WC: 2016 Team Canada Pt. II

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Not sure why Marchand would be there over Giroux and especially why Giordano is there over Brodie. I think most Flames fans have said Brodie is a better defenseman than Giordano.

Those two selections would be very disappointing. I don't think it would stop Canada from winning but it would definitely be a much weaker team with those two guys in ahead of Brodie and Giroux.
 
Just for the sake of interest, this is what I suspect a Russian style team Canada would look like this year... so basically, every healthy player says yes and plays. Not considering second round exits though.

That link was posted in the Canada v USA GDT by another poster. I translated what was written about the encounter and both Jack and I commented on it.

I don't think there are any Canadians who regularly follow the Team Russia fan page on vkontakte. Is there a Team Canada fan page on that site?
 
Hopefully the guys got the partying out of their system. Save the celebration for the end. There's still lots of areas to improve upon each day, things still haven't fully clicked.

With no significant game until the final preliminary round game against Finland, there will likely be many extracurricular activities.
 
2 and 0 so far, 12-2 scoring advantage to, things sure are clicking thus far. Belarus is our next opponent tomorrow.

Lots of room for improvement. Both opposition goaltenders let in some weak goals, and the defence has yet to feel noteworthy pressure.
 
Yeah, we won't know where we really are until that defense feels sustained pressure on it.

And they will surely get it against this Finnish team, that game will tell us a lot.

I took the under on the 20 pts thing, but I'm even a little disappointed in how he's playing. Showed a few flashes today but not enough for my liking. but of course when the coach believes Brassard is your best or better center, then not much you can do about that.

I don't mind that Brassard is on this team, but playing anywhere higher up than a 4th or 3rd line center is just nothing more than straight out of the Steve Spott school of coaching. If they don't pull it together, then they'll lose the final prelim game against the Finns and then lose the 1/4 final...and that's the ballgame.

but McDavid will always defer to and show too much respect to his teammates to really take over the reins of this team. His parents did too fine of a job in raising this kid.

All reasonable points.

I hope Mcdavid just starts to say "**** it, i'm taking over" he needs to have that mentality.

Waiting for the Finland game to see what this team is really made of.
 
2-0 and Canada hasn't embarrassed themselves so I say it looks promising. Good for Tanev getting man of match-- seems like the team is really relying on him to stabilize the back end.

Yeah looking like Laine has a better chance than McDavid at this point for 20. McDavid is deferring to his linemates too much and not driving the play like he does in Edmonton. He played well today but like I said it seems like he's more interested in passing and deferring to his teammates. He'll get going.

But if he hits like 4 points next game he'll be on pace, he just needs to take over a game. He needs to play more "selfish".

Considering that only a handful of players have hit 20 points since 1977, I dunno why so many were convinced that McDavid would be able to pull it off.

Because he has the ability to do it. But he's not driving the play like he usually does. He's over passing. He'll get it together and take over a game here soon.
 
If Canada doesn't win Gold, it's probably because they couldn't concentrate being in the country with the World's most beautiful Women.

At least this year they have a proper excuse if they lose.
