Btw, Mark Scheifele was the best NHL goal-scorer in March (11 goals), and second in points (19) behind Crosby (21).

Bill Peters is a great coach, coached with Babcock in Detroit and he coaches just like him. Carolina plays just like how Toronto and how Detroit used to play.

this is 5 days back, I didn't notice till now, players in contention for the remaining 7 spots for World Cup team:

In the video, Pierre LeBrun says that all the available players will be asked to go to the World Championships - he specifically highlighted Duchene, O'Reilly, Hall, Stone, Gallagher, and Giordano, Brodie, and Subban. He also says that there is a link between the World Cup and WHC, as it would improve players' chances to make the World Cup team if they did participate at the worlds. He also mentioned that Doug Armstrong, the GM of World Cup team, is in direct contact with the two co-GMs for world championships.

Montreal can't really stop Subban if he wants to go.

I'm hoping P.K. gets in a game or 2 and is fit and ready to go...

As for Gallagher... nice addition on RW as well, but with the possibility of a Marchand Bergeron Gallagher line...it could be a nightmare for the opposition as well as for us. Those 2 on 1 team? I'd gladly take one, either or, but not both. But then again, it's just the World Championships and not all that important...both players have got to eventually see some action on the Big Boys team. and may as well be this year.

Cool to see Bill Peters named coach. He has done quite a nice job with obviously limited personnel in Carolina.

I wonder if this increases the possibility that Skinner plays in the tournament. He has been fantastic lately.

I am expecting Skinner. He's good enough to make the team, has played in this tournament several times and as you say Peters certainly can't hurt.

I'm not a fan of that selection. but oh well...it would seem inevitable that his coach would select him.

I am expecting Cam Ward and J.Staal

Staal has been very good this year. Much better than he's ever looked in Carolina. Managing to produce well while taking on the toughest matchups with low-end linemates.

Ward will be a UFA (please don't re-sign him Canes), and he's awful in the first place.

"The uncertainty surrounding Stone’s status could also play a role in whether he plays for Team Canada at the world championships in St. Petersburg, Russia.

While representing his country in the tournament would enhance his chances of also playing for Canada at next September’s World Cup, he will also consider whether the chest injury could be made worse by playing overseas."

Yep, Staal and Skinner from Carolina. I would say that Staal wants to end the season on a good note, especially when his individual season has been pretty good + obviously, his own coach will be there. Great player to have in defensive role for this tournament.

Ward no, but good call on Staal. Staal would also bump O'Reilly up into a scoring role (likely as a winger) and that is something I am very interested in seeing. I still want to see:

O'Reily McDavid Eberle

assistant coaches were named. Cameron. not a fan. Yeo. indifferent. and Hockey Canada's analytics guru Misha Donskov. also not a fan.. Scott Salmond's inside stool pigeon.

overall, not liking the way this is taking shape.

Cameron from Ottawa and Yeo from Minny I take it?

Not a fan of Skinner, I'd rather take Ennis again or have Gallagher. To have all 3 seems redundant.

In my opinion, one of Skinner/J.Staal makes it, at best.

The way I see it:

  • Connor McDavid, Taylor Hall, Ryan O'Reilly, Mark Scheifele, Matt Duchene, Sean Monahan, Brendan Gallagher are all likely to be on the team, at least that is my feeling about this.

  • Stone will definitely be there if he's healthy. The same applies to MacKinnon, I don't see him refusing an invitation if healthy.
  • Boone Jenner is coming from a 30-goal season, and is definitely going to be on HC radar
  • Jordan Eberle is a maybe for me, but I'm more of an opinion that he will go
  • Brad Marchand is a lock to be on the team imo if the Boston aren't making the playoffs. He's clearly among the players battling for a World Cup spot, Hockey Canada will definitely ask him and in that case, he will almost 100% say yes.
All in all, that's 12 forwards. In this situation, there might not be even a room for one of Skinner/Staal, let alone both, if we add someone from the playoffs, which is very likely imo.

So he will be Video Coach once again. What's the deal? Why are you not a fan of him?

I would not be surprised to see both tbh.

nice bullets. I look forward to the PowerPoint presentation. it better include video.

sorry, didn't see the question.

It's not that I'm not a fan. When NHL personnel are running the show, I'd rather Hockey Canada personnel not be involved. stick to what they do best...and that is U17, U18 and U20 tournaments. And considering their record over the past several years, they don't do that very well.

I am not a fan of the current group of deep thinkers (and I use that term loosely) occupying Hockey Canada offices in Calgary.

Alright then, thanks for your answer.

Why is no one talking about Sean Couturier ? (if assuming his team doesn't make playoffs)
