Jenner,Brodie, Gallagher, Duchene, MacKinnon possible.

The Caps will be making a long playoff run. No Kuznetsov, Orlov, or Ovi for the Russian team.

ya, I'm not convinced that they won't be there...and the Russians will keep a private jet fueled and running waiting to takeoff 3 hours after the Caps bow out yet again. Who would they meet in the 2nd round, Pittsburgh? The way Sid and the Penguins are playing, that's not shaping up as a sure thing for the Caps.

Loking at the available/realistic forwards, it's interesting how many two way goal scorers there are and how few playmakers there are. Usually Canada has more playmakers available and fewer players oriented toward goal scoring. Could be interesting for team composition.

speaking of two-way goal scorers, Stone got steamrolled last night. not sure the extent of the injury, head or shoulder...but I was looking forward to seeing what he could do. Hopefully he's ok and good to go.

Hopefully he's fine. Looking at the hit I would imagine that he is. Stone is one of the players I am most interested in seeing on the big ice.

I would be super, super happy with that lineup. Which probably means we won't get it.

I am from Czech republic, obviously I root for our team but I amost always cheer for Canada too... and I hope for the best possible Canadian team this year, since I am mainly huge hockey fan so I want to see high-end teams on this tournament... and also I bought tickets to the last preliminary game which will feature Canada and Czech republic (they definitely were not cheap given the fact that it's only a preliminary / friendly game ), so I want to see damn good Canadian team!

ya, Marchand would be Boston's only contribution this year. Bergeron would be nice as well, but that's overreaching a bit. but a 3rd line of Marchand O'Reilly Scheifele sounds ok. or move O'Reilly up and insert Monahan and see what happens.

I doubt Bergeron goes, have my doubts about O'Reilly too with his injury this year and all but he might see it as a way of cementing his inclusion on the World Cup team.

Would be surprised if Duchene and Mackinnon go, would think Colorado management just wants them to heal up.

Team Canada will be relying on Mcdavid an awful lot for it's whirling dervish aspect of the team this year.

I hope Hockey Canada gives him much more to work with than they gave Sid in '06 in his rookie year. I was in Riga for that tournament. Enjoyed watching Sid light it up, but disappointed in Hockey Canada. They could have and should have done better. In the end, drinking with the Latvians was a blast.

I am concerned about this too. you know, I am not even sure a guy like Hall will show up this year. I tend to think he will take the attitude of " I have done my part already" and beg off with the nursing nagging injuries line.

Our guys just don't value this tournament the way the European players do and tend to think when they have played a couple and especially won one think "been there done that, time for the new guys to step in, as for me, I am heading off to the Bahamas with the girlfriend"

If the thing was being held in Paris it might help but .............it's in Russia.

Sorry about any offense Russian fans, but taking the girl to see the sights there just doesn't hold the same allure for us, rightly or wrongly.

This version of team Canada will have to grind things out a lot more then last years version methinks.

I think the best hope this year is to have a nice, steady and mobile defense group that can move the puck up ice competently and quickly.

I am concerned about this too. Last year it was Prague, and everyone would love to spend some time there, I suppose. Great city, country, organization, fans, weather... Not so sure about Russia and Moscow. I am convinced that some US and Canadian players do care about destination for this tournament. And it could have kinda big influence on their decisions.

As much as I know Prague is a great place, I am not sure how much that helped get us players last year either. Prague and it's charms really isn't all that well known to many Canadians and even less to hockey player Canadians, who do not tend to be the most well rounded individuals if you know what I mean. You would be surprised at how little it is seen as a "place I have to go to" by traveling Canadians.

The average Canadian with some bucks to go do some traveling are still thinking sandy beaches in Mexico and hot spots in the U.S such as New York,Florida,Vegas and the like. And of course places like Paris, Athens, etc too if you really have the bucks.

Prague is not really on the radar(if they have even heard of it, i'm serious!!)

I bet if one of our players told his wife or girlfriend that he was going to play for Team Canada in Prague and would she like to come the first thing out of her mouth was probably...."Prague, wheres that?"

The average Canadian is still fairly thick when it comes to it's cultural cosmopolitanism.

Corey Perry's replacement at tournaments that matter?

Different roles. Perry is there for an element of crease crashing and as a compliment to Getzlaf. Stone is a defensive winger who scores goals. I see him replacing Carter/Nash.

1st round exit.

I think this is very close to what we will eventually see. Hopefully anyway. Big issues are the health of MacKinnon and Duchene, though Duchene has proven to have a good attitude with regard to representing Canada. I am hopeful that the World Cup helps. I am also skeptical of Subban the longer he stays out. Ryan Murray is a guy that Hockey Canada loves (consistently making him a leader at international tournaments in the past) and he finally had a healthy season. I think he's nearly a lock to be on this team.

I doubt Bergeron goes, have my doubts about O'Reilly too with his injury this year and all but he might see it as a way of cementing his inclusion on the World Cup team.

If O'Reilly was even close to significantly injured, presumably Buffalo would just shut him down and let the losses pile up. Have to think he's good to go.

Not sure if Prague was a big selling point, but they players did rave about the city during and after the tournament. Russia may be a negative due to reputation, but it's hard to say. The biggest carrot that Hockey Canada has for this year is the World Cup.

If O'Reilly was even close to significantly injured said:
I'm sure he is good to go but being out as long as he was and just coming back at the end of the year is all the excuse you need to beg off this tournament. It sounds like you are optimistic concerning his participation, I am hoping it is warranted as we will really need him to defend this thing and I really do want to defend this thing. Have we ever done it in the modern era at the worlds? I don't think we have off the top of my head.

Would be really sweet, especially in Russia.

If Boston doesn't make it or gets eliminated early, I can see Bergeron going, he said he would have gone last year IF they asked him. Could depend on how the team is shaping whether or not they ask him. Would be nice to have him there. Instantly gives you a shut-down center that will chip in offensively.

2003 and 2004

unless you are so young you don't consider that to be the modern era.
