McKenzie says that no coaches participating at the WC will be available for Canada for World Championships (so no Babcock, McLellan, Maurice), but that it doesn't extend to players.

what's Maurice's involvement, the kiddie squad?

perhaps we'll see somebody like Hartley? or maybe Crawford since he's already in Europe.

Maurice is with the Euro Leftovers. I would guess that Bill Peters will be selected as coach. He's a Babcock guy, he's apparently doing a good job with Carolina and he's part of the Canada O24 coaching staff.

In roster players in Canada will be older than 24 years old?!!!
Or players will be under 24 years?

Oh no! that means more of the Jeff Skinner European Road Show Ice Capades and Center Ice pirouettes. Maybe he'll do us all a favor and deem the WHC beneath him...I mean now that he's a seasoned vet with 5 + years of experience. I'm kidding of course. he's putting in a decent year. just never really impressed me much in his 3 attempts. a few good games, but mostly forgettable.

Canada will not use any coaches or management that are associated with the Young Gunz or the Euro Leftovers. They will use eligible players though. Health and playoff permitting there is little doubt that McDavid/Monahan/MacKinnon will be there, for instance.

Probably yes. I've liked Skinner in some of his WHC performances, and he is a good enough goal scorer to make the roster. A good thing is that if Treliving is the GM, as TSN suggested, we can probably expect Brodie and Giordano. Canada usually gets good forwards, but getting an elite defensive pairing is extremely rare.

If Subban, and the Calgary pairing does in fact go, it makes this team an instant gold medal threat. Obviously you'll need a strong coaching staff, but 3 really good defensemen is a solid foundation. Hopefully they can get someone like Barrie as well.

How has Methot looked of late? He was awesome at this tournament last time he went before he got suspended, which ultimately cost us an early exit.

Not to be picky, but I remember only 1 good game in Helsinki against the Finns and a couple of good ones in his rookie year, beyond that he's disappointed...but to be fair, could be a product of the teams more than anything else. Give him a shot of Connor McDavid as his center and he could do some damage on LW.

Even last year the group of defencemen wasn't overly strong. This year has the potential to be better on that end. Add Barrie if Colorado is out, one or possibly both of Rielly/Murray, a Methot type to hold down the fort and kill penalties and that's very strong for this level.

Nothing is certain yet, but could the fact of no canadian NHL team making the playoffs influence the general interest in Team Canada at the World Championships?

If we get some A listers show up this year like last and the team plays well, just like last year, then that will suck big time for the boys at Sportsnet and their playoff ratings. a Ratings bonanza for our friends at TSN...you know, where hockey lives.

Given the reputation of the tournament and the time when the games will be played, I really doubt that there will be a noteworthy audience compared to that for playoff hockey. TSN can show the replays in primetime, but replays suck sinc everyone knows the result.

I believe the GMG last year had a peak and higher average rating than most PO games. This year if the team is good, Canadians may tune in sooner than just the GMG.

Fair, but that was on the weekend. Most games take place during work hours. It would be good if there were more viewers though.

They may indeed, the NHL entertainment product is as bad as it has ever been.

Pretty boring hockey to watch most games these days IMO.

Lets hope PK is alright after that collision last night, not only because I'm a big fan of his on and off the ice, but I'd love to see him wearing a Team Canada jersey come May.

I would be surprised to see him play the tournament, even if he returns to play for Montreal soon. One possible incentive could be the World Cup though, depending on his perspective, as he might want to have a positive showing before the team is picked.

Given his attitude towards stuff like this I would be shocked if he didn't play.

It would great to see him suit up in Piter/Moskva, but to be honest, I'm more concerned with getting Gio and Brodie there. Brodie is currently nursing some injuries.

Ahhh, never heard that. Best chance to get them is to have Calgary's GM running the team.

Okay, I've officially forgiven Scheifele for the 2013 Ufa tournament, he can play for the WHC team in May if he's up for it and healthy. Jenner still has a ways to go though.

Is Giordano not the favourite left hand defenseman for the World Cup? I don't know what that would mean in terms of him suiting up for the World Championships, but IMO a Giordano-Pietrangelo paring is our best 3rd denfensive paring assuming Babcock wants Vlasic-Doughty again, and Giordano is hands down next in line after Vlasic and Kieth for lefties, no?

Would he go to both tournaments?

If he wants to go to the September tournament, he has no business turning down an invitation to the spring tournament. He isn't a lock for the Canadian over 24 team.

I believe this year's defence will be something special. If healthy, Giordano-Brodie and Subban are locks in my mind. That alone would be incredible. There is no way any of them turns down an invitation with them seemingly battling for a World Cup spot. And there is definitely a chance of having Barrie, Myers, Rielly, or Murray.
