Jordan Eberle is a right winger and Cammalleri LW and is currently on IR and has been for quite a while, so even if he comes back to get in a few final games of the regular season he would want to take the entire summer to rehab..and besides, you were told already, at this stage of his career and Hockey Canada's approach to the WHC, it's unlikely Hockey Canada would want to include him. He hasn't played a game since Jan. 26th. And besides, from New Jersey roster I'd much rather have Adam Henrique than Mike Cammalleri.

Mark Stone plays RW and Hoffman LW. stop inverting players out of their normal positions.

Again, Gallagher is RW, Monahan a center or LW. O'Reilly is a center or LW but should play way up in the line up and not at the bottom of it.

I can on about your D selections, but enough for today.

Marchand could to go to Russia for the world championship?:)

Perhaps. As far as Left wingers are concerned this year, only Hall and Benn are better. but at this point it is unlikely he'll be available. Currently it looks to be a 1st rd. match up against T. Bay, and I pick Boston to win that series. Unlike Russia, Hockey Canada will not max out on its 25 man roster adding players as they become available right up until elimination games, a 22-23 man roster will be named when the tournament starts on May 6th and that's what Hockey Canada will go with.

if this dream scenario happens

Tavares - Giroux - MacKinnon
O'Reilly - McDavid - Eberle
Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Monahan
Duchene - Scheifele - Stone

Giordano - Brodie
Rielly - Subban
Tanev - Barrie
Murray/Myers

then it's a stronger team than the one last year. This is very optimistic though. Let's wait and see. Though given the World Cup, I wouldn't be surprised to see the big names - if available.

Who are the players losing in the 1st round of the playoffs SC can go to go to the world championship?:)

About the only thing Burke got right in his time in T.O. He's looking good...may look even better with more room to maneuver and paired with the right partner. I'm not sure if P.K. is the right match there. I have him paired with Tavev.

NYI, if they even make the post season, will make a quick exit and J.T. will be the #1 center. And I hope Giroux goes as well, he can slot in with J.T. on the right side or play 2nd center, moving wunderkind 3rd center. Either way I expect a dominant Sidney Crosby-esque like performance from McDavid just like Sid in his rookie year, '06 Riga, Latvia.

If McDavid is pushed to the third line centre spot, Canada must be getting a lot of people to accept invitations. If Canada does get a good assortment of forwards, it's unlikely that McDavid will get the opportunity that Crosby had leading the pretty sad 2006 edition of the Canadian team. As for Tavares, right now the Islanders would play Florida in the first round, and that could easily go either way. I do assume that Colorado will be eliminated easily in the first round if they do make the playoffs, which bolsters this team. Same for Philadelphia.

Hall Giroux MacKinnon
O'Reilly McDavid Eberle
Duchene Monahan Stone
(Playoff elimination) Couturier Reinhart

Tanev Subban
Murray Barrie

Mason

That's my most optimistic scenario. If Giroux refuses and the playoff eliminations don't yield Tavares, Duchene moves to centre. Team has speed and defensive responsibility. Goaltending isn't great, but that isn't necessary at this level.

I don't think so. I'm taking the Panthers to make short work of the Islanders. but if I'm wrong, then I'd be glad to take Ekblad for a shot a repeat gold medal performance.

Never really had much use for Huberdeau, but Reilly Smith might be a decent 3rd line RW who can score.

Florida and NY Islanders playing each other would give us almost 100% certainity of getting either Tavares or Ekblad, that would be good.
Also, if STL and SJO play together, it could very well give us one of Schwartz/Couture.

Also I believe Dubnyk could go (he represented Canada in both 2012 and 2013), which would give us a solid starter.

I doubt Couture would go. He hasn't played for Canada internationally since he was 17, despite some opportunities. He even went home early to avoid playing in the Spengler during the lockout. San Jose could yield Burns or Vlasic though.

That's interesting, I've never heard that one before. I wouldn't put it past him, but are you just speculating that was his reason or has that been floated out there by people who would know?

Couture is not patriotic?)
Playing for the national team is a great honor for a young player

He was in Europe at the time, and TSN was speculating on who would play the Spengler because it was during the lockout and there was nothing else to discuss. Giroux was injured in Europe so he didn't play, Benn went home (or was injured, I can't remember) and Couture just returned home.

I have no idea if he's patriotic. He's had chances to play for Canada and refused though, last year being the most egregious instance.

Do you really think we could get a Top 4 at this event of Vlasic Burns Gio and Brodie? That's approaching A team levels right there. with Reilly and Barrie as the 3rd pairing. I can live with that.

On the good news front, Brodie is back in action and Monahan played another big game.

Vlasic is already locked into the World Cup roster, so he has a short summer upcoming. He's been a good soldier in the past, but he has a very easy out. Burns is still a bubble player for that tournament, but he's enthusiastically represented Canada in the past and he raved about his experience last year. I think he is realistic if San Jose is eliminated early.

Mostly unrelated, but it would have been great to see Burns at the 2005 World Juniors. He was still a forward then, so it would have been interesting to see where he would line up. That team, plus the missing Burns and Horton, would have been incredibly physically imposing.

ya, I remember it well. I was in Helsinki for the '04 tournament when he was still a forward. Not sure why Minni was so opposed to releasing him for the '05 tournament. You know, for all this nonsense people get on about exempting junior age players from the CHL so that they can play in the AHL at 18/19, I don't like the idea, I'd rather they remain in junior, but I'd consider limited exceptions if every junior age player in the AHL has to be released for the Christmas tournament... but our opponents may not like that so much.

Why were Burns and Horton absent in 2005?

You don't want Ben Scrivens against team Finland and Russia.

Burns was in the AHL, Stars, sorry, meant Wild. I'm old school. Wild didn't release. He played with the Wild after he was drafted, then assigned to the AHL during the lockout. Horton, can't remember if was injured or just not a Sutter choice.

In the case of Burns, I remember it being stated at the time that Minnesota was in the process of converting Burns from forward to defenceman, and they didn't want him undoing that progress by going to the World Juniors and either playing forward or at least not focusing on learning how to play as a defenceman against men. Someone on TSN said that.

Florida just kept Horton out of of the camp and said that they might release him for the tournament, and I don't remember how Hockey Canada responded to that. Horton then got injured while he should have been at WJC camp.

I was under the impression that Duchene was hurt, is this not the case anymore? I doubt he risks going to the WHC if he's not even able to play during a playoff push. Unless he's just day to day and I'm out to lunch.

He's listed as day to day. The tournament is in early May, so I assume he will be healthy. Of course, if Colorado makes the playoffs and Duchene doesn't play then there is no way he can go over to the IIHF tournament.

you didn't happen to catch any part of the Philly NYI game last night? I repeat, if NYI make the POs, with the way they are playing, JT will be available rather quickly...and he's looking in desperate need of a little McDavid magic on his line to get him going. At this point, I'm hoping the Islanders drop out of the Top 8, Tavares can return home for 2 weeks to rest and then head off to Europe for a 2-day training camp 1 pretournament game and then get after it. My ideal scenario, Isles miss out and Philly loses in the 1st. rd. and Tavares and Giroux head off to Europe together, Captain and Assistant Captain.

Tavares needs Capuano gone. Playing in a decent system at the WC would be good for him, most likely.
