that Fleury will come. Talbot I think is underrated he's been very god for the Oilers he's just plays for the Oilers. I think Brandon Davidson should get the chance to play because he's been pretty great in Edmonton and I highly doubt he would say no to Team Canada

Brayden Schenn

42 pts in 60 gp (21+20). On pace for 57 pts.
27 pts in last 30 gp.

Team Canada could definitely use him again this year (in the case the Flyers are out of play-offs) and this time in better role than 13th forward. He's really elevated his game this season.

and also an RFA, so without a contract I doubt he would accept, but he was a good soldier last year and is having a career year this year, so, no objections from me.

I'm trying to think if there ever was an instance where a Canadian player was UFA/RFA and accepted a invite to play internationally. I can't think of one.

Nope. 2008 had (peak) Mike Green, Duncan Keith, Brent Burns, Ed Jovonovski, Jay Bouwmeester and Steve Staois.

I'm sure it's been said but I would appreciate if someone could tell me why it is required to name 16 players tomorrow? Why not just one day for the entire roster?

That looks better in retrospect than it was at the time, but it is probably better than defence I highlighted.

curious with regards to the D. Not sure if you see more Flames games, I don't see that many, but Brodie is a LHD playing RHD paired with Gio, but does he get any time playing LD with a RD?

just wondering, in the event player availability is not there, if a 1st. pairing of Gio/Subban followed by Brodie/Barrie would be a better option then just taking whatever available LD (Methot) accepts an invite just to pair him up with Subban. Of course Subban can play LD with Barrie RD as the other option.

I do hope Parayko becomes available though. The guy can play.

I wonder if Price is fully healthy and back for the last 5-6 games if he'd consider going to this to get in some reps.

P.K.Subban for sure on the team he is WAY better than Brodie,Giordano,Pietrangelo,Burns, last time i checked those defenseman 0 norris trophies.

It's very rare for a player with a serious injury during the season to participate in this tournament, among Canadians anyway. With a short summer due to the NHL's tournament in September, I would be very surprised to see Price.

That's not actually for this tournament, that is for the World Cup tournament which will be held in September. That is an NHL tournament, and this is an IIHF tournament. :)

yep. World Cup and the IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships are both often called as "WC". To make it more complicated, the IIHF tournament is often named WHC, while World Cup may be called WCH (from World Cup of Hockey).
