curious with regards to the D. Not sure if you see more Flames games, I don't see that many, but Brodie is a LHD playing RHD paired with Gio, but does he get any time playing LD with a RD?

just wondering, in the event player availability is not there, if a 1st. pairing of Gio/Subban followed by Brodie/Barrie would be a better option then just taking whatever available LD (Methot) accepts an invite just to pair him up with Subban. Of course Subban can play LD with Barrie RD as the other option.

I do hope Parayko becomes available though. The guy can play.

Brodie did play left side when Gio was injured last year, but seems to prefer the right side.

I'd love to see Davidson make this team in some capacity. Guy has been outstanding the past 30 games or more for the Oilers and even moreso in his past 10. Looks like a stud.

I love Davidson as much as the next guy, but we are not talking about the AHL all-star game here.

Easy there buddy... Davidson has yet to even play in 100 NHL games.

So none of Giroux, Hall, O'Reilly, Subban made the first roster. I expect them go the world championships, which would be great.

Duchene - O'Reilly - Mackinnon
Hall - McDavid - Eberle
Hoffman - RNH - Stone
Jenner - Monahan - Gallagher

Brodie - Giordano
Tanev - Subban
Savard - Barrie

it's interesting how most of the forwards in Team Canada are centers (or natural centres being slotted as wingers in their teams), while most are wingers for USA

What is the general consensus about PK? I am horribly biasd but to me it makes sense for him not to be on Team Canada. Sure PK can get points but Canada has a ton of skilled forwards for that. What Canada needs on defense are responsible and dependable players and PK is not that. Without question.

But as I said I am horribly biased, I really don't want PK on Team Canada.

agreed, rumblings always about being a problem in the room, never been a big game player, no thanks, not on Team Canada anyways..

outside of Montreal, I think most would agree...Pietrangelo all day over Subban....

Never been a big game player?

Do you even watch hockey? Serious question...

Great offensive player, in fact I love Subban, just not Team Canada caliber

Canada is so good we could have two teams, if we had two teams, I would probably put him on the second one for sure.

Mason/Talbot

Hall-Giroux-Duchene
Stone-O’Reilly-Hoffman
Gallagher-McDavid-Eberle
Monahan-Johansen-Simmonds
? ?

Brodi-Giordano
Subban-Tanev
Mayers-Ryly
?

Giroux and Subban left off the initial 16 World Cup team. Good. It will be good motivation for both players to call Hockey Canada and say give me a shot at the World Hockey Championship to prove my worth.

If they want on to the September team, then show up in April/May and get over to St. Petersburg/Moscow. and that goes for a few other players as well.

Canada is stacked as always, unfair man:laugh:

The tournament will be awesome. No bad teams, all best players, small ice etc.

Of topic, but I just cant understand people who say that this tournament is a joke and the Olympics is the only real best on best tournament, REALLY!?!?!? Are you a hockey fan or what!! Not once has there been a more competitive tournament in hockey, not once. Do people really like watching Russia wreck Italy 11-1 more than the epicness that this tournament will provide?

No offense but Giroux has nothing to prove to Team Canada. Just a slap in the face to him. Not sure why you wouldn't want the leagues leading scorer the last 5 years on your roster? Oh well it just makes rooting against them easier for me.

I think it is more of a slap in the face to Philly fans than to Giroux personally.... Every Canadian elite level hockey player knows the score when it comes to making Team Canada. and yes, if it were me making the decisions Giroux would be on the list of 16 before 3 or 4 others that were named yesterday. And yes, he has nothing to prove to Hockey Canada, but he should want to be there anyway. because a hockey player should want to be playing games in May right up until there are no games left in the season to be played. That's the way it is.

Giroux will be on the 23 man roster. no doubt in my mind.

Is it really that crazy to suggest Davidson could be the teams #7 or #8 defenceman in place of someone like Myers, Spurgeon, etc? He has been the Oilers best D this year and looks incredible lately. If he continues his play until the end of the year I could see him getting a call. Especially if one or two D don't want to attend.

No reason for Giroux to go. He's done enough already. Subban is probably in the same boat, but I can see him going.

Here's what I believe could be TC's roster at the World Championships this May: (rosters made according to NHL standings ATM + with consideration to what players were/weren't named to World Cup teams)

(Price), Mason, Bernier

Giordano - Brodie
Rielly - Subban
Ceci - Myers
D.Hamilton

I think the TOP4 is a lock and all will go. Cody Ceci and D.Hamilton (and maybe D.Nurse) are most likely in the bubble for NAU24 team, so I can see HC giving them a shot here to show themselves. I'm not sure about Hamhuis, given his situation in VAN. Murray may be on the team if someone is injured. He already made the U24 team and there are probably better option available, so I left him out for now.

Hall - Giroux - Duchene
O'Reilly - McDavid - MacKinnon
Monahan - Nugent-Hopkins - Stone
Jenner - Scheifele - Gallagher

The top-nine is a lock IMO and I believe they will all go to this tournament. Yes, very optimistic, but I have no reason to believe otherwise. I don't know what the last 4 players would be, but from the same reason as naming Ceci and D.Hamilton to my team, I think Scheifele and especially Jenner have a chance to make it. Gallagher imo deserves a spot, even if just as a 13 forward; to show what he can do internationally. And so does Brayden Schenn, who's having a great season and could be ideal 4th-line player.

I left out forwards Couturier, Eberle, Simmonds, Little, Kadri, Domi, Bennett, Ennis, Hoffman, Cammalleri, J.Staal, Henrique, and others, because 1) the roster is just too deep and 2) they are not really competing for their respective World Cup teams imo.

Overall, I'm absolutely confident that at least 15 players out of those 22 I named into my team will actually be on the official roster.
