I don't think that's true RIAL. We hear players all the time say they prefer to play in the East becasue of the easier travel. Especially regarding the NYC trips.

We also hear players talk about how much worse the travel is for the Avs.

We've even seen players leave the Avs because of this. Barnaby I remember for sure. He specifically cited travel as the reason he didn't re-sign when the Avs pursued him. I feel like there were others as well.

There's 28 other teams in the NHL besides Florida, Tampa, LA, and Anaheim, that don't have palm trees and beaches.

I hear St. Louis is breathtaking... Detoilet as well. Don't forget about Buffalo....

You guys are making it sound like I said Denver is the worst location in the NHL. I never said that. There's absolutely worse.

No I know you didn't say that or mean to imply it.

But the context of this is what makes players not want to play in Denver. If it's a wash with half the league, and they're better than some, then it doesn't matter much right? Then it's mostly about the team.

The players, the coach, how successful they migth be, the culture, how the organization takes care of it's players. Avs have a leg up on most, if not all the other teams they're a wash with for local entertainment.

I really think the travel time is a bigger issue for players, but I'm just speculating. I could be wrong.

I think players will happily put up with travel if other things come with it.

Look at Edmonton and how they've been able to attract free agents since McDavid arrived, which coincided with the new arena being finalized and downtown revitalized completely along with the owner spending big bucks on amenities. Edmonton is a shit hole, but they attract players somehow.

Seems like if the Avs had a legit practice arena and an ownership group willing to spend on families/amenities they would attract more players.

I wish the NHLPA did an annual survey like the NFLPA does where the players rank organizations based on coaching, management, amenities, ownership, how families are treated, food, etc. I bet the Avs would finish bottom five.

Yeah I think Edmonton is the chance to play with the best player in the world, one of the best of all time in McDavid, and a chance at a Cup. Don't think they drew that well before McDavid when they sucked did they?

LA and Anaheim don't seem to draw in that many players compared to Florida or Tampa either. They have nice beaches, girls, and plenty of entertainment options.

Difference seems like it's the state tax and competitiveness of the teams.

Also there's plenty of time for partying or entertainment in bigger cities on road trips, if younger players want that. I'm sure it matters to some when considering Denver, but I'm not sure how many.

Also usually the guys with a choice of whether to go to Denver or not, are older, not younger players under contract with no say in the matter.

I could be wrong but colorado to me is a more go out and do things, activities. Hiking. Skiing, camping, bike trails, public parks, nature.

These athletes are training hard all the time. Playing in grueling games, hitting the gym after. On the Days off you think they wanna go on a f***ing hike?

Makes sense that lots of players come here to retire, cause now they can actually enjoy that stuff.

Without getting overly political ... Denver is a f***ing shit hole of a city that has been run into the ground. It used to be great here, but not any more. Anyone who has been in the downtown area in the last 5 years can attest to the mess of shit, it's not a place most people with common sense want to be. I personally refuse to even remotely come close to going down there. I used to go games regularly. Now I'd rather not.

I really can't blame players for not wanting my to be there either. Outside that, travel sucks, taxes suck, facilities suck. It's not hard to see why players don't want to be here.

We are just lucky we drafted 29 and 8. If not we'd be a a f***ing shit show team that can't remotely get players to come to the city.

Lifestyle, taxes, chance to win, ice time, depth charts, travel time, facilities, quality of life. I think all this stuff plays into it.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in other big cities. I actually like Denver. I think Denver is a lot like how Seattle used to be in the late 90s before everybody moved here and ruined it. If it weren’t for the snow and cost of living to wages ratio, I’d probably live there.

He's still butthurt we didn't draft him
Nah, if it's a list of 2 teams and both those teams are successful teams in warm weather cities with things to do and no state income tax, it's pretty obvious to me that Jones is taking advantage of his no trade clause to dictate a desirable location

There's also roles. He knows with certainty he is behind Makar here and he may not like that.

In Florida, he is their clear-cut #1 RHD even if Ekblad is there, and will be even more if Ekblad leaves this offseason

Speaking of holes. Holy pot holes Batman. I think this is the worse its ever been.

Anyways, yah the Oilers still attract UFAs mainly because of Connie and Leon but also because they dont practice at Coronation Arena like the Avs do.

Avs will be getting a new practice facility soon. They haven't announced when, but I have a feeing that won't change much in terms of players wanting to play in Denver.

I'm guessing it's the travel time. It's a lot more than most teams. Everywhere is a long trip and a late night arrival back home.

I'm not sure that's the reason for Seth though. I think he might still hold a grudge for the Avs not picking him.
Where did it ssy the Avs were even interested. I don't think they were at all and rightfully so.
