Don't see how Finland isn't considered the favorite going into their game with Canada.

1.Tournaments in Europe
2,Big ice
3.More team prep time
4.Home crowd fan advantage
5. Comparable on ice talent

Way more things in their favor.

Canada should be viewed as the at least slight underdog here.

Sizable talent advantage for Canada. Way better depth. I also don't see what differentiates your first advantage from the three that follow it.

There probably isn't anything that differentiates it.

But I am going with the logic that European fans usually use when a tournament is held in North America.

They usually say, and this is repeated time and time again that 1.tournament in NA is an advantage for NA teams
2. small ice game favors NA teams
3. Home crowd favors NA teams

Usually NHL refs is added to the list also but no need to go into that.

So while I agree with you that what I listed is really not much if any advantage at all in anyway and doesn't really differentiate, I figure if they are always SEEN as advantages when the reverse happens, I guess they should be seen as advantages here right?

I don't believe in it, but many seem to.

Advantage finland right?

The ice size is a small advantage to Finland. The crowd doesn't matter. These guys are professionals who have played hundreds of games on hostile arenas. Another slight advantage for Finland would be IIHF refs. Canada's talent advantage is more significant than anything Finland has going for it.

100% agreed.

I was just putting a reverse rationale out there for considering Finland the faves going in.

It's endlessly used the other way, I just figured i'd turn the tables with the accepted logic from fans on that side of the ocean.

When has truth ever gotten in the way of a good excuse?

Just a little good natured dig to set the stage for the game that's all. Gotta buildup the hype for this game.

Plus the Finns like playing the part of underdog. I'm not looking past them at all, can't wait.

Wave after wave of attack, their D won't know what hit them.

Every team is an underdog against Canada. Their PP is finally clicking and their goalie tandem has been solid.

McDavid took down a tweet of him and Duchene out drinking after the game yesterday. He's not a full blown Crosby yet, but working on it perhaps.

Looks like the partying is not out of their system...

Why do these players feel the need to share that experience on social media...ya, sure, it's great to get an all expense paid spring party vacation...sign me up...

In the junior tournament the use of social media is banned by Hockey Canada, I suggest at least that somebody at Hockey Canada remind these guys that partying pics are not material for your tweeter or instagram accounts. Go to a museum instead and tweet your brains out, but keep the other **** to yourself.

Jesus Christ. This is exactly why he took it down.

How is it any of your/our business what he does and how he conducts himself on social media as long as he's playing well and not hurting anyone?

These endless discussions and dissections of how the players spend their free time are embarrassing.

For the same reason my opinion on the proper use of social media in these situations is none of your business until I make a public post about it and then it becomes your business, open for comment. That is what social media is…or you haven’t figured that part out yet?

He can go out and relax and enjoy his free time however he wants…but not everything has to be “shared†with the public… Use a little discretion in these situations is my only request.

and that's what Hockey Canada should be instructing them to do... once the tournament is over and he is officially on his own time, he can drink til the cows come home and tweet about until he's blue in the face. I don't care.

I mostly found it funny that he promptly deleted it. Someone said something to him very quickly it seems.

Not so, and this annoyed me last year. The 2015 team banned social media. Then in the interviews for 2016, I specifically remember Marner commenting on that but saying that they felt that Instagram was important as a window into their lives (something to that effect), so they would stop using Twitter but continue using Instagram. They can choose to do what they want, but I didn't like them deciding to change what had worked for the previous team (for such a stupid reason) even if it was a minor thing.

McDavid was tweeting alot due to the EA cover vote contest.

McDavid had/has somebody tweeting on his behalf for that EA cover thing. I noticed a tweet on that subject during a game...in fact I think McDavid had just finished a shift when the tweet was made.

Obviously the juniors are not going to be tweeting/instagramming pics from the bar enjoying tequila body shots or other adult beverages... and you're right, twitter was banned but not instagram. I wouldn't ban any of it, but I would be instructing/advising players what is and isn't appropriate while tournament play is ongoing. and that goes from U17 right up to the pros. If you are out on a walking tour of St. Petersburg and want to tweet pics of it = acceptable. Sitting in a bar making goofy faces with your linemate after downing 4 Moscow Mules (I know that's Duchene's favorite cocktail) = isn't appropriate. or if you choose to make it public on social media, then be prepared to live with the reaction.

BTW. I didn't see the tweet. So, I have no idea what sort of goofy faces they were making or what alcoholic beverages they were drinking.

So where is Tavares?

media speculation. I don't think Hockey Canada will add anybody...

but with that same media speculation re: Tavares/Hamonic, they also said Hockey Canada will wait until all 2nd rd. series are decided before making a decision on additions.

Oh, okay, thanks. I thought that he's already on his way to St. Petersburg. :naughty:

I have feeling that Canada will react with adding someone when they see Russia gunning for it, or maybe I just want to think that...

I wouldn't impose the ban on the players, but the 2015 team self imposed the ban. The 2016 team decided to go a different route, which I found surprising given the results in 2015.

It was just a picture of them in a bar, probably around 2AM St. Petersburg time. McDavid, Duchene with drink in hand looking quite happy and some random guy that I don't know. Not a big deal. Just funny that he's already to the point of trying to avoid anything that could cause any kind of stir.

Not just you...but I want to think that as well...
if it's Tavares and Burns. Then of course I'm onboard with that and would pit that version of Team Canada against any team there...not that adding those 2 would guarantee anything, but I would like our chances for sure.

Maybe because he's a 19 year old kid out having fun with his buddies...?

You complain when players don't go, and then complain about them having a good time and enjoying the experience when they do go?
