Maybe it’s just me, but Dobes inspires little confidence when I watch him play. He’s unorthodox, he’s clumsy and is flopping around in the crease, at times he even has his back to the play, he has trouble locating and tracking the puck in close and he can’t catch a puck worth a damn.

Fowler can’t get here fast enough.
Wow….pretty harsh comments for a kid who has done everything plus in his 10 or so games. I recall one bad night, but what goalie hasn’t?

.909 save %……6-2-1 record. Not bad for a “back up” who has never played in the NHL. I see him only getting better and improving on his technique.

Let’s not get too hung up on bottom line player contracts. This guy (and likely his brother in arms Demidov) are going to need big long term deals:

Pay for elite talent, be creative with bottom line players.

Put this guy on a top 5 team and he is a ppg.

I thought the team played a strong road game. I particularly thought that Matheson had a very effective game as he flashed his superior mobility, was very steady in his defensive zone and, except for two icings late in the game, made smart plays with the puck. To me, the turning point in the game were the multiple 4 on 4 situations when MSL had both Matheson and Hutson on the ice at the same time. Those two mobile and highly skilled defencemen gave Montreal a huge edge as the Canadiens were able to control the puck for extended periods and the Sabres had no answer. It was impressive to watch .
The numbers don't lie. Montreal is a very impressive open ice team I think our 3v3 and our 4v4 numbers prove that point. Arber always take someone to the box with you. :naughty:

best game for him in a long time.

I still think he can handle the puck like a grenade sometimes, but he's putting together some very solid possession #s 👀

People should remember that when they get that seemingly irresistible urge to see Matheson get traded. His speed/mobility gives us a huge advantage over many teams in open ice game situations. As I have been 'preaching' on this board for now almost a quarter of a century: you trade away Matheson's type of skating at your team's great peril.

exactly, and as Reinbacher joins the fold, Matheson is just going to get less and less TOI. He's not going to be exposed like he was playing 26mins a night

100 pct agree , in fact looking back C when he plays lowish minutes he looks great .
Thats the problem of weaker teams , many good players have to play out of their comfort zone and thus get exposed .
Matheson is a great d to have .
He just ain’t a 1st pairing d with first pairing minutes
