WC: Team Canada 2025

I think Canada can find 8 Dmen better than him quite easily.

Sure there are other RD I would prefer as well, but availabilty and contractual status are always sticklers...and since players are not tripping over themselves to play in this thing, there are not a whole lot of other options on RD. and I do like somewhat of a reasonable balanse LD/RD.

Not much change in the roster projections, but with Dylan Guenther out (IR) indefinitely. Not season-ending...so there's hope he's back in time...

Still pegging my hopes on LA and Columbus being opening rd. losers.

C BEDARD
N SUZUKI
A LAFRENIERE
D HOLLOWAY
B HORVAT
M BARZAL
K JOHNSON
M CELEBRINI
Q BYFIELD
C SILLINGER
A FANTILLI
D COZENS

J NEIGHBOURS B HAYTON

V DUNN
B MONTOUR
O POWER
N DOBSON
B BYRAM
B CLARKE
T CHABOT / O ZELLWEGER

D KUEMPER
C TALBOT
C INGRAM
I would love to see that team.

I would as well. 1 point though. Noah Dobson slipped through my UFA/RFA filter check. He's on an expiring contract and thus only about a 2% chance of even entertaining the idea of tripping to Europe in May.
Might bump it up a little bit as he might see the Olympics a few months ahead as a carrot to chase. Realistically we will see some veterans there, which is fine, but I really hope that the team goes young, barring a bunch of Olympic level favourites deciding to go. The young option, with some veterans thrown in, is more realistic.

Excellent, Canada should not have sent him home pre-tournament last year.

Since Barzal is now on LTIR Celebrini may have to be elevated to 2nd, center spot and counted on to do some heavy lifting. In that case, it would be wise to also extend an invite to a SJ linemate for a degree of built in chemisty. Toffoli. (if not trade at the deadline to a PO team)

I want him in a prominent spot. I agree that it would be good to insulate him (and hopefully Bedard) with at least one solid veteran on their lines.

You must be new here:) 13th forward, needs to watch and learn whilst superstars like Michael Bunting and Jack McBain show him how to play the game at this level
I'm still somewhat annoyed that he and Fantilli were the ones sent back last year. At least that team was fairly solid for this level. With the Olympics coming up I expect a stronger than usual edition of Canada, but I still want Bedard and Celebrini in the top six, both on the wing but on separate lines in an ideal world.

Reading in the Athletic this morning that Suzuki was miffed about not being named to the 4-Nations team, and I'm mindful that he turned down a request to go to worlds last year. Surely he has to understand that Hockey Canada values some loyalty and saying no to going to worlds could be the difference if he's on the bubble.

I'd like to read that article. I assume Basu wrote it though, and I saw him on TSN already hitting the points that:

1. Suzuki was upset about not being on the four nations team.
2. Yeah, it likely hurt his chances that he did not go to the iihh world championship last year.

Ultimately at the best on best level he is far from a lock. He is realistically a contender to be fourth line centre and nothing more, and almost all of the top Canadian players make a token appearance internationally once or twice. He's won nothing in the NHL, nothing of note internationally, and he is not good enough to be a lock for the team. Show up at the world championship and have a big tournament, it's that simple.

Let's say Montreal doesn't make the playoffs - Suzuki should call Hockey Canada himself and ask for the chance to be on the team centering Bedard (or something like that).

Yup, Arpon's writing. And agreed that Suzuki is a bubble boy at this point. Although we should never say that the Habs don't make the playoffs. Never, never say that.

I remember for sure that Suzuki said last year that he would come to the next World Championships
And yet he declined when actually asked. It's pretty much a dead horse at this point, but the guy played 82 games in each of the last three seasons, missed the playoffs every time, and didn't show up. He's overdue. I think that Canada has realistic expectations for this tournament, basically show up once or twice in your career and we're all good, but it's hard to remember a more blatant case of someone not showing up in recent memory.

I hope he goes this year and has a great tournament. If he refuses again well, hockey in Canada will survive.

I have no doubt that he will accept the invitation, he needs to prove that he is worthy of representing Canada at the Olympic Games. Last year, he said he was ready to come to the 2025 World Championships. Let's see if he can keep his promises.

i know Suzuki proposed to his wife last summer im not sure if thats the reason he had to decline the invite but i do agree that he needs to answer the call this year if he wants a chance to make the real team in the future

And for the people saying he never won anything while true our team is really bad and thats not on him but when we made the finals a few years ago he was by far our best player and our #1 C at a very young age even Tampa's coach was very impressed with him i think Nick is a gamer and steps up when it matters the most

Nows the time to play in these kinds of things too, with his team still in a rebuild. Toews for example fulfilled his commitments in 2007 and 2008, before he was even in the NHL and after his rookie year when the Hawks were still a bad team.
