Lowry didn't get the best out of anybody.

I do hope you realize I was goofing...

or maybe you were goofing and it went over my head.

anyway, it was all reductio ad absurdum.

Yeah, just trying to play along here. Your first point re: Lowry is 100% true of course.

If this team can manage to get Lowry AND Virtanen, they'll cancel the tournament and just send the gold medals our way boys.

Joe Hicketts would help too - PK, PP, ES, playing all 5 minutes of a 4-on-4 OT...the guy is just so versatile.

it's official, Nigel Dawes and Dustin Boyd will play for Kazakhstan at this year's WHC. American Brandon Bochenski will also suit up the Kazakhs.

I hate seeing that. Is there any information out there on how much $$$ there is for such patriotism?

Nope, nothing was said on $$$ and how much the Kazakhstan Hockey Federation had to pay, but I hope it is a sizable chunk into their retirement funds. I certainly don't mind hockey players representing their adopted homes if the opportunity presents itself, but being a hockey mercenary is not something I agree with...but it is what it is. Kazakhstan can't produce 22 players to ice a national team, the league they play is of no use to them whatsoever in assisting in that development, therefore they have no other choice but to resort to nationalized players.

They play for the national team for free!

don't be so naïve. financial incentives were part of it. I'm sure they are just itching to play 7 or 8 more games to try and fend of relegation of Kazakhstan to Division 1..and for free, sure! because that's so important to them.

let's end it here. it's way off topic and this is a Canada roster thread.

Myers out for the season. scratch him off the list.

too bad. He looks to be doing well in Winnipeg.
Uh...that's a shame. I like him and everytime I see him he's playing good.

Fortunately, an absence like this shouldn't hurt us at all this year.

Subban said he wants to play at the WHC, he'll be a good #1 D.

He said that before he got injured. Has he said it since? It would be good to have him, but it's getting pretty close to the end of the reg. season, and if he's not back soon, then it's unlikely.

Yeah, I would assume pre injury he was in 100%, but if he's not back yet it puts that in jeopardy. Granted there is still more than a full month before the tournament.

With some teams already eliminated I imagine that we will start hearing names for this team near the end of this coming week. It should be interesting to see who shows up. Usually if the teams starts off with some strong names it gets the ball rolling and good players are more likely to show up later.

According to a Montreal based reporter, it is only if his health allows. So I shouldn't say 100%, in practice he looks fine and is playing at full-speed. I think he'll play a game before the end of the season and even if he doesn't, I think Montreal is just playing extra cautious after the screwed up Price.

I'm not sure if there's enough room for them, but I will be pleased if one of Max Domi or Sam Bennett is named to this team. They would be fun to watch.

I think it's best to limit the amount of rookies this team takes. You want a young team, but not a totally young team. The teams in the past that have had really good rookies, haven't done great. The core and the leadership and the heavy lifting should all be done by experienced players, with maybe a 2-3 kids that can chip in.

It depends on who agrees to go. This team will always skew to the younger side, but there is definitely a right mix that can be achieved. We want young guys to develop for the future, but it's better for them to develop in an environment where they can contribute to winning.

McDavid will be there. I suspect that Reinhart will be there. Outside of that there aren't many rookies who will be in contention. Possibly Bennett with his NHL GM in charge of the team, or possibly one or both of Domi and Duclair could be invited.

Looking more likely with each passing game that Chicago is 1st. rd. fodder for the Blues. Excluding Towes, who gets a pass and deserves a full summer of R&R, who might take up the challenge? Keith? unlikely. Realistically, other than Shaw, the end of Chicago's season doesn't do much for us. Perhaps Seabrook if he believes it will help land him a spot on the September All-Star O24 Exhibition team. If that's important to him..

No idea. I don't buy that St. Louis is going to walk all over anyone though. Toews can easily say no if he wants and Hockey Canada will be happy that he even answered he phone call. Keith is in the same situation, but he did agree to go after Chicago's first round exit in 2012. I would say slight chance, though his personal situation is different now and he does have another tournament looming later in the summer. Seabrook would be decent, but there is no history of him participating. I believe he got married in the summer of 2012 when Keith went.

There is lots of interesting potential among defencemen who may lose out in the first round. For instance right now San Jose and St Louis would play in the first round. That could yield Pietrangelo or Burns, with both in tight to make the roster for the other tournament later in the summer. Could be good.

I believe the match ups will be.

St. Louis v Chicago
Anaheim v San Jose

San Jose is one of my many adopted teams, so I hope they go on a good playoff run, but if things go awry AGAIN, then I hope we can land a few Sharks. Burns and make him the captain.

Detroit missing the POs really doesn't help much either. Mike Green I guess, but I prefer Barrie or even Ceci over Green.

If anyone has seen Colorado's last 5 games, they're all against really good teams, so there is a good chance they don't make it. It'd be nice if Barrie says yes again. Not sure if he will, but he'll likely be available.

I doubt Duchene and Mack go if they're already currently injured, but you never know. Duchene seems to like going and has a good attitude about it. That's a guy that could fly with McDavid.

Marchand should be a go if boston does not make it right?

Gotta think he would say yes.

ya, Marchand would be Boston's only contribution this year. Bergeron would be nice as well, but that's overreaching a bit. but a 3rd line of Marchand O'Reilly Scheifele sounds ok. or move O'Reilly up and insert Monahan and see what happens.
