Gord Miller's tweet saying:

"The former Soviet Union suffered staggering losses in WWII, more than 20 million people, mostly civilians, lost their lives."

It's Victory Day in Russia.

Ah, so not hockey related.

If anyone is interested in the Eastern Front war effort by the Soviets/Russians, there is a great podcast by Dan Carlin called Hardcore History, he did a 4 part series called Ghosts of the Osfront. Super, super interesting stuff. The Soviets were very, very tough people. Without them I think Germany would have defeated the Allies in continental Europe. Much of the credit of an allied victory goes to their efforts.

Now would Burns go if eliminated? He is a man that likes to travel.

Who knows. Hockey Canada, to the best of my knowledge, has never invited someone after the second round though.

Tavares declined invite?

Other than what one poster claimed, I haven't seen any evidence that Hockey Canada was even considering inviting anyone. The closest I saw was a mention days ago, possibly from Peters, that they would only considering adding a player if the leadership group signed off on it. Seems unlikely to me, but once again I doubt that Tavares has been asked.

The Hockey Insider Darren Dreger was the one who claimed the possible reaching out to Tavares. With Marchand's injury it may indeed be possible.

I guess, it can't be that serious a prospect if TSN hasn't even put any content on the internet about it. Indications are also that Marchand is not really injured, so if Tavares' offer is contingent on that then we might as well count him out.

That would be to bad, would have been nice if Tavares had been invited to come now that the Islanders are out of the playoffs.

Interesting news on the Hamonic trade request front, apparently now he no longer wishes to be traded from NYI. Maybe he wants to extend his season by a few weeks in a Team Canada sweater. I know I read a report yesterday where he said he was disappointed with the season ending and wanted to keep playing...yes yes. I know he meant the Stanley Cup...but playing is playing.

Cant see any team beating us this go around. Far too much depth and the other rosters are awful

Finns will be tough but I expect a win

all it takes it one extended party night out, followed by an off game and a bad penalty at the wrong time and you're in 4th place and not playing for a Gold medal. It's really quite easy to go off the rails.

Yep ,millionaire young adults .In a different city.....What could go wrong ???

They may indeed stand pat, but last night on TSN they said waiting until Rd 2 NHL to end. When's the roster add cut off for the tourny?

There's no cut-off as long as your slots aren't full. Last year Russia added Ovechkin for the semis and finals, and Czechs added Plekanec for one game (or two?). With the late start this year, IF they want to add someone from Rd 2 (which ends in a couple of days), and that someone is actually willing to come, they are going to make it. Probably by the weekend, before the preliminaries are even over.

there is no roster cut off date. just a number, teams have 25 roster spots available. 22 skaters 3 goaltenders you can add anytime up until you max out your roster.

I don't see Canada adding anyone else as it would mean relegating a current regular to the press box. That generally isn't how the team brass rolls.

Best not to mess with something that is (so far) working quiet well anyway.

K thx for the info. So 22 now? 3 spots available? Plus injury replacement or is that why 25 spots at anytime?

Posted this in game thread:

Ive been watching ALL Canada and Finland games. Barkov line has been best in tournament and not even close. It's not all Laine like the media wants everyone to believe. Trust me I know about Finland watching Barkov 82 plus games a year. If the Finland coach does not double shift his top two lines I think Canada wins. Finland fans don't like his line rolling. Koivu and Aho look like they are playing their best hockey too. Granlund is X factor vs Canada (if he can keep up his high level puck skills vs Canada, Finland has great shot to win this thing). Leo is just fun to watch (one arm sleeper hold on Larkin to hiding on bench late to scoring GWG on PP -- he's starting to play with Barkov and top guys on PP

no injury replacement.

3 roster spots available.

2 skaters and 1 goaltender.

I doubt they add. I'd like to see Tavares there. but it's a longshot at this point.

Yes the other rosters are weak, but looking at the Canadian roster it's easy to see bad penalties from the forwards and a very young group of defencemen getting rattled. Take a look at the 2013 Canadian roster compared to the 2013 Slovakian roster, or the 2012 Canadian roster compared to the 2012 Swedish roster. Canada has lost with huge talent disparities.
