I am not really concerned about this team and we really shouldn't be. It will be good team anyway. Even going without Giordano and Brodie, which is still unofficial and they haven't made the final decision yet, the team still has the potential matching the last year's team. At the end, I believe the offence will be strong and the D should be on a very good level even without the Calgary boys.

i think you guys gonna have great team again
and i'm expecting similar trashing this year what was last year

:help: for us others in the tournament

may 8th: Hungary vs Canada

It could be a good team but I doubt you see as strong an entry as last year which was really a Dom Perignon year in terms of offensive talent that was available and accepted the invite.

That remains a question. I guess there is nothing to say really until we see the first group of players.

3, double digit round robin wins is possible i think for you guys
vs Hungary, vs Belarus and vs Germany

Well, if we go by history I highly doubt this: Canada doesn't very often shine in the early games and especially against self-evidently weaker opponents. The teams in the couple of last years have been pure poetry, but their amazing quality was fully evidenced against the other big hockey nations, not the midgets.

Unlike some of the other supers, if canada knows you're weak they'll usually go easier on you, treat you as a test run or a warm up game. That being said, a close game against Hungary is probably double digits.

going off yesterday's news of TC GM, Treliving having no influence over Calgary players' wish to jump on a plane and head to Russia in May, here's my new wish list.

going off a few assumptions:

1. Islanders lose in the 1st. rd. and Tavares accepts the invite.
2. San Jose ends the reign of terror of the L.A. Kings in convincing fashion and Jake Muzzin convinces Doughty that last year was a blast, let's do it together. (wishful thinking) and Chicago takes out St. Louis.
3. players currently on the i.r. Mackinnon, Stone etc. are all done for the season and decline.
4. Philly makes a quick exit but no Giroux.

T HALL J TAVARES T TOFFOLI
M DUCHENE C MCDAVID J EBERLE
B MARCHAND R O’REILLY M SCHEIFELE

Dream team:)

Dream team:)

hardly a dream team, but good enough to compete for a Gold medal at that tournament, provided of course they have the proper coaching and motivation.

and I'm not particularly convinced that our coaching staff this year is up to the task.

but it is what it is.

Good luck with getting Doughty. Other than Tavares I would be shocked to see any player already named to the World Cup participate.

ya, I'm aware. but he's tight with Muzzin, so maybe Jake has been speaking glowingly about last year's ride and convinced Doughty to rethink his position on this tournament.

wishful thinking, but that's all we have to go on at this point. Hockey Canada is going to leave it up to a McDavid just like they did to Sid back in '06. If I were McDavid I wouldn't be so quick to sign on for this.

Theoretically Stone and Subban could play at the World Championships.
A year ago, the same situation was with MacKinnon

Even if it is McDavid with a bunch of crap, that's a good thing for his development (avoiding Oilers joke). It certainly didn't hurt Crosby following 2006.

That's a good point regarding MacKinnon's situation last year. It's still possible to get Stone, Subban or MacKinnon again.

Nah, we're most likely looking at the usual 6-1, 7-2 type victories in these games.

Last year's WHC team was something special that we likely won't see again any time soon.

Scheifele with 17 goals in the last 25 games, and 33 points. I read somewhere he's in TOP5 in NHL scoring since February, with players like Crosby, Thornton, McDavid. He would be a great, great piece for this team

Never been a big Scheifele booster, but glad to see his progression...although I'm still not convinced he can be that #1 number 80pts+ center, he seems to be trending in that direction. In any event, he's a welcomed addition to the group heading to Petersburg for the WHC.

It's good that these players like Scheifele, Jenner, Stone, or even Gallagher, Hoffman, or Henrique, they all had a good/very good season, so even if some top guys didn't go, we should still be good enough...if the guys mentioned above ends in our 3rd or 4th line, then I think it's a sign of strenght.

Me neither, but it is pleasant to see him starting to arrive this season.

Getting anxious, not a single player confirmed yet.

Like I said in a post on the last page, no players were confirmed last year until the 14th. Nothing to worry about yet. Coaches just got named, and we should know first who gets in in the East before we start naming players, that could make a big difference.

God, if Giroux goes to this and then doesn't get named to the World Cup team I'd be so mad for him.

I think Giroux is a given for the World cup team, cannot see how they could leave him off.

Who are we looking at as our goalie starter this year anyway? Talbot?

last year the first confirmed players were showing up like a week from now I think... :)

I'm pretty sure that one or two of Talbot/Smith/Bernier will be on the team, and then hopefully they wait for one goalie from the playoffs. Someone like Dubnyk from Minnesota, or Jake Allen from STL.

I'd like to see something like this, up-front

it's without any playoff addition, or someone like Marchand/Giroux if their team is eliminated in the next few days. And assuming that MacKinnon can't go, and Monahan and Kadri won't because of their contract situation. Eberle is a question for me so I didn't include him neither.

O'Reilly - McDavid - Duchene
Hall - Scheifele - Stone
Skinner - J.Staal - S.Reinhart
Jenner - Henrique - Gallagher
Domi

I think that is a solid offence. McDavid is already a super-star player that could comfortably center 2nd line in World Cup Team Canada. O'Reilly, Duchene, and Hall are all elite players in discussion for the WC team. This should give us two very dangerous line at least. Don't forget that Jenner scored 30 this year, Stone has 61 points, Skinner with 28 goals, Henrique with 28 goals, Scheifele with his phenomenal finish and another almost 30-goal player. Gallagher is a great role-energy-player, scores important goals. Players like Reinhart/Domi/Duclair would bring the element of youth and youthful hunger for success, and this tournament would give them experience for possible olympic particiaption in their careers.

I hope we can do better and will add players like Monahan, MacKinnon, Eberle, or Marchand, Tavares, etc. In that case I'm super excited, because that would be another super-team. But even if it's not happening, the offense I listed would be on a top level and every line would be able to produce, which is very important, so I'm really confident.
