Agreed. Our forwards are outstanding for this tournament. In my view, they are by far the deepest and best group at this tournament.

I'm excited to see how Laine keeps up with them. You've got to think 97 and those other guys have heard the hype and chatter.

I know one thing, they have to get on the kid and not just let him set up shop with no-one within a mile of him to unleash that bomb of his like most everyone else has.

We need to make life a little more miserable for him.

Lots of the Canadian players have experience on how to cover the likes of Stamkos and Ovechkin.

Yup, try and get in his head a bit too like the Americans did.

I think Marchand will matchup with him. We definitely need to play disciplined and keep the Finns off the PP as well. His shot is lethal, we'll need to play focused and hard.

Best way to avoid taking penalties? Have the puck all of the time and dominate rolling 4 lines. Wave after wave of pressure on the Finnish D.

Yeah, I hope we needle the kid a little bit, get in his head and frustrate him, bring him back to earth on playing with the big boys a bit. I think the Americans did that pretty well and hopefully we will too.

On the PP the guy is real dangerous.

Dreger said on TSN today that it is "likely" that Hockey Canada would reach out to Burns if San Jose loses game seven. They also might reach out to Ellis if Nashville is the losing team apparently. I'm a bit skeptical though... Dreger isn't the most reliable, and history says that Hockey Canada simply doesn't do that. Either player would be helpful, as Burns is elite and Ellis could simply take all of Dumba's minutes, but Hockey Canada isn't going to go all out for the World Championships.

I'd give Dreger the benefit of the doubt on this one. The fact that he's traveling with the team and surrounded by Hockey Canada personnel leads me to believe that he's simply relaying what has been floating around their circles. Beyond these circumstances, Dreger and Bobby Mac are usually spot-on regarding any Hockey Canada information due to TSN's longstanding partnership.

Not seen any Canada games so far.....is this team just like last year playing without any hitting. just stick on stick? Not very canadien.

Mark Scheifele sick, stomach flu, but I'm guessing...I probably should have told him not to eat at Subway. I remember a very unfortunate incident in St. Petersburg where I had a sandwich and it got real messy in a hurry. Set me back a few days.

Marchand game time decision.

I will believe him if he says that something actually happened, for the reason you've listed. When it gets into the realm of what is "likely" though it starts to sound a lot like his opinion, and then I become skeptical.

Still no defense additions to Team Canada? In this case, my Canadian friends, expect the usual qf elimination of your team

**** Hockey Canada...

Haha, you should rather worry about your own team. Canada ia steamrolling opponents and at least on paper and so far on this tournament is much better than Russia. QF elimination is more likely for Russia than for Canada. :)

True, but most of the experienced Canadian defencemen are not in Russia. I doubt that Laine in particular will be a huge issue though.

The guy covering the Ovechkin, Stamkos, Laine spot is not the defenseman, but the right-side forward PKer. Canada has elite PK forwards, especially Marchand and O'Reilly. I trust them in that situation.

It's single elimination so anything is possible.

Canada looks by far the best. Only weakpoint is defense.

Coaches like the Ceci-Murray pairing but aren't sure what to do outside of that.

They seem to be trying people out with Reilly. A few times against Belarus they seemed to split up Ceci-Murray at ES to play with different guys.
It will likely be Reilly-Tanev like the US game if they don't see anything else.

We're still the favorites. The defense is the obvious weakspot atm. And by weakspot - it's still better than any other nation.

The PK is not an issue at all.

It would be funny if Canada and Russia were both eliminated in the QF. I'd suspect FIN-SWE final.

Canada will more than likely beat Finland and play Switzerland in the qf, while Russia will most likely play US.

I think Russia needs to worry about losing in the qf, not Canada

In a one game elimination, everyone needs to worry about every game.

McDavid better come away with the hat-trick today or otherwise I'm going to have to start being critical of these guys. hahahaha

Scheifele is out. more minutes for Domi? I wouldn't mind seeing if Domi McDavid Reinhart would work. The rookie line.

Best Jet LW shot since Robert Marvin.

IMO you shouldn't be so incompetent as to be almost laughable, attaching importance to round robin games. E.g. a competitive Team Canada that many spoke of as future World champions in 2013 went down in the QF to Sweden, reinforced a coupla days earlier by the Sedin brothers, LOST THE QF because of Alex Edler's knee-on-knee against Canada captain, Eric Staal.

You should worry about Russia. It would shame the country for you to lose to American students again :).

Canada will be just fine.

I do not see anything shameful if Russia loses US.
American Hockey stronger with every year.
