I believe this year's defence will be something special. If healthy, Giordano-Brodie and Subban are locks in my mind. That alone would be incredible. There is no way any of them turns down an invitation with them seemingly battling for a World Cup spot. And there is definitely a chance of having Barrie, Myers, Rielly, or Murray.

No need for Myers really. I would like to see Tanev with the other names you mentioned. That's a great defence for a tournament of this level.

O'Reilly Couturier Stone. Have fun. Could possibly happen if Couturier is healthy.
:cry:Stoner is a few months too old for this squad ,but yes that would have just been amazing to watch .Wondering if they would start to steal pucks from each other....

This thread is about World Hockey Championships which will be held in May (St. Petersburg and Moscow), not about World Cup.

Canada with a spectacular team last year. Will be fun to follow them this year as well. Haven't been a huge fan of Team Canada in years past, to say the least, but with the teams they have been sending in later years, It's starting to wash away the years of goon hockey I so despise.

Myers was awful at the World Championships 2014:)

I don't really remember much from that tournament, but I don't know about awful, he just made a mistake that cost us the quarter-final game. Well.

But he's very good right now. I like him and think he would be benefit to the team imo. :)

:D

we could really name these threads as 'WorldChampionships' not WC...

I could see Giroux taking a year off to rest.

Couturier would probably be more likely to go since he missed 18 games this season and should be fresher.

If Philadelphia misses the playoffs, Giroux is the forward whose response is the most interesting. Does he think he's already paid his dues (rightfully)? Is he mad about not being named to the initial Canadian O23 World Cup roster? Does he want to prove them wrong and make that roster? Perhaps Hockey Canada has told some guys, like a Giroux, that they aren't in the 16 but are already on the team. Many variables.

Probably no chance of seeing Spezza, Thornton or Couture at this tournament. We can also expect to see Eberle there.

Price might go to get some games in if he doesn't get any, or only a few with the habs.

Interesting. Heard Treliving before, so that's not a surprise. I suppose McPhee wants to keep his name out there for GM jobs. Treliving should be able to deliver Calgary's players, which is good. I don't know what benefit McPhee's connections with the Islanders and Capitals will bring.

McPhee was also an Assistant General Manager for last years team, so I guess it made sense to bring him back again this year.

Roster may have taken a bit of a hit last night with both Philly and the Avs now in playoff position. Although both teams look to be 1st rd. fodder, the POs are a strange animal and who knows what happens...

but on a positive note, Monahan in Calgary is a future captain and heartbeat of that team. I'd look to him to play a key role as 2nd center with McDavid at LW. Ideally I'd prefer him as a 3rd center, as that would mean an exceptionally strong team, but that may be too optimistic at this point.
