Marchand and Spooner can will go?

They can both go with Boston not in the playoffs. Hard to tell if they actually will go. Players can still turn down the invite, hopefully Marchand and Bergeron accept.

Sweden almost never have two of its best defencemen.

Fair enough - Sweden, like Canada, often has a putrid defence then.

Why Brodie and Gio would think they are too good to go and pass up on this is baffling (assuming both are healthy).

Burns and Ekblad went last year. Guys like Giroux, Crosby, Seguin, etc. went. They looked like they genuinely had a great time and were ecstatic when they won. There was some awesome hockey played last year.

With Boston out, really hope Bergeron goes. He's probably the favourite for the C.

Giordano is at least older, Brodie is still at the age when players typically attend this tournament. I hope that Hockey Canada removes them from consideration for the World Cup, especially since the results are irrelevant. Brodie should be trying this year to lock up a position on big boy teams in the future.

I really doubt that Bergeron will be there. He's got the NHL's tournament coming up, and he knows that he's going to be participating. Marchand will be interesting. I quite know about his history with this tournament, in terms of whether HC has asked him to attend before. He would be a good addition this year.

Another thing to keep in mind is the New York first round series. Pretty even series, though the Ranger are banged up. Add Tavares to the forward group and it look decently strong.

It's weird. You are more active in Canada thread than in Russia, why?

You can probably discount almost any player who is going to the World Cup already (maybe not Ekblad) or any player who is in his late 20s or older.

Any word or speculation on ROR yet?

dude is a rink rat, loves to play. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play considering he may aspire to a September roster spot on the NHL preseason exhibition tournament. So, I'm thinking he'll accept an invite, provided there are no lingering injuries.

Unfortunate news about MacKinnon. There still seems to be a chance for him, though.

"It's not feeling great at all right now," MacKinnon said. "You've got to be careful, because it could really mess up your knee if you push it."
MacKinnon will not need surgery on his knee, but he wasn't sure if he would be able to play for Canada in the upcoming world championships.

"If I can, I'd definitely be interested. But I definitely want to be pretty cautious," said MacKinnon, who has played in the tournament twice, winning last year.

Great news

Very nice.

Decent forward core. Something like this with the confirmed players....

Hall McDavid Eberle
Duchene
O'Reilly

Rielly Tanev
Ceci

Talbot

Obviously the defence needs to improve, but the group of forwards is nice. I'm not expecting much from the first round exits.

Unfortunate news about MacKinnon. There still seems to be a chance for him, though.

Also interesting. MacKinnon should probably take the time off if he isn't at 100% though... knees are serious. He should be extra cautious and skip the World Cup as well.

Unfortunate, but Nate would be smart to skip this year's WHC, as well as the NHL September preseason exhibition tournament.
It's very good to see players like Gallagher, Stone, or MacKinnon, who are affected by injuries, still having a serious interest of representing Canada despite that.

Right now I'm looking for Marchand :) after all, a 37-goal scorer, who is great at killing penalties too, would be huge for us. I haven't heard a word on Scheifele or Jenner yet, but I imagine they are pretty much locked. Monahan is injured though.

Tanev? lmao what a joke. Rather see Ben Hutton

Hope Mike Hoffman gets the call. Pure sniper with a lot of speed that will benefit from having more room on the big ice.

and also without a contract for next year. so, that sometimes tends to be the fly in the ointment.

Quite pleased about O'Reilly and Eberle.

I think O'Reilly can and must be a leader on this years team and say what you want about Eberle but he's a skilled guy and played well last year and has had some pretty big moments with a Maple Leaf on his sweater.

I'll take it.

Mcl sprain, hard to say without severity/grade of the sprain, but if it's minor but that could be healed, he's young, he'll heal pretty quick.

Think it was Hall who was suppose to be out 4 weeks with the same injury but came back in 12 or 13 days.

He'll literally have close to 6 weeks to heal with the time he's already missed, but doubt he takes the risk. Not sure about his contract situation.

Eberle just said In the oilers exit interview that he is not going to worlds

Kid's so loyal, no harm in missing this one.

I'd like to see younger players get a chance also then seeing the same players commit.

Perhaps a Max Domi, or Scheifele?

Think there'll be more additions after the first round then usual, lots of time this year.
