We would be very happy with Nelson as 2C for a stretch run.

6’4”, has 35 goals a season the past 3 years, and is a great skater who is at the top of the league in those bursts off the rush that we love to use in Bednar’s system.

We probably won’t be able to extend him as he will want a raise on his current $6m and at 33 years old, it’s a contract that will likely age badly.

He’s also heavily rumoured to sign with Minnesota in the summer or go back to Long Island.

Nonetheless, for a rental and playoff run, he’d obviously be a huge improvement on Mitts and give us a strong 2nd line presence.

Agreed. What I’m about to say is going to sound crazy coming from me as I ***** about Mittelstadt every day but a Nelson deal is one where I’d prefer to also hang onto 37. I doubt the Islanders want him anyways.

Would Colton and a 1st get it done? Roll MacKinnon, Nelson, Mittelstadt, and Drury down the middle.

Genuine question here because I don't live there but what is so bad about Denver? NBA stars like Jokic, Murray, Gordon, Westbrook, etc sure don't mind the city. Why do NHLers hate Denver?

Does it have to do with the actual city, or does it have to do with the arena/amenities/ownership being cheap AF and outdated?

We've heard so many retired NHLers move to Denver and call it home later in life. Peyton freaking Manning loves the city.

The fact that NHLers don't want anything to do with this place is baffling to me unless there's more to it and they hear through the grapevine that the practice arena is the worst in professional hockey, Ball Arena is outdated, and ownership skimps on amenities.

I'm guessing it's the travel time. It's a lot more than most teams. Everywhere is a long trip and a late night arrival back home.

I'm not sure that's the reason for Seth though. I think he might still hold a grudge for the Avs not picking him.

Don't the Panthers have pretty bad travel times, too? They're so far southeast.

Then again, if the travel times are similar I understand choosing sunny Florida over Colorado but the fact that so many NHLers seem to say no to playing in Denver is truly shocking to me. You'd think we were Columbus or Buffalo.

I don’t want to offend the many folks here from Denver, but here’s the honest truth…

As somebody who doesn’t live there but has visited over 20 times, I think it’s one of the most boring “big cities” there is.

The streets are dead. There’s no excitement. The bars suck. The events suck. It’s old people wearing cowboy hats or young hipsters with blue hair.

Somehow, despite being a dead city, the prices are brutal for everything. It’s all overpriced.

People want to joke about Canada, but I live outside of Toronto and by God you can’t even compare the two. Toronto is like New York, Paris, and Rome all mixed together compared to Denver.

Sorry if that offended anybody, but Denver would absolutely suck for a multimillionaire athlete in their 20s or 30s.

That seems understandable. I LOVE visiting Toronto, I'm going to be headed to Mississauga for May long weekend for a hockey tournament and Toronto is on the bucket list to head back to because like you said, it's got everything.

Seems like one of those things where ownership - if they even gave a f*** which I don't think they do - should step in and make the organization as appealing as possible to make up for what the city lacks.

The difference is when the Panthers go on an in conference road trip, they can hit all of the Rangers, Isles, Devils, and Flyers on the same trip with very little extra travel.

Plus CBJ, Detroit, Toronto, and Montreal aren't too far off either.

The Avs don't have that luxury outside of LA and Anaheim. Maybe Vancouver and Calgary. Everyone else is a long flight due to the proximity of Denver to everywhere else.

Plus it's the time zone changes. Nobody else except Utah and Calgary has the same time zone as the Avs.

Yeah, I live pretty much on the Mississauga/Oakville border. Toronto is 20 minutes away without traffic taking the QEW/Gardiner. Big city nice and close.

Enjoy your visit.

Sorry dude, the travel has nothing to do with it.

The difference is Florida has palm trees and girls in bikinis on the beaches. Denver... doesn't.

It doesn't matter if this lifestyle doesn't appeal to you, me, or anybody here. It 100% does to professional athletes.

I think Denver is pretty awesome and there's plenty to do. But if you're a millionaire mid 20 year old pro athlete who can't really do much of what Colorado is actually known for... Denver would suck.

Yeah, but that's not much different than some other cities in the NHL. Denver is better in that regard than Raleigh, Columbus, or Pittsburgh.

San Jose is pretty boring though it's an hour drive from SF. Same with Long Island and New Jersey to NYC.

Minny isn't that much better if at all. Same with Salt Lake City and Seattle. Perhaps Calgary too. Not sure on Ottawa. Edmonton migth have better bars, not sure, but does that make it a better place to live? Dallas probably depends on the person, but I'm not sure it's objectively better than Denver.

A lot of players are looking to raise families somewhere too. Denver is appealing for that.

I don't think that's true RIAL. We hear players all the time say they prefer to play in the East becasue of the easier travel. Especially regarding the NYC trips.

We also hear players talk about how much worse the travel is for the Avs.

We've even seen players leave the Avs because of this. Barnaby I remember for sure. He specifically cited travel as the reason he didn't re-sign when the Avs pursued him. I feel like there were others as well.

There's 28 other teams in the NHL besides Florida, Tampa, LA, and Anaheim, that don't have palm trees and beaches.

I hear St. Louis is breathtaking... Detoilet as well. Don't forget about Buffalo....
