I'm pretty sure that one or two of Talbot/Smith/Bernier will be on the team, and then hopefully they wait for one goalie from the playoffs. Someone like Dubnyk from Minnesota, or Jake Allen from STL.

I thought smith has been injured?

Edit: Just checked, I was mistaken................he is playing.

I'd like to see something like this, up-front

it's without any playoff addition, or someone like Marchand/Giroux if their team is eliminated in the next few days. And assuming that MacKinnon can't go, and Monahan and Kadri won't because of their contract situation. Eberle is a question for me so I didn't include him neither.

O'Reilly - McDavid - Duchene
Hall - Scheifele - Stone
Skinner - J.Staal - S.Reinhart
Jenner - Henrique - Gallagher
Domi

I think that is a solid offence. McDavid is already a super-star player that could comfortably center 2nd line in World Cup Team Canada. O'Reilly, Duchene, and Hall are all elite players in discussion for the WC team. This should give us two very dangerous line at least. Don't forget that Jenner scored 30 this year, Stone has 61 points, Skinner with 28 goals, Henrique with 28 goals, Scheifele with his phenomenal finish and another almost 30-goal player. Gallagher is a great role-energy-player, scores important goals. Players like Reinhart/Domi/Duclair would bring the element of youth and youthful hunger for success, and this tournament would give them experience for possible olympic particiaption in their careers.

I hope we can do better and will add players like Monahan, MacKinnon, Eberle, or Marchand, Tavares, etc. In that case I'm super excited, because that would be another super-team. But even if it's not happening, the offense I listed would be on a top level and every line would be able to produce, which is very important, so I'm really confident.

Interesting and positive news about Stone. What is your concern about Eberle?

I was thinking that after winning the gold, and also after his injury early this season, he could theoretically take a free summer, which I would definitely understand. He was 50/50 for me for that reason, so I rather let myself be positively surprised. :) .....

Hall says he's onboard for a shot at a repeat. so, that's good news.

.... and I am. That's a great news

It appears likely that center Boone Jenner and defenseman Ryan Murray will be invited to join Team Canada, but both said they haven't yet committed. They appear to be leaning that way, however.

good thing for the US that Foligno accepted. Saad didn't, but I can understand why, as he gives his reason in the article.

Dubinsky?

I think he will accept, and Atkinson and Jones too, and they have been invited, but so far nothing else is known.

Has anyone had a chance to actually watch Jenner and Murray? Are these guys fast? Smart? Jenner seems to be to be more of a power forward.

Good news about Hall.

Murray is a very good skater and plays a smart game. Jenner is only adequate in those areas, but he's good enough for this level of competition. Doesn't bode that well that players who are presumably low on the depth chart like Jenner and Murray are only considering going.

Murray is a really good skater, and is developing into a top-notch defender. He's probably somewhat limited offensively, though, but could still fill a spot in a top-4 if paired with a more offensively-minded D-man. If he reaches his potential, someone like Vlasic would be a reasonable comparison. Unfortunately he's been held back by a series of injuries over the past couple of years, but put in a good, full year this year. As he's a quality LHed defenceman, he's a viable candidate for future Team Canada's.

Jenner is a good player; good skater for his size, probably best suited to a bottom-6 wing position on Team Canada. He's not a shut-down center, but he is a developing power forward and that would be an apt description. Infamous for getting kicked out of two consecutive World Juniors, so may not be on the friendliest of terms with IIHF refereeing.

i want to see jenner play in big ice

No room on the team for Bo Horvat? I believe he said he'd love the chance to go. Obviously you'd need a bunch of other guys to decline for him to get in but he could be a good add to the mix.

I would imagine that he is very, very far down the depth chart.

Cam Talbot is confirmed to be one of the goaltenders for Canada.. Nugent-Hopkins declined the invite. No word on Eberle yet.

We really have no depth at this position

Why cant we put in a player like mat oconner. The americans put college kids and they seem to play well on big ice, why cant we

I have no confidence in talbot

Matt O'Conner had a bad year in the ahl. .912 save percentage and 3.12 gaa.

Now Bingos defense didn't really give him much help at all being that the defense was awful, but i can understand why they wouldn't choose O'Conner for the team.

dodged a bullet with RNH declining. I'm not even sure why he would even be considered at this point, after an unproductive, injury-riddled season...he'd be better served to take the entire summer off, recoup, recover and get his head on straight. If TC would like at least a chance at repeating we need better centers than RNH. Hopefully he comes back next year and finally leads his club team out of the wilderness. but my guess that is more up to McDavid than RNH.

don't want to be harsh on the kid, but he made the right decision. Head to a secluded beach for 8 weeks for some R&R. Enjoy your summer.

What's wrong with Cam Talbot? He's the best option right now for Team Canada. Last years team had Mike Smith in goal, they should be fine. Talbot is solid.

RNH - reasonable that he refused. He knows what's better for him at this point.

Great to hear about Hall and Stone. What are the chances with Subban? Tournament is still far away, he could be fully healthy by the time the tournament starts.

there's nothing wrong with Talbot. but if Smith wants to come back again, I'd give him the starters role. He was surgical at handling the puck on big ice last year. Even the great Hasek was in awe. If Smith takes a pass, then I'm fine with Talbot getting the #1 spot.

Agreed, if Smith is good to go and wants to go, he deserves to get the call, no doubt. But he was dealing with some injury this season so who knows.
