Hamhuis is an interesting case, I don't mean for Worlds, but as a player, he might even be in contention for another spot in 2018.
He is a completely different player on the larger surface. He's dominating, his gap control, outlets, patience, he does it all. He was 7th defenseman in Sochi. He was number 1 in Prague and he with Burns just had the time of their lives.
He was born for that big sheet.
Hamhuis is ridiculously good on the international ice, like you said, and I was one of the few on here in 2013/2014 advocating for, and defending, his selection to the Sochi team on the back of his performances at his five World Championships appearances before then. Having said that, his time as an upper tier defensive defenceman appears to be over, unfortunately, and he's unlikely in my opinion to be an option for Team Canada going forward. The same can be said for Jay Bouwmeester. We should have several LHed D options ahead of those guys in time for 2018, or at least have a few of our elite RHed defencemen demonstrate an ability to play the left side.
On that topic, what the hell is wrong with Brodie?
